  1. I must have a knack because I tend to get good service no matter the reputation of the company. Maybe it's because I'm nice to them. Generally. Maybe I sound like their grandmother and they want to help me. Then again, maybe it's the fact that I used to DEAL with the public and I know what it's like at the receiving end of the abuse and I refuse to abuse them. Who knows? All I know is Aetna was great for us. We had them something like three different times. When hubby brought home insurance information from a job and it was for Aetna I jumped for joy. I migh
  2. OMG he SURE enjoys doing this!!
  3. The way these programs are run are the reason this healthcare act scares the HELL out of me. And the IRS is going to be part of it! Heaven help us. Truly. Seriously. Heaven help us. Better start praying NOW that this gets repealed. Those of us who are over 40 won't be around to protest in a few years. We will all have died because we were told that we didn't "qualify" for a bypass or a pacemaker or chemo. And we WILL be told what we have to do. Even if it means we HAVE to buy broccoli. Douglasville maybe? I'm trying to remember where I've been the last couple of weeks to ha
  4. Not me. Give me a Kia or a Hyundai or a Nissan. Better quality car for a whole lot less money.
  5. Interesting. Not all of them are companies but are in actuality brands. For example, Lexus is not a separate company. It is owned by Toyota. Dr. Pepper Snapple is Dr. Pepper. Sara Lee is owned by Hillshire. Cadillac and Buick are a division of General Motors. Quaker is part of Pepsico. Lincoln is part of Ford. But those parent companies, which truly are COMPANIES, didn't make the list. Thanks for posting! It makes for interesting reading. Side note: we never cared to do business with Proctor & Gamble but loved dealing with Abitibi Bowater. P&G makes more consumer it
  6. Absolutely!! Freedom of speech does not mean just those who we agree with are free to say what they want nor does it mean it has to be popular opinion. I may not agree with what someone says but they have as much right to state their opinion as I do. And I'll fight for their right to say it!
  7. You gotta be kidding me!! Aetna made the list and is the worst healthcare provider? No way. We got great coverage and great service from Aetna. I even got a personal call one day from a claims rep asking me if I understood how the referral system worked. I told her yes, I did. She said that there was a claim for my daughter going to see an orthopaedist and there was no referral or approval. I told her that there was one. I had a copy of it if she was interested. She was. I faxed it to her and the claim was paid that day. She was not in any way hateful or rude to me. She just though
  8. I so miss Parkway Hospital. We took our daughter to the ER there twice and they were wonderful!! I've had lab work and outpatient testing there. I love, love, love the Paulding Imaging Center. They have the nicest bunch of people working there. They get you in, get you out and on your way. About 13 years ago I had a blood clot in my right leg. My doctor sent me to Paulding Hospital to have a STAT ultrasound done. They didn't have a tech on duty at the time. They called one in. He was amazing! He took his time, explained everything that was going on, answered my questions and
  9. When I did observation in the classroom to become a sub, I was sent to my daughter's class. She didn't see me but one of her friends did. He held his tongue and held his tongue and held his tongue until he couldn't stand it any longer and said "Hey, M, your mom is here! Hi M's mom". He called me M's mom all through school. I did observation for being a sub when she was in maybe 3rd or 4th grade. The kid who noticed me graduated with her. They went ALL through school together and were great friends. I don't think she met Kareem until middle school and possibly not until high school. Th
  10. I'd love to give him a great big hug. I have tried to keep up with my daughter's friends as much as possible. When she told me she saw someone she knew on the news I said "oh gosh, what crime did they commit". She laughed and said "no crime. It was a feel good story about a vet. Kareem." I just about jumped up and down with excitement. I was glad to hear he made it home in one piece physically but really hate to hear he has PTSD. He is a sweet guy. And he was always so polite. "Yes, Mrs J" and "May I speak with M please, Mrs J?" Sometimes he just called me M's mom. A LOT of her
  11. http://www.11alive.com/news/article/241300/40/Disabled-veteran-turns-passion-into-profit He served his country and is now a self-employed motorcycle mechanic. He was also a good friend of my daughter during their years at McEachern. He's been to my house MANY, many times. I am very thankful he came home physically fine. He played football at McEachern, class of '99. Wonderful guy. I wish him all the best.
  12. I saw a new VA clinic but can't remember where. Not Smyrna because that's not a new one. This really is a NEW one. Wish I could remember where.
  13. Xrays certainly have their place in the chiropractic office. My bone tumor would not have been found had my chiropractor not had a xray machine and done the xray. I have a friend who installs and services xray equipment and he can't stand chiropractors because they use too high doses of radiation and too many exposures. Not just two too many exposures. Dozens too many exposures. He says this is all too common in chiropractic practices. He gets after me all the time for going to a chiropractor because he knows how they do xrays. I keep assuring him that mine does NOT do that. The l
  14. I sent some patients his way via Pcom. I ADORE him!! Yep, he was a member on here for a while and will be again if I have my way about it. I've been going to him since he was fresh out of Life University. He filled in for my regular chiropractor. When he opened his own practice, he PERSONALLY called me to tell me where he was. It's a good 20-25 minute drive for me to go to him but I have no hesitation about doing it. Did I mention I adore him???
  15. The whole reason I think premiums should be lower but the patient's cost higher. Discourages those taking advantage of "free" health care. If I have to pay $45 copay to see a doctor when all I have is a cold, and there is nothing they can do to treat a cold, it would make me think twice about going. And for heavens sake, let the patient know what the approximate cost will be to THEM BEFORE lab work, BEFORE writing a prescription, BEFORE ordering a test, BEFORE any procedure. My doctor wrote me a prescription for some pain patches the other day because I have chronic knee pain from ost
  16. I went to my chiropractor with hip pain about two weeks ago. He did a good exam, gave me a great adjustment but told me at the outset that if my hip pain was caused from bursitis, which he thought it was, there was nothing he could do to help it. He told me that I would need to go to my orthopaedist and get a cortisone injection. So far, the hip is better but I haven't ruled out the injection. Yeas ago, I sprained my ankle. My chiropractor took an xray and then told my mom to call THAT day to make an appointment with an orthopaedist because I had something else going on. It was a tumo
  17. I *thought* that was it but wasn't sure. Glad you have their info!!! Best of luck! I've considered talking to them myself but since I live in Cobb, I'd really rather deal with a place closer. I tried a temp agency in Kennesaw but that was a pointless trip.
  18. I can't remember the name but YES, there is a temp agency in Dallas. I *think* it's in Evans Mill Office Park (across from Hardy Chevy). Seems like it is Victory Staffing but don't quote me on that.
  19. He is quite a humble man, too. I've known him actually longer than I have known his wife. I always looked forward to seeing him. I don't go to him but go to another chiropractor. If I didn't go to the one I do, I'd go to Frank in a heartbeat. My chiropractor holds him in high regard. For one professional to hold another in the same profession in high regard says a lot.
  20. I must be in the minority here but I like men, dressed or undressed or in between. I don't care. I like 'em all. I do enjoy looking at a man dressed in a western style shirt, jeans and boots. I also enjoy looking at a man dressed in a very well fitting suit. I also enjoy looking at a man without a shirt (as long as he has broad shoulders). However, it's what is in his heart and his head that turns me on. He can be drop-dead gorgeous and a jerk and I don't care what he has, or doesn't have, on. A plain guy with a heart as big as outdoors and a brain to match with a killer sense
  21. I have never gotten anything other than excellent care at a Wellstar facility. In fact, I'm probably in the minority of people who prefer Paulding over Kennestone or even Cobb. Granted, I have only been to the lab and xray/outpatient testing there but they were fantastic. My mom was at Cobb during her final illness until she was transferred to Tranquility Hospice. Her care was excellent. I have a friend who installs and services xray equipment. He says there are a lot worse hospital systems than Wellstar. One in particular in neighboring TN.
  22. To a large degree, yes, they do. They generally don't mandate that you MUST do something. What they generally mandate is that you CAN'T do something. I don't want any governmental agency or insurance company to tell me that I MUST have colonoscopy or mammogram or blood work. I am at high risk for certain diseases and don't want the governmental agency or insurance company to tell me I CAN'T be screened or tested. I have a mammogram every year because I have a family history of breast cancer. I had a colonoscopy because I have a condition that slightly increases my chance of getting colon
  23. Most people don't realize how little money doctors actually make, especially the ones with solo practices. While they can have greater control over how they treat their patients, they can only treat so many patients. Insurance payments are not good, so while they may bill $150 for a visit, the vast majority of what they receive for that is the co-pay. I had bone graft surgery in 2006. The bill for everything--surgeon, follow ups, surgery center, etc--was well over $20,000. I think my insurance paid around $5000 and I paid something over $500, and the vast majority of that was co-pays
  24. I am so glad that my orthopaedist, my gynecologist and my dermatologist all REFUSED to sell their practices to Wellstar. They have admission privileges there but they still run their own practices for the good of their patients and not what is good for the bottom line. In fact, I can just imagine what my GYN had to say today about the healthcare ruling. I am glad I wasn't around her today. I know she is U-P-S-E-T about it. We talked about it last week. My orthopaedist will likely retire soon. He would have worked until he was bagged and tagged had the healthcare mandate not come
  25. Just IMO, if you wear a dress or skirt and blouse, DEFINITELY wear pantyhose. If you wear slacks, no pantyhose. It might be just me, but if you wearing a dress and you don't have on pantyhose, you look like you got dressed as an afterthought.
