The next time you talk to her, if you do, tell her that she was suggesting to you that you defraud the federal government by filing a tax return that you don't qualify to file. And if I'm not mistaken, when we did have common law marriage in this state you didn't have one JUST because you lived together. If that were the case, my nephew didn't need to marry his long time live in girlfriend. Well, he didn't NEED to marry her but he wanted to marry her because they didn't consider themselves "common law" married. I found this in Ask.com: How do I become common law married? A

And WHERE is my burger? Oh never mind. I'll be down there in 10 days to get mine. I can wait that long, I guess. And looking forward to lunch at Captain Joey's, too. Hope you made it back before the flood hit.

And E-S is a nice guy, too. TideGirl, can't wait to meet you. We will have to meet at a Whataburger in Milton.

But SSI and Medicaid are different. Two different caseworkers would be involved. SS is WRONG, wrong, wrong about her filing tax returns with her boyfriend. They CANNOT legally do so. To file them together to satisfy SS would be illegal as well. The part about his income being part of the household income is likely correct, however.

But why should SHE (Kim404) have to PROVE that she doesn't have a common law marriage? Shouldn't people who are there to help KNOW that Georgia doesn't have common law marriage and KNOW that if you're not married or have a common law marriage that you can't file tax returns together? After all, isn't the person at Social Security a FEDERAL employee? A federal employee there to help. Sorry, lost my head. I don't think there is such an animal as a federal employee there to help. BTW, my sister is a federal employee and agrees with me.

The person who told you that you and your boyfriend should be filing taxes together knows NOTHING about filing status. Don't believe them. You are not a common law couple and you're not married so therefore you CANNOT file taxes together. You can't even file married filing separate. The best you two can do is file single (or one of you file head of household). If you speak to the person who told you that you two should be filing taxes together tell them that a tax preparer with over 15 years experience told you that you CANNOT file together. If she wants to know who exactly told you t

We could be neighbors in the future.

We have a lot more tornadoes in this area than they do hurricanes. Since 1995, only three have hit the area directly (Opal in 1995, Ivan in 2004 and Dennis in 2005). Coincidentally, all three hurricanes caused major damage HERE, including tornadoes. And they have tornadoes down there, too. They actually have more tornadoes than hurricanes. Look it up. However, I'm more than happy to put up with the possibility of hurricanes. I know the way to Atlanta. First tropical storm watch comes out, I'm on 65 to 85 and then back up here.

My problem with Trulia is their listings. I looked through the ones that came up on the link below and know for a fact that a few of those have either closed recently or are under contract. In fact, the one that is a short sale that has been under contract since October is listed. Another that we actually looked at and has just in the last two months closed is also on the list as being active. Let's see a show of hands. Who is planning to move to the Pensacola area? ME!!! ME!!! ME!!! I think we need a Pcom forum for people heading to the panhandle.
-
I can understand not wanting to wait for a short sale. We were interested in two. One took from mid-February 2011 until the first week of July 2011 to close. The other went under contract in October 2011 and has yet not closed.

We have one in our neighborhood that had a tax value in 2009 of $134,110. It sold at the end of March 2012 for $37,000. Traditionally, tax values here in our area of Cobb have been very close to market value because the neighborhood has been so stable. We're getting ready to put ours up for sale because we're ready and anxious to be in a one level house. We fully expect to take a beating though it will still be a profit over what we paid for it in 1978 ($40,000).
-
Yes, inventory is low. Houses are being snatched up as soon as they go on the market in some areas. Believe me. It IS happening!

The primary reason we're moving is to be on one level. We figured that since we needed to be on one level we might as well move where we want to spend the rest of our lives. Hopefully that will be close to Oyster Pile Landing in Bagdad. http://bagdadvillage.org/ For those of you looking to settle in Santa Rosa County (Milton, Jay, Navarre & Gulf Breeze) check this out: http://santarosavirtualmuseum.org/ Here is the town we're wanting to settle in: http://www.ci.milton.fl.us/

Out toward Perdido are some nice houses. Close to the base and the beach. There is also an area not far from the base, off Navy Blvd (I think) that has nice subdivisions. I can't remember the name but it's near a state park. I'll look on the map and see if I can remember the name of the park. I LOVE Gulf Breeze. It's a little out of our price range unless we moved to a mobile home. Hey Eym-Sirius, don't we frequent the same area of the panhandle? The area that has the longest pier on the Gulf of Mexico and has White Sands Blvd and Gulf Blvd?

Here is HUD. http://www.hudhomestore.com/Home/Index.aspx They list the homes but you must make an offer through a real estate agent. Same thing with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, the VA and banks. Here is Fannie Mae: http://www.homepath.com/ Here is the VA: https://va.equator.com/index.cfm? The banks holdings are a little more difficult to find but generally if you search their main website and then use search terms like "foreclosures" or "REO properties" you can find them. Like GeorgiaDawg said, many of the foreclosures are at such low prices because they have been stripped an

Years ago I stopped to buy gas. I bought $8 worth. Paid with a $10. The cashier gave me back $9. I told her "no, I bought $8 worth, not a dollars worth". She looked at me with a blank look on her face. Would NOT take back the money. Similar thing happened to my hubby. He was given too much change and the cashier got mad at him for bringing it to her attention and would not take back what she gave him that was too much.

I gotta agree with you on this. Not only was the water "murky" but it was nearly dark when the kid went missing. He was away from his family. I believe a lot in personal responsibility. It IS sad that he drowned, no doubt. I don't want anyone assuming that I don't believe that. It IS. However, many accidents are negligence on the part of the victim or someone close to them who could have saved them. Contrary to popular belief, most drowning victims do not flail their arms and cry for help.

One downside to the Pensacola area is the lack of jobs that aren't active military. And you're right, Pace has wonderful schools. Santa Rosa County is one of the highest rated school districts in the country. The drive from Pace to NAS Pensacola would be no worse than the drive from Dallas to Fulton Industrial. Atlantans spend WAY more time on their commute than even people who are stationed at Hurlburt and live in Navarre, or who are stationed at NAS Pensacola and live in Pace. To Dallas Red, is hubby being transferred to Pensacola (as in NAS Pensacola) or Whiting?

I'm an organ donor. I also have a cousin who is a transplant recipient (heart). Yep, I'll sign up. Doesn't cost anything to support the new tag.

With the drive from Milton to Pensacola or to Mary Esther it's not so much the distance, as it's roughly 20 miles, but it's the TRAFFIC! I-10 isn't generally that bad unless they are doing construction on one of the bridges. I  Milton.
-
Yep. Now HE is the bad guy because he stopped a child molester. Sad.

A word of warning about Pensacola in particular and Florida in general. The counties are HUGE! Escambia County goes from the Alabama line to the west of Pensacola (about 20 miles of so) to Alabama to the north of Pensacola (about an hour drive) to Santa Rosa County to the east of Pensacola (about a half hour drive) to the Gulf of Mexico. It's not like Paulding County. It's more like Paulding, Cobb, Douglas, Polk, Bartow and Cherokee with a bit of Fulton thrown in for good measure. It's city, inner city, suburbs and country. Santa Rosa County has an excellent school system as well.
-
Looks like we may have a whole Pcom contingency down there. Pensacola is varied so more info really is needed. Where exactly will you be living? Near the NAS? In Pace? Gulf Breeze? Milton? So many differences between areas. I will say that Pensacola is a pretty easy town to get around in.

Hmmmm. Let's see. All three of my daughters have been under psychiatric care, including two who have been inpatient. My sister in law goes in and out of Georgia Regional so often, she has her own wing there. I've been to counseling as has my husband. The person who needs help is my mother in law who is in deep denial and has passed blame to others (my now-deceased father in law) for HER failure to help my children AND HER OWN DAUGHTER! This was NOT a one-time, touch in the wrong place incident. This man was a predator! He raped children. And he didn't care if the victims were male or f

Hugs to you too my friend. We both have much to forgive and have to live our lives now.
