  1. You've heard the expression, "blowing smoke up someone's _______? When that smoke is expelled, it's "third hand smoke". It's really a misnomer, because hands have little to do with the process.
  2. I think that people should be able to do whatever they want on their own property. Parks and other public gathering places are good places for having restrictions on smoking. Especially the deadly "third hand smoke".
  3. Very astute observation! But she's intelligent, too! I admire her mind!! She does have a great profile, doesn't she?
  4. Very exciting! Congratulations, LGM - I wish you both much happiness!!
  5. I think that a person can be too house-proud. The giveaway is if house-cleaning is done, not because it's necessary or on the schedule, but for the sake of having something to do. It is the point where organizational skills meet compulsion.
  6. When I shop for a car, a computer or -- whatever -- I find salespeople everywhere not wanting to give me the bottom line cost. Here's what I get: "Well, our prices for that item START at ....." This means that they want to sell you a bunch of add-on stuff! "Now, we have this other item...." That means that they want to sell you something that costs twice as much. "Have you joined our ______________ Club yet?" So that they can get you on a dozen mailing/calling lists. "Our special today is two-for-one" They jack up the price for a single item so that you buy two and spend
  7. I think that it's a combination of ignorance, apathy, disrespect and a warped sense of entitlement. I think that some really don't know what constitutes private property vs. public property. You see skateboarders doing their skateboard thing in strip shopping centers, etc. I think that these young people think that it's public property that they are using. But, there's an apathy for discovering whether or not they are breaking the law, because they think that they deserve a verbal warning and they don't seem to care if they are breaking a law. That's part of the entitlement - they think
  8. You're nicer than I, Blazing Saddles. I wasn't going to tell him about name history! I'm not sure that there's a way to communicate the concept of respect for private property. Maybe in the schools, kids need a course on laws, being good neighbors and good citizens?
  9. There were other celebrities who died that week. My point is that the "Rule of 3" is a ridiculous superstition. Do you really think that Supernature cares about when celebrities die? And who ever said that the three had to die in the same week, as opposed to dying within one week of each other? Like all of these stupid superstitions, the "Rule of 3 Celebrities" is whatever its proponents say that it is. Try this: Go to a site that records celebrity deaths to see if you can put a pattern of 3 deaths in a calendar week together. You'll see that there is no pattern and that they are as random as
  10. Let's remember that this is about respecting the private property where a cave is located. Surely you're not implying that it is inhumane for a landowner to close down a cave on his own property! Fortunately, there is no such "loyalties" test. And matters of the conscience are not as black and white as you project them to be. Since we live in this country of laws, then we are subject to them. As it applies to cave-exploring on private property, that means that if you do break the law, you're subject to arrest. It's a tenet of civil disobedience, you know - that you have to be willing to a
  11. Nope, Sorry. Billy May's death was already counted as one of three celebrity deaths for another week, so you can't count it twice. That's one of the tenets in the Rule of 3 Celebrity Deaths In A Row! No Double-Counting! If you look back at celebrity deaths (there are a number of websites) you'll see that there is no pattern regarding their deaths. Also, what is a "celebrity" to one person isn't a celebrity to others. And what supernatural mechanism would be in place for making that sort of determination? And how about Fred Travalena? What was he, chopped liver? Gale Storm, the prev
  12. Didn't you hurl an insult? Or is a "Doober" a good thing? Why do you find "arrogance" in land ownership? Why is land any different from a person's other possessions? If you don't believe that we are a nation of laws and you don't believe in the concept of ownership aka "capitalism", then -- shouldn't your handle be "Steve Rogers, Anti-American"? Or is "Steve Rogers, American" your try at sarcasm? Look, nobody appreciates nature more than I do. But if the most beautiful spot found on this planet is located on my neighbor's property, I do not think that it is my right to tresspas
  13. You're right on target! What part of "other people's property" do some people not understand? It's a matter of respect, and compliance with the ACTUAL law (as opposed to the made-up "cave rights" cited by the lawbreakers) is a thing that is the personal responsibility of each citizen. On a related note, "Grizzly Adams" was, on another thread, begging people for help to repair his vehicle, because he had no means of getting it fixed without charity. I see a "user", someone who called the police and property owner of the cave, "A-Holes" here, because the police and property owner were seeki
  14. I know of a young man who recently had similar issues with a vehicle. When it went down, he called friends to help him out with rides and to make connections to help him get it fixed. They were happy to help because he was someone who had always been there for them. They were very happy to be there for him as a way of showing gratitude for his giving spirit. Of course this young man's family would have assisted him in times of crisis, because he rarely ever asked them for anything. He was a good son to his parents, and a brother that his siblings were proud of. What defines this you
  15. It wouldn't have "just happened" if the idiot parents hadn't had a python for a pet. As far at the comment about the little angel - I got the sarcasm.
  16. I think this just means that four celebrities died in the same week. There are websites that track celebrity deaths and if you go back through them, there's not a significant pattern of grouping by 3's or any other number. They are pretty much random.
  17. That's a valuable service, Mrs. G! Especially when it gets to be deer hunting season. IF we're able to get a forum going, you'll want to describe in detail the kind/size of truck that you need, what it will be used for, etc. Because it would be different if you were hauling concrete blocks or gravel - as opposed to bags of laundry, for instance.
  18. I'd barter. I don't usually think in terms of bartering, but it's a good idea, I think! What are the chances of a bartering forum here, under "Got the Goods"? I'd participate. There are people here with beach homes to rent, extra vehicles to sell, services to perform (massage, hair cutting/coloring, sewing,) etc and they have occasional needs that they could barter their goods and services for, and save the cash. It's a great idea.
  19. You didn't say who is cutting grass and who is giving the massage! If she looks good, will cut your grass if you massage her......
  20. SM, you're the one saying, "don't speak ill of the dead". I think THAT'S giving him a pass. I don't have a chip on my shoulder. It's just that I think that a person shouldn't be put on a pedestal and his actions/behaviors judged differently if he was famous or had money. You can still listen to MJ's music. You don't have to miss that! He hadn't produced anything worthwhile in years. I personally never cared for the crotch-grabbing pervy aspect of his performances. His personal life was part of the total measure of the man and it is appropriate discussion fodder in this public forurm.
  21. As an adult, you should know the difference between the judicial system and the court of public opinion. I just don't understand why a person who is a celebrity gets a free pass. A teacher, for example, who did the exact same thing would be fired, convicted, and forced to register as a sex offender!
  22. I think that in the same way that O.J.'s image of being a Hall of Fame football player and Hollywood actor was tarnished by his misdeeds (whether he was convicted of them or not) so should Michael Jackson's legacy be viewed in a similar context. For people to try to rewrite his history to leave out the underage child loving -- that's what is bizarre to me! Otherwise the message is this: If you have popular music icon status, then your misdeeds are to be forgiven due to your elevated status. If you have enough money, then you can pay off the parents of your victims. I think that the t
