Sometimes you need to help get the smoke going the right way. You can try rolling a small amount of newspaper and lighting the end then holding that up towards the flue. It can help get the smoke/heat draw going the right way. I do hope it is just something that simple.

Without having all of the details of the call we really can't judge the decision ... what we can do is respect that many departments/agencies all over the country have staging policies when certain criteria are met. They have reasons for their policies. While not in any way passing judgment on the person this call was for ... young female ... OD ... could easily be read as a possible suicide attempt. That is never considered a safe scene until somebody is actually there and can assess that in person. Again ... not saying that is what the call was.

Somebody with the power, please add "horrific case of child abuse" as a sub-title to this thread. His father didn't kill anybody ... the mother's boyfriend did. The father went up for forgery.

$7,000??? Holy crap! Ok, so we didn't have the viewing, etc. but the one cremation that I have paid for was just over $1,000. You wouldn't have to have the gem made into a piece of jewelry. You could do about anything with it. Maybe you have a special vase or piece of silver made and have the gem add to adorn it and make it a special family piece. Still not the thing for everyone (myself included) but just some ideas other than wearing a dead person.
