  1. Hot tap water in the freezer is not is not a good replicable experiment to test the freeze rate of hot vs. cold water. If you are really curious about it, you can read more about the Mpemba effect. There are several explanations, but evaporation is one of those. If you have very hot or boiling water and cold water in the right conditions, the boiling water is going to lose a lot of its volume to evaporation, leaving less water to freeze than the cold water. Of course, this is not ALWAYS going to be true, and a lot of it depends on the distribution of the water and the location of the water dur
  2. It actually does happen under certain conditions.
  3. I hope so! Unfortunately, people are so crazy that it's hard not to think the worst!
  4. This is some seriously sick stuff! Makes me think whoever is doing this has a disease and is trying to spread it because they are so miserable with themselves and feel the world should suffer the same fate, though I didn't read the articles in their entirety and didn't see if they mentioned whether any DNA was found on the syringes. And HIV, etc. doesn't show up immediately, so it's probably going to be another couple weeks before anything is found out as to the health of those who were pricked.
  5. I doubt Rumple can bring him back...when Prince Charming's brother was killed (the real prince), Rumpelstiltskin told the king that magic could do a lot, but it couldn't bring people back from the dead...or something like that.
  6. I was upset about her killing the hunter, too. Really sucks! And it seems when shows start doing things like that like killing off a love interest that the show is not going to survive. Hope I am wrong about that. We really like the show...
  7. Wow...very tough. I hope this year brings you some comfort and peace!
  8. I read the same thing earlier. I can't believe people paid her for that. There are some sickos out there. I just can't see what would be hot about ANY woman stuffing their face with food, thin or fat. But, uh...to each their own?
  9. I've recently learned to embrace life and its craziness. I've finally come to terms with the fact that life is going to remain hectic for me and that there's always going to be *something* happening in my life or the life of those closest to me. And...I'm a much happier person now that I've had this epiphany. But I do wish I didn't procrastinate. :-)
  10. I have a problem with procrastination. I need to put that on my New Year's resolution list, but I probably won't...because I procrastinate.
  11. OMG! Thank GOD that woman was smart and didn't get out of the car. Lord knows what would have happened to her. She is braver than me, however, because if I had noticed no badge and had a weird gut feeling, I probably would have just pulled off. I can't believe he just said "nevermind" and left........wow........
  12. My mom hoards clowns. She should be on Hoarders. Each room is filled with clowns...there's nowhere to sit or hardly walk.
  13. My husband gave me diamond earrings the day our youngest was born last year. Unfortunately, he took them from me and hid them (I was wearing them so much it was making the holes stretch...was temporary), but he hid them well because we never found them! So...he got me some replacements for Christmas. My old set was small...maybe 1/3 ct. This set is at least 1 ct and is WAY too big. Each one is larger than my engagement ring, and that is way too big. I prefer smaller diamonds, especially in my ears. So he is taking them back...all I really wanted was an exact replacement of my other set.
  14. You are *very* welcome! Just glad I could help, and I hope the kids enjoy the gifts!!!!
  15. I got your PM, and I see you posted about 20 minutes ago. I am willing to drive over there now....I will delay wrapping presents and come out to bring the train set, and I also just realized that I have TWO BARBIES that I had gotten for a friend's daughter's birthday party that I can give the little girl! I will just buy more Barbies for my friend's daughter. PLEASE call me....You can call me any time! I will be awake for hours...at least until 3 am. I HATE the thought of these kids waking up without toys...I will drive to them and leave it on their porch or if you think the parents are a
  16. Hey...I PM'd you back! Give me that woman's address, and if I have to drive over there at 4am, I will do that...or I could meet you halfway if you are going to be up late too...
  17. If anyone is feeling the holiday spirit and wants to pick up some items from me that I was going to donate to a family, please let me know. I really do not have the time to deliver it to them as I work from home and my help is badly needed as everyone else has taken nearly all of the past week off. So in between that and wrapping for my own kids, I am pressed for time. The family cannot pick up... This is not set in stone as I was communicating with another member here who knows this family, but if she can get me an address, then maybe someone would be willing to pick up from me later
  18. That is so sweet! He is lucky to have you!
  19. Okay, just let me know. I was going to offer to buy the 2nd heater, but with the way the reviews are, I don't think he will need another. Most elderly I know tend to stay in one room much of the time, so I don't want to waste getting him a heater if it really works that well and something else could be used instead. That's great of you to help him out like that and sad that he has virtually no family. Sounds like you are his family!
  20. I know! I bet the person who paid her layaway didn't realize that doing so would help an elderly person stay warm!
  21. Oh, yay!!!! I'm so glad you bought him that one...I bet he will really love it! Does he need anything else???
  22. How nice of you! I don't know what heater you got, but I came across this one the other day when it was featured on Walmart's site. The reviews are excellent, and it supposedly really does heat the entire room versus just the immediate area near the heater. In our old house we sometimes used a little Honeywell heater, and it was terrible...I'd be warmer blowing a hair dryer all day long. This works well--from reviews--because of the fan that distributes the warm air. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Vornado-VPVH-Whole-Room-Heater/14903779?findingMethod=rr
  23. Wow...without even counting all the presents, I am right at $700...for no one but my 3 boys. I am stopping............that's about half of what I bought. I had no idea I spent that much, so I'd rather just forget about it....
  24. I hate the mercury bulbs. Two weeks ago my boys were playing, and the baby ran into the table and a lamp fell onto his head. The bulb broke on his face and cut him. Poison control said to do nothing but clean the cut...
