  1. I loved Gino's Pizza, on Cherokee Road in Smyrna. Went on a first date there. Don't remember the Woolworth's in T&C Shopping Center but used to go to the one at Cobb Center. Ate at their lunch counter many, many times. Anyone remember Dunaway's? I frequented their lunch counter when I worked across from Kennestone. They had the BEST hamburgers! You're showing your age calling it "Gordon Road". I have only heard of Mickey's but my hubby loved it. But along the lines of eating establishments in Mableton, how about Village Inn Pizza? They had kids night and we
  2. Same type of tag that Mickey's Roofing has/had. Guess some kind of work related disability, huh?
  3. That was the Georgian Oaks. Don't ask how I know. I love Howard's. Went a few weeks ago. Miss the Rio Vista, though. Nothing else like it.
  4. While 11 Alive doesn't have the entire program posted online (and not sure they will) they DO have a 6 minute video from the program. http://www.11alive.com/video/default.aspx?bctid=610764415001
  5. In spite of the fact that I got out and saw a lot of the flooding last year and have since gone to see most of the flooded areas, I still cannot fully grasp the destruction that occurred. I'd seen tornado damage (think the Good Friday tornado in 1991), hurricane damage (Opal, Ivan and Dennis) and house fires, but none of it compares to flood damage. At least once a week I pass three houses that were flooded last year. It breaks my heart to see them sitting there, empty except for the debris that hasn't been cleaned out yet. It still amazes me that there are two houses in Austell,
  6. I thought the ones that come around my feeder were aggressive. Sounds like they don't have anything on yours. Bet they are REALLY hyper after all that sugar.
  7. amazing those little rascals can fly after sipping that!
  8. I'm hoping she won't fight us too much. I'm going to take daughter and granddaughter instead of daughter and son in law taking her. She loves her Nana and my daughter and I both think it might be a little easier if I'm there instead of her dad.
  9. I've tried it with and without food coloring but have found the hummers seem to really enjoy it better when it's red. They just flew around it looking at it when it was clear. And same stuff, in the same feeder, in the same place, just different color.
  10. I sold "my" car in July but since that time I've driven a 2010 Kia Optima. I absolutely, positively LOVE IT! It's a four cylinder, so it doesn't have the pick up that an 8 cylinder would have but in exchange for that we get 27-29 MPG on the highway. I get between 19-23 in town, depending on how much stopping, starting and waiting at poorly timed traffic lights I do. The price was fantastic and even though it is termed the same size class as my Altima was, it has way, way more headroom, legroom, trunk and interior space. It's quiet, comfortable and affordable. The ONLY thing I don't like
  11. I use 2 cups of water, brought to a boil, and add 1/2 cup of sugar. Cool before putting in the feeder. I usually add a couple of drops of red food color because they really seem to be attracted to that quicker than the clear. If you have one of those standard size feeders, the 2 cups of water will make *almost* half a feeder of nectar.
  12. I would hope that they put the fence up on THEIR property. If so, there shouldn't be a problem. My next door neighbor's privacy fence has the "smooth" side facing us. It's obviously their fence, though. Do they factor in fences when arriving at tax value??? Granted, I live in Cobb but mine is based on heated sq footage, outbuildings, # of fireplaces and stuff like that. Not even a fence mentioned in mine. And yes, we have a chain link fence.
  13. My nephew's wife weighs probably 125, maybe 130. Her cholesterol is through the roof. Her blood pressure is a bit high. She has lung cancer. She's been married to my nephew for over 20 years and her weight has never been higher than it is now. She actually put on a few pounds (maybe 10) after her lung cancer diagnosis. She LOOKS perfectly healthy. You can't tell by looks.
  14. As a regular blood donor, this is something I've instilled in my daughter for the past 20 years--drink lots of fluids especially the day you're having blood drawn.
  15. Good idea about the toy. I'll pick one up for her. She got a doctor kit today. Why do you do monthly bloodletting?
  16. They do live in an older home (built wellllllll before 1978--like in the 1920s) and she is on Medicaid. I told my daughter today that I didn't worry about lead exposure in that house because there are probably 14 coats of paint over any lead paint that might be in there. We've owned the house since 2001 and it's been painted four times in less than 9 years. she will probably think it's cool if we tell her it's a butterfly.
  17. VERY healthy. Tall for her age, even. No, he didn't say why. Edited to add: apparently it is the lead level that IS mandatory. Found that on the state department of health website.
  18. the only time we have a problem is if it is really windy and then the channels, especially 14 and 30, will break up. Otherwise, awesome picture!
  19. I looked over the lab request and it said a purple top tube so I knew that wasn't just a finger stick. Just wondered how it was done. We're not looking forward to this because she pitched a fit at the doctor today and it was a well check! She just has no experience with anything like that and I think it scared her. I'll mention the cream or the spray. It's not so much that she will feel it as she will fight it. It's just routine, so we're not concerned about the results--just the needle stick. Doctor said it was mandatory to have it done. It's no big deal. Jus
  20. My 27 month old granddaughter has to have a mandatory blood test (CBC and testing for lead levels). How is this blood drawn? I'm assuming that a finger stick just won't cut it for a CBC. Anyone know what we can expect when we take her for it?
  21. That sounds like a problem with the doctor's office. First of all, he didn't LISTEN to you when you said you had a bullet in your jaw. Even I know you can't have an MRI if you have metal in or on you. And yes, I told the imaging center about the tiny little titanium marker in my left boob. Second of all, doesn't matter what time you're scheduled for your procedure, they CANNOT and WILL NOT do them without a written order. Until they have that in hand, you're just as well off to be elsewhere. Doctors office should have gotten that to the imaging center, or to you, BEFORE you were sche
  22. You would think vegetarians who don't smoke or drink would be healthy but my sister is living proof that just isn't necessarily true. She rarely, if ever, eats meat and when she does it is the leanest possible available. She eats very little of anything in fact, and cooks all of her food herself. She won't eat sweets, starches, breads or drink caffeine, sodas, or alcohol. She walks several miles a day. Her weight is probably on the low end of normal for her height. She is also a breast cancer survivor. She was in her late 40s when she had that. But I agree that healthy people who
  23. I agree with you! It's about time they did that. I'd also like to see policies available without maternity coverage for those of us females physically incapable of having more children. I'd also like to see policies cover more preventive care. Thankfully our current policy covers most preventive care for adults and children. It doesn't cover all it should cover though.
  24. Can't wait for the 5-0 remake. Loved the original! Who would be as good as Tom Selleck as Magnum? Good question. My choice would be Shemar Moore from "Criminal Minds". YMMV
