  1. we miss ya down here. Things have gotten a bit dull without you.
  2. Went to check the new tax records. When done, I tried to go to the http://www.paulding.gov site and it was down --- did ittake off for the holiday? Maybe it's on a furlough day???
  3. goodness, mine went down $10 --- i must live in a depressed area. Funny half my block went up and half down, but since you can't see the details anymore, i can't see the zoning codes, etc. of my neighbors to compare.
  4. According to the Georgia Free Clinic Network , these are the free clinics in the area. Not exactly free, since they charge ad admin fee and you have to qualify. Free Clinic of Rome Inc. 16 East 12th Street, Suite 101, Rome, GA 706-295-6166 Bartow Health Access 550 Martin Luther King Jr Drive, Cartersville, GA 678-535-7216 Good Samaritan Health Center of Cobb 1605 Roberta Drive, Marietta, GA 770-419-3120 www.goodsamcobb.org Luke's Place Inc. 948 Front Street, Mableton, GA 678-945-1847 www.lukesplaceclinic.org
  5. I also live in South Paulding, near the Nebo Rd. & Dallas Nebo Rd. intersection, great area. 4 supermarkets (Kroger, Publix, Ingles, Food Lion) within a few miles, yet mostly rural. Just so you know, a large portion of South Paulding has a Douglasville address thanks to the Post Office, so make sure you don't count those houses out.
  6. AJC Article Steep fines for some robocalls start Tuesday Telemarketers must get written permission, but informational, political, charitable messages still OK By Don Sadler For the AJC 6:08 a.m. Monday, August 31, 2009 ABRIDGED ARTICLE: They have become the bane of practically everyone who owns a telephone, whether cell or land-line: so-called “robocalls.” These prerecorded commercial telemarketing calls come in at all hours of the day and night, and until now, there wasn’t much anyone could do about them. But that’s all going to change Tuesday, when such call
  7. For obvious reasons (fears that it would be defeated because of the increase in this year's real estate taxes) the county had deferred the vote to extend the SPLOST to 2010 according to a blurb in today's AJC. They quoted School Superintendant Larry Ragsdale from last Tuesday's school board meeting. Is this a school SPLOST or a County SPLOST?
  8. Two comments: (1) We've found the easiest way to the airport is Rt. 92 South to Rt. 166 East to a right on Camp Creek Parkway --- you don't even have to get on an interstate. (2) There is an express bus from the movies in Hiram to downtown Atlanta, where you can transfer FREE to MARTA ang go down to the airport. It only runs during morning & evening rush hours Monday-Friday, but you dont have to drive her at all. I used to do it all of the time when I lived in Marietta and tok the express form there to downtown.
  9. We are going to check out Food Lion today. But since we don't get their circulars, etc. although we're 2-3 miles away --- d'ville address must have something to do with it --- How is the store and when can you sign up for their shopper card and when are they giving away gofts / prizes? Etc. Etc. Etc.
  10. NO, and we're a little over 2 miles away with a Douglasville address ---- doubt if the bag hangers could find our S/D, let alone our house.
  11. Unless he has some other way, the route from the movies is only in rush hours (both ways) and is te GRTA Express Bus to Downtown Atlanta run by Cobb Community Transit. I've doen it the same way from Marietta and it's great. From the Airport, you take MARTA (get a transfer) to the Civic Center station and board the correct bus . Routes 470 & 47
  12. I've come to realize that sometimes it's their persona talking. The real person is nothing like the way they are on pcom.
  13. I often see posts from certain folks (on Facebook mainly, not so much here) who say serious (or mean) things and feel that by adding LOL it's ok. For example, I have a new daughter-in-law of 2 months who told my nephew on Facebook that she would prefer his parents to be her inlaws (LOL). Funny I told my son and he had her remove her comment (LOL).
  14. If they had a camera going, they could have won the prize on Funiest Home Videos
  15. They used to, but have signs now that they will take no more paint!!! Duron on 278 had the paint hardener.
  16. Heavens, no Besides the story of what happened to Atlantic City after they got casinos, the current proposal to have a casino in Underground Atlanta reminds me if how many historical landmarks have already been destroyed in Atlanta. If we allowed casinos, would the Cherokee indians have a right to their own casino on the land we kicked them out of?
  17. Got a Nixle from the PCSO at 8:05am, which started: AVOID E. Paulding Dr @ E. Paulding High School for the next 30-45 min due to traffic collision. Later on they said AVOID East Paulding Dr near East Paulding High School due to current traffic congestion. which is what the meant. Honest mistake when you're rushing to inform the public.
  18. passed 2 this morning between 10am-11am but didn't need any. we were going up 92 making a right by regions and up past Hiram Elementary, past Home Depot and over to Petsmart from within the shoppig strip --- can't remember where we saw them.
  19. FULL STORY HERE From MSNBC.COM Cats get a bad rap on the Internet, frequently stereotyped as LOL ignoramuses, forever shredding grammar like a half-dead mouse in what the World Wide Web would have us believe is their endless quest for "cheezburgers." ... Rescued from a ditch when she was no more than a teeny, tiny ball of fluff, Oreo C. Collins, a 2-year-old tuxedo cat from Macon, Ga., may be the very first in her family to obtain a 'high school diploma' — online or off. (Of course, we may never know for sure because, as she wrote in her "life experience essay" portion of the test, she's
  20. It's too hot in August --- wait for late September or early October.
  21. We tried it with a powered indoor antenna and got about 16 or so channels. Almost all are using the UHF band, so you need to aim your UHF antenna properly and put it near a window. Didn't work well otherwise. A lot of folks with a roof antenna don't have UHF on it, only VHF --- won't do any good.
  22. AJC's on-line archives only go back to 1985 --- you might check one of the libraries for microfilm copies of that year. LINK
  23. Loved the show with Big Pie in the Sky in Kennesaw's Carnivore Challenge
  24. My wife has used Dr. Michael Brown from Kennestone Heart for several years. He and his staff are excellent. They are now at 355 Tower Road in Marietta. 770-426-4721 Feel free to PM me if you need more info.
  25. Excerpt from the LA TIme review, as published in the AJC: In the new CBS reality competition, eight families living next to each other in an Atlanta suburb agree to engage in an "experiment." Their row of (very nice) houses is walled off from the rest of the world, their electricity cut and they are pitted against each other for a $250,000 prize. Over seven episodes, the families will engage in various competitions; the winning family gains not only immunity for the week but also the responsibility of "nominating" two families to be removed. The remaining families then vote on which famil
