    Can you say "digital migration"?
  2. I would take it to a locak technician, even though it means spending a couple of dollars.

  4. While many appeals are for complete exoneration, many, if not most, 11th hour appeals are for commutation to life sentence, as was the Utah inmate's case. Lacking quantitative evidence that shows most inmates waiving their right of appeal, and/or insisting (á la Gary Gilmore, also in Utah) on execution as soon as possible, the claim still seems very far-fetched. All of the pyschologal and pastoral theories are very interesting indeed, but the fact remains that nearly all inmates seek to avoid the death penalty, including those who seek commutation to life in prison.
  5. Thirty days is not nearly enough time to study all of the documents related to a case. There is also the fact that well over one hundred death row inmates have been cleared by DNA in recent decades, including this well-known case in Tennessee last year. And this is but one example of many, as a simple google will reveal. The advent of DNA testing has not changed my opinion about the morality of the death penalty, but it has caused me to rethink the circumstances under which it should be used.
  6. I support the right of the state to administer the death penalty, but somehow this claim is difficult to swallow. Nearly every inmate on death row who even gets close to execution--including this one in Utah--avails himself of every possible avenue of appeal. Very rare is the inmate who waives all rights of appeal, so your claim would seem a bit questionable.

  8. That may be too large a spread to cover at current temperatures. In other words, on sunny days and depending on the amount of sun hitting your roof, your AC may take a couple of hours to lower the temperature those four degrees, and run continuously to do so. The warmest period these days is between 3-7PM, since the sun does not set until well after that. If the sun hits your roof directly, and depending on your insulation, you may be making the AC run a good deal to get the temperature down to 75. Normally 2-3 degrees is the recommended change for when one is out of the house. I go with two d
  9. If you live in a subdivision (especially one built in the last 5-7 years), the money for the streetlights installed by the county on subdivision streets is billed by the county on each resident's water bill. The water bill is the only untility that the county runs in each subdivision, regardless of location. Electric and gas bills vary with location and resident, so they charge back the subdivision streetlights on your water bill, rather than billing separately.
  10. "Touchdown Jesus" as a nickname comes from the University of Notre Dame's football stadium, which has had a similar mural on one wall of the stadium since the 1960s.
  11. That will not work. Part of the installation process is the customer either calling Comcast or using the website and providing the serial number of the boxes, and Comcast sends the signal.
  12. There is no installation charge if you hook it up yourself. It costs $49.95 if a tech comes to your house to do it. Customer service said that they did not know precisely when the coversion would occur, so I don't expect it will be too soon that channels disappear. They never claimed to me that this was related to the analog/digital conversion.
  13. The new boxes are unrelated to analog TV's--cable reception (until now) took care of that. Got the new boxes at my house this week. The notice says--I have it in front of me--as did the woman on the phone: "You will receive up to two additional adapter boxes are no additional charge. [bold in the original.] If you'd like additional digital devices, set-top boxes start at $6.95 per month, and digital adapters are $1.99 each per month." The notice then shows both devices. The set-top box is a larger box, familiar to many who already have a full digital package, and receives On Demand and

  15. Retirement age for social security is now 67, and how does one count 32 as "midway" in career years? Most people do not start careers until 18-22 range. One cannot count one's childhood as part of career years.

  19. How do you figure? Most of the answers were either general or humorous. No one even came close to a "struck nerve" reaction.
  20. Unlikely, since the Paulding County Board of Commissioners has absolutely no authority over the Board of Education and the Paulding County School District, which is a different entity.
  21. 1) The district is a total of $36 million short. 2) However, $14 million in cuts that were made in last year's budget will be made again, resulting in a $22 million deficit. 3) 284 teachers who are currently in first and second-year contracts will not be renewed when the contracts go out over the next two weeks. 4) A number of administrative and central office certified positions will be eliminated, forcing those folks to return to the classroom. These individuals must first be placed, according to their areas of certification, before anyone can be hired back. There is always a chance
  22. But why would your assumption be that people founded an area called Nebo, then decided to name the main church in the area Mount Nebo? Given the historic and scriptural name of Mount Nebo, and the not uncommon naming of churches by this name (google "Mount Nebo" and "church" and see how many there are), wouldn't the more reasonable assumption be that the area was named after the church? This is especially true when no knowledge is held of a family by that name. If one sees a church named Mount Sinai and and area named Sinai, would one infer that there may have been a Sinai family or that the a
  23. Mount Nebo is a common name for churches, as it is an old testament venue, the site where Moses first laid eyes on the Holy Land. It is not a Paulding original.
  24. Of course, the fact that Mount Nebo United Methodist Church is in the area has much to do with how Nebo was named.
  25. Not just up North, but everywhere. Property values go down wherever there are higher percentages of renters in an HOA. In Florida, where many HOA dues are $200+ per month in very average communities, this figure increases by about $40-50 per month if renters comprise more than a quarter of the communuity. Replacement costs and routine wear-and-tear on common areas tend to be higher in such circumstances.
