  1. Yeah, but try to buy a hammer When I lived there, before the big stores took over, you could buy liquor on Sunday, but all the other stores seemed to be closed! Of course, that was the 80s. When I was in AZ last year, my dad got liquor at WalMart...which blew my mind....then I realized it was SUNDAY....too bad it's so damn hot there.
  2. Don't they have several new coaches this year? Maybe that'll make a difference?
  3. My air is broken. I hope I can delay getting it fixed.
  4. YOU didn't rely on the school to provide the therapy did you? I think, for me, the issue is that a lot of parents think that the SCHOOL is responsible for the therapies.
  5. I think you read a lot more attitude that I wrote with. Calm down. Breathe. I'm just saying that there may be deeper emotions your son may be having, considering a new baby and a new husband for Mommy, and he may be trying to figure out where he fits into the family. Maybe he thinks that if he has matching last names as everyone in the house he'll fit in better. I'm not saying this is what's happening, but it is something you may want to look into. As for mentioning your other children, it's the same as above. How do they feel about this "new" family where mom has a new husband and
  6. The 90s had ADHD, we have Autism. It's a "we don't really know what to call it" kind of diagnosis. I have come across a handful of kids with Aspergers who I would be more inclined to believe as EBD or OHI than AUT.
  7. I'm glad this had a completely different turn out than the last plane crash in Paulding.
  8. I'm forwarding this to my single wino friends
  9. It's hard to know what motivates kids since they rarely know themselves. I'm in a situation where a judge is going to force me to change my daughter's last name TO her father's. She doesn't want it, but she's only 3. I know the OP has several other kids also. How do they feel about it? This is not a decision that should be taken lightly.
  10. Daycares are private and parents have choices. If this were an issue in a public school then I would probably have better advise on options. The requirements to be a daycare worker isn't very high compared to K-12 teachers. I believe some daycares require an associates degree at a minimum.
  11. Collaborative classes implies a second teacher..... Also, I don't believe eduation as a whole is beyond repair. I think we need to be more realistic about our special needs population. We're being pushed by the feds to 100% inclusion and 100% passing reading and math. I have taught math to special needs students with IQs in the low 70 all the way up to over 100. The feds expect these students to all perform "at grade level." For me, this issue once again is FEDERAL INVOLVEMENT!
  12. They have been having a lot of trainings in the extra classrooms. I went to one there last week!
  13. I don't know about daycares, but I do know that there are older-kids schools popping up with programs for kids with special needs. AND, there is a voucher program so that parents can offset the costs of these special programs. The problem, however, is that they're in places that are NOT convinent to Paulding
  14. People care, but training has been scarce until the last few years. I have a masters degree in special education (finished it in 2007, so it's recent) and I can only remember 2-3 times when Autism was even mentioned. We have a few autism specialists in the county, but they're running around to 33 different schools. There is a LOT of work that needs to be done NATIONALLY. Also, as far as training, think about this: I'm a general education teacher and once every 2-3 years I have a student with austism in my class. Is it worth paying for my own training or will I focus my professional le
  15. You JUST got married and you want to change your son's last name? My dad had his last name changed when he was young to his step-father's name and as soon as he turned 18 he changed it back to his bio-father's last name. The name change has caused some difficulties and prolonged security clearences he's needed for his job. He hasn't seen his bio-dad in almost 50 years, but still prefers his last name to his stepfathers. A 7 year old should not have the right to make this decision, IMO. He doesn't have the maturity or wisdom. Also, given the SHORT period of time (
  16. Autism has become mainstream in the last decade and a lot of teachers and facilities are starting to realize the need for specialize training and programs.
  17. Either way, I won't be able to sleep for a week!
  18. I don't know what the hell you're talking about.
  19. Yes they do! I will definately be looking to them for all of my bakery needs! I wonder if they do flan....
  20. Yes ma'am you did I have been giving them a hard time for months about the havoc they're reaking on my waistline because I drop by there AT LEAST once a week (usually on Fridays) for a treat and "maprise" for my little one! I think I'm going to cry when the PB&J cupcakes are out of season
  21. I need to live somewhere that stays between 65 and 80 year round.
