I am not aware of any projects posted by Hiram or Dallas for the couple of % they are to receive. Do you have a link or any info ? I know 50% or more is transportation issues via PDOT. Roads, bridges, intersections, widenings and potholes. I know close to 30% Public Safety, inlcuding a new 911 center, fire stations, fire engines, patrolcars and other capital equipment for the Sheriff's department. I know without SPLOST most of the capital purchases will not be possible even with a large increase of the millage rate on the homeowners. As per The Sound Guy's analysis, there is ap

But Jason's campaign literature and press releases say he is absolutely against any "wasteful spending", and the ICE program would be a total waste of taxpayer money.

You want to revert back to King Jerry and his band of RBMDs then by all means throw your vote to Beverly. But I will say, that is one hell of a cut in pay she will be taking going from her administrative position at $65,000 a year to a post commissioner's far less take home pay. But then again, she will be able to throw the wrench into the gears for any programs David Austin wants to accomplish and be his nemisis at every turn. Enough of the old regime, let's try a new group and see what they can do for us? instead of to us!

I am with you CW, the party affiliation means nothing. Depending on what happens tomorrow, I will be voting a very, very split ticket in November. I have some "D"s I intend to vote for; I have some "D"s I intend to vote against; as well as a whole covey of "R"s I will be supporting as well. For those who are do or die party people, just remember many times you will end up with the best politician money can buy.

I feel Jason's Press Release was done in the same manner as much of what Glenn Richardson's legislation was all about.....political grandstanding. Glenn was real good at sponsoring legislation like the bill mandating Bible study to be offered as an elective. Yet his own BOE never would even take up the topic for discussion. It was all done for a look-good, feel-good agenda for the voters. Too bad he spent even less time on real pertinent legislation to help out the home crowd like Impact Fees. In Doraville, with a HUGE hispanic population Jason was an executive member of the Galeo, the his

Correct, SPLOST cannot pay salaries. But Sheriff Gulledge will still have to buy new patrolcars and equip them. Without the SPLOST this money will come from the operating budget and personnel will end up getting cut as a result. Get going to bring industry to Paulding, with real jobs and some help offsetting our 85% residential tax base. THEN we may be able to forego SPLOST in the future. In the meantime SPLOST and property taxes are the only way the county has to generate revenue.

Very much so. I just have to keep my distance from the local GOP Party Posse and all of the fruitcakes and nuts involved with it. But yes, I am very much fiscally conservative and a heavy duty capitalist no less. 30 years of running my own business kind of warped me that way.

Not true! PDOT % went up. Public Safety % went WAY up. Parks & Rec % went way down [11%] Dallas & Hiram each get more than they did last time. So the priorities have not remained the same. Transportation and Public Safety are the top priorities and are overwhelmingly the majority of the SPLOST at almost 70%,

And it is not my responsibility to entice Sheriff Gulledge to come on to P.com to hold your hand and tell you what he told me. Maybe Pubby can ask why he does not support the ICE progarm ? It made perfectly good sense to me. 2 dedicated officers per shift, doing nothing but ICE, fully equipped partrol car, all electronices on board. These officers cannot be doing "normal" patrol duty per ICE regulations. And, half or more of those detained are not wanted by the Feds, so the ICE unit has to release them. On the other side of the coin, all who are arrested now for an infraction like

I suggest you contact Gary and ask if he, or if he would appoint Deputy Gurley, their PR man, to come on and do just that. I had my suspicions when I read Jason's Press Release. I am very familiar with the E-Verify system as most poultry plants use it, but I was igonorant of ICE so I searched it, and called Gary. If you choose to dispute what he told me on the phone, fine. So you call him and request he clarify the matter on p.com. I told him about Jason's press release and that there was a thread running on p.com.

Wrong. The BOC last year raised the BOND payment millage rate in order to service the bonds for King Jerry's TajMahal Courthouse and Administration complex along with the Green Space property the voters approved 2 years ago. Don't start spewing mis-information. And remember King Jerry chose NOT to raise the millage rate in order to service the bonds the previous budget year because it was an election year, and he got caught trying to raise the rate without the public hearings as REQUIRED by law. Instead his staff requested Richardson twist some arms at the DOR to get us an exemption f

After Jason's "Press Release" concerning our Sheriff's Department participating in ICE, I spoke to Gary Gulledge, who wants no part of ICE unless someone is going to step forward and put up the money for a minimum of 6 officers and patrolcars with all equipment. Otherwise he sees it as a waste of time, money and manpower. He was surprised Jason had proposed this program without discussing it with him first. Why don't YOU call Gary Gulledge and ask him ? Jason also did a previous "Press Release" calling for a further reduction in our millage rate and insisting the BOC cut another $500,000 o

The last one paved 180 miles of roads, numerous new intersections and a couple of bridges. This will include finishing the Hiram Parkway all the way around to 278 @ Cleburne Parkway as well as widening Bill Carruth to the Norfolk Southern tracks to encompass a new industrial park and the hospital site. I believe widening the first part of 92 through Hiram is also included. A new 911 center, and providing Public Safety with the means to continue to purchase patrol cars and other equipment.

Oh so true. Tommie has been a true breath of fresh air on the commission. No rubber stamping, but instead asking the right questions and digging into what's what with the projects before approving them as presented. He really has developed the end of Cadillac into the only NICE industrial/office park in the county, and would be a giant plus in helping to develop a joint venture sort of project along the railroad tracks adjacent to the stinky fields. I believe that is scheduled to get serious when the stinky fields are shut down sometime next month. Tommie has the foresight to help s

I have known David for 10 years or so and have found him to have his heart in the right place. I would guess his biggest negative would be the fact his family has indeed been here for generations. But I have found Anivitarte to do too much grandstanding for my tastes. If he wants the Sheriff's Department to participate in ICE and for us to spend a half a million dollars a year to round up illegals, and then have to turn half of them loose because the Feds don't want them, then AT LEAST he should sit down and discuss it with Gary Gulledge first. We elect the Sheriff to run the Sheriff's Dep

The Georgia Ethics Commission is a joke. Their idea of an investigation is "Did you do something wrong ?"...., "No, I did not."; and the investigation is closed. End of story. We have no ethics commission, at least not in realistic terms.

Left over fried chicken, deviled eggs, arugula and romaine salad, boiled shrimp with horseradish-garlic-butter...... and green tea. No wine....I am doing the lo carb thing again and am abstaining from my daily wine and gin routine.

Where is the election party going to be Tuesday evening?
surepip replied to surepip's topic in Paulding County NEWS
Keep us posted on what your plans are Pubby. I would much rather rally around the Dallas Square instead of the Taj Mahal but I can't help you with getting the votes. Have you asked Diedre if there is anyway you can get a copy of a report from each precinct as they turn them in to her, or some way to get the number from one of the pollworkers at each precinct ? -
I would be interested in "from scratch" meals, but I will pass on the store bought stuff. Keep us all posted on how it goes.....

!] The investigation against Shearin 2 years ago was a full fledged Ethics Commission investigation. There was indeed sufficient evidence to mount an investigation into various activities including donations from companies doing work for the county. 2] Shearin was cleared, this time, by the Ethics commission. The previous investigation ended up with him paying fines and giving the money back. 3] This is, by the way, the exact same Ethics Commission Panel who "grilled" Glenn Richardson....i.e.: "Mr Richardson, Did you have an affair with the AGL Lobbyist who you were sponsoring the

My biggest issue with the RTL crowd is why waste time, energy, money, and effort trying to pass state legislation which the SCOTUS will shoot down. Until Roe v Wade is overturned, the law of the land will remain as it is. And I ask the RTLfers if they are willing to have part of their legislation include the clause to prohibit Birth Control Pills at the same time? Keep your religion, but don't wear it on your sleeve and base public politics on it. As the man said, Church and State are separate.

Computers are only as accurate as the info put in. Good example: We have maintained our old address on Palisades Parkway, even though they moved the road and techincally the part around us is now Berwicks Way. However, during the depostions and hearings in our suits against the county and the developer, we were informed we were still at the same address on Palisades BECAUSE the 250 feet of road in front of our house had not been turned over to D R Horton, and technically was still Palisades. 2-3 months ago we received a change of address letter from the county telling us our address

No.....I don't think I like the idea of any legislator taking a tax decision like this OUT of the tax paying voters hands. I am trying to get clarification of just why Mr Stout voted against it. He makes no sense on his no vote statement.

Just for arguments sake on the transportation bill; As I understand it that bill was just to allow a referendum to allow the voters to decide if we would or would not support a regional transportation 1Cent sales tax. Why would you choose to make up our minds for us, instead of approving a bill to simply allow a resolution to put this issue on a voter referendum next year ? And even more so considering the transportation woes of Paulding County ? There was no "tax increase" issue here. It was simply to allow or not allow a referendum to let the voters decide for themselves, much the sa
