Has anyone ever had their child repeat Pre-K?
workingforaliving replied to QualityCutsLawncare's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I hope so too. Worst case, the family will have to involve an outside company to keep the kid caught up. After 3rd grade the curriculum picks up some serious speed. -
I was approved at $200,000 but bought at $125,000 because I refused to spend 1/2 or more of my check on a mortgage payment. Now I think I spend a little less than 25% of my take home pay on my mortgage.....and I like it like that.

Has anyone ever had their child repeat Pre-K?
workingforaliving replied to QualityCutsLawncare's topic in RECENT TOPICS
In 3rd grade it has to be a unanimous decision (parent, teacher, school rep) to send them on to 4th if they don't pass the required CRCT tests. At least you'll have that going for you since state laws are involved. As for the other thing, the principal has no idea what NCLB is if he cited it as a reason not to hold a kid back. -
Maternity Tourism: a growing trend
workingforaliving replied to GeorgiaTornado's topic in RECENT TOPICS
That was one of my first thoughts. My second what that I didn't think airlines let people fly that late into pregnancy? I've been to Cuba and I've been pregnant. I would never want to do both at the same time. -

Twins! I repeates because we moved states and in Louisiana I was able to test into K because I had the skills, but in GA I had to be a certain age. -

I would chose to repeat K rather than pre-K. I have no reason other than costs and that the learning day is longer so your kid might get more out of 2 rounds. -
I reported this to change the title. Seriously....learn to research.

Opinions would be greatly appreciated..

If you call DFCS then they won't list your name. They'll ask you a LOT of questions and add it to their file (or start a new one if there isn't one on the family). THEY decide what to do with the information and are trained on what the next steps should be.....YOU are not. I think this is a case where it's okay to "pass the buck"....even if you don't have all the facts. -
I often tell my coworkers that I'm going to switch schools to someplace where no one expects me to interpret data, commit to extra curriculars, or do anything else outside of the scheduled hours...... I don't think I would last though.

Paranoia is going to get you. This thread should be closed based on the simple fact that it's based on rumor and the OP obviously lacks what is required to obtain this information. THIS is a prime example why the district can't build a decent repuation in this county.

I got a ticket the other week for speeding in a school zone.....except that it was after the time the school zone ended (according to the dept that controls the flashing lights). I asked the officer what time a school zone quit being a school zone and he said that he didn't know. I didn't argue with him, because that wasn't the appropriate time to do so. My favorite part is that he gace others tickets after me (I saw him while I was waiting on the traffic light to change). So....he wasted tax payer $ by writing a ticket for a violation that wasn't committed, wasting court time because I'm sure

Judge Rules Child Must Go To Public School
workingforaliving replied to NewsJunky's topic in RECENT TOPICS
As someone who just came through the court in the great state of GA, I can vouch for the "untrue" remarks. I raised my daughter on my own and furthered my education so that I could afford to provide a good life for her....while he was absent and not paying a dime for 2 of my daughter's 3 years at the time. He got more than his fair shake. -

I went out the door this morning and realized I forgot to close mine behind me last night. Scared the crap out of me to realize it had been open all night. -
I liked the show from beginning to end. I think it was staged for the judges, but not for the contestants.

There's always more.... Who's paying the bills so that mom can stay home and homeschool? I know my baby-daddy gets all pissy when I buy something nice because he feels like it's HIS money paying for it (even though I make almost 2x as much as he does!).......some dudes can't handle that. -
Got my new plan in the mail this week. Went from $550/yr to $800/yr.

How will our children be able to sign their name?
workingforaliving replied to Baileybleu's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Why do kids need to know how to write in cursive? What's the benifit other than it's just "cool" or because we learned it that way? I'd be more concerned that students are heading into high school unable to find key countries on a globe. -
Do you have that much coverage? If so, it seems like your insurance company's problem, not yours. If you don't have that much coverage, I would definately hire someone. Go to court and argue your case if you feel you weren't at fault. That's what it's there for.

I get annoyed when big businessed buy up little businesses.......no one wins but the higher ups.

Is there? Kids are killing themselves at a higher rate than at any other point in history. When they leave notes, many are citing bullying as a catalyst. To the parents and families of those kids, there is absolutely nothing in the world worse. I've had 2 students attempt suicide over my teaching career. They were being bullied and felt worthless and didn't know what else to do. The bullying was happening right in front of my face (not literally) and I never saw it because I wasn't looking for it or I did what most do and chalked it up to kids just being kids. There is nothing worse,

For every one video like this we actually see, it happens a thousand times where no one sees.

Anyone heard about a bus being surrounded by cops
workingforaliving replied to haralson_rebel's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I'm thinking parking the bus is the best thing to do if you're about to lose it....I wouldn't want that thing moving. As far as the letting kids off....I don't know procedure, but I suspect that you just can't let kids off the bus with whoever. I could tell you I'm my child's mother all day long, but my last name isn't the same as hers, so it couldn't be varified. On the flip side of that, the person whose last name she does have, isn't allowed to pick her up from school....so showing ID is out the window. This only works AT SCHOOL because there's a list in the computer of who is okay and -

My only issue with this is that a sub driver might not know who the parents are and who called who to come get them. Could you imagine the outcry if someone other than a parent took the kids? She should have called the barn and asked for advice, so that THEY would take the blame if THEY said not to release the kids. Otherwise, you're right. -

I sent a kid out in the hall today and had to pray before going out there to deal with the kid. I don't think anyone in this thread is grasping how WILD the kids were today. I think I have PTSD. Touching students is still unacceptable. -
My BFF in college and I ate there weekly. I didn't know it was still around....I may need to take a trip
