I don't pray to God to answer my prayers. I pray for God to give me strength to get through the things in life that happen due to broken people. In church this week there was a lot of talk about the hostage situation in Midland City since it is so close to where I live. The associate pastor made a comment, basically saying that a lot of people will look at something horrible happening, like the kidnapping of a little boy, and ask how can God let this happen. He said the true Christian will realize that we live in a world of broken people, some more broken than others, and we are among the brok

Thankfully I'm not the only one that got that vibe...not that that is what was meant, but that's how I'm reading it.

I wonder why not cut power to the bunker. I guess since the boy has not been harmed they don't want to provoke him.
-
It may go weeks. This is a survivalist bunker, it has power, food, television. I don't know what the long term plan is. I've wondered if they could pump gas in via the PVC pipe that they delivered the boys meds down there. I cannot put my head around what the boys family must be feeling, it would take everything I had in me not to go bum rush the bunker if it were my kid. Scary that this is all happening 10 minutes from where i live

I haven't heard anything about this anywhere on the news, of course I'm out of state.

My Link Don't know if the link will work, but the local bookstore is looking for a buyer, if there's no interest it will be liquidating soon.

The last thing we heard about the man on the local news last night was that he was believed to be a neighbor of the boy who he took.
-
This happened about 20 minutes from where I live. The last thing I heard on the news was that the man shot the bus driver and took the boy and they are held up in a makeshift bunker. We are expecting some nasty weather today, interesting to see how that will effect things.
-
Didn't effect me one way or the other. I rarely if ever go there. And I'm probably more in line with the no sale/cupon shopping. I can't remember the last time I used a coupon, they're never for things I need.

THANK YOU! One of my friends is a militant breast feeder, doesn't want to vaccinate, and wants to do a home birth drug free, BUT she is covered head to toe in tats....it just makes me shake my head.

Does that go along with the old Chris Rock skit about you know what they say about a woman with a tongue ring.....and then he says you know what they say about a man with a tongue ring....same thing they say about a woman with a tongue ring.

My two year old has said worse. We've had to correct her from using the f word, from saying "oh sheeze", and damnit. So if she says sucks as a teen and that's as bad as it gets it'll be a miracle. I blame her dad though for most of it, however, "Oh sheeze" is totally my doing.

If they start using purple won't the kids just begin to fear purple over time.

I'm a little worried about the state of society if there is more money to be made from 21+ year olds drinking and skating than there is from kids playing at the skating rink.
-
Well then that goes to the other side, a sporting event is not something specifically geared towards young children, so I would say the responsibility there lies with the parent bringing their kid to the game. If you want to expose your kid to that then it is your choice if you take them to that. Me personally, I'm not paying to take my kid to a sporting event until they can understand the game, and can sit in their seat for the entirety of the event.
-
There should probably be a no fatties rule at the rink as well, of course I would hope anyone truly obese wouldn't try to put on skates anyway....I can say that because I am fat. I think that being an adult and partaking in adult things comes with the responsibility to know when those things are appropriate and when they aren't. But advertising, tv shows, movies, portray people drinking almost non-stop, but that's not a realistic portrayal of what happens if you are in fact consuming that much wine or beer. Someone mentioned in another thread a tv show, I think it was Cougar Town where th

When's the last time someone got hopped up on caffeine and shot their spouse, or killed someone in a car accident? Eating too many cheeseburgers is bad too, but it doesn't cause damage to another person. Not the same thing as drinking or drugs.

I don't think that I have to model responsible drinking. I think I could count on one hand the amount of times I ever saw my parents drink. I'm sure they did, I'm sure maybe they did a lot before they had me or after I moved out. But when I was in their care they were never drunk, and rarely almost never drank. I turned out to be a very responsible drinker myself. Did I get drunk in college? Yep, did I get drunk when I was in my early 20's, yep. There's a time and a place and situations. I don't think I have to be drinking to teach my kids about being responsible. I also know that genetics, an

I don't care if people smoke as long as they are aware of where they are when they are doing it. My husband smoked when we first had kids. He did it outside away from the kids where they didn't see him.
-
Just from what I saw on the news about it, yes, what you said, and that it was involving minorities in a primarily minority area. People only care when it happens to white people.

It didn't close 2 to 3 years ago. It's by the Taco Bell. I think there was a Hollywood Video where the Sears appliance store is, but that closed longer ago than that.
-
And no one is up in arms about this one....know why?
-
My 2 cents, and I don't care if you agree with me or not, but, if something is specifically geared towards children ie. skating rink, chuck E cheese, Disney World...I think that it should be alcohol and smoke free and drug free for that matter. I think our society through the media and what have you has made people think that alcohol is suitable at any time at any place. I don't think people should drink when they are transporting children, or when they are supervising children. I think it is a problem if you can't go somewhere with your kids for a short period of time and refrain from drinkin

Anything I bought that was Alabama related for my girls was usually ordered on line or bought by family in Alabama. Walmart sometimes sells onesies during football season.
