  1. I eat very healthy. No partially hydrogenated, enriched, high fructose crap, no beef, mostly fresh organic foods. I stay as "close to the earth" as possible when it comes to my diet. But OMG, sometimes I get an uncontrollable craving for Twinkie and/or HoHo! There is no stopping that craving until I get my little mitts on one. Gotta give in once in awhile...even if it is a Twinkie.
  2. My problem is that I do my best thinking at night, lying in bed, trying to sleep. My brain just won't stop. Last night I found myself worrying about a friend's dog who resides in Kuwait, a friend I haven't heard nor talked to in over two years. How stupid, why am I thinking about a random dog 7,000 miles away at 2am? I tried Ambien but it stopped working after awhile. Melatonin works great for me if I only take it once or twice a week. Lately I've been not watching tv or using the computer when I'm in my room at night. I listen to annoying New age, waterfall type of cruddy "music" a
  3. Could her doctor refer to an educational class? When my Mom was diagnosed, the doctor sent her to educational classes and a nutritionist. I wonder if there is something like that available to her. She loved it because they focused more on what she can eat than what she couldn't. Wellstar offers a rather comprehensive program http://www.wellstar.org/medical-care/ongoing-care/pages/diabetes-services-classes.aspx A friend of mine attended these classes and she said the information was IMMENSELY helpful.
  4. Steven Tyler on the beach in his Speedo over Christmas was BAAAAAAAADDD. I wish I could erase the image from my head. I used to think he wasn't bad looking for his age. But after those photos, I realize it's just makeup and lighting.
  5. Does Turkish count? If so, try Cafe Instanbul 2 in Kennesaw. "Got Hookah?" http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/9/1604054/restaurant/Atlanta/Cafe-Istanbul-2-Kennesaw I've been to the one in Decatur, but not the new one in Kennesaw. There's an International Grocer on the the corner of 41 and Barrett that will do up a huge platter of Kafta and all the goodies to go along with it. Tastes just like I had in Kuwait City.
  6. Only a dummy lets someone sheeze in their boot in the first place.
  7. WORD NERD! Yes, I know how it's supposed to be used. But when does anyone ever use the correct word? I don't think I've ever heard anyone use the word, "swum". OK, except for TC, the Word Nerd
  8. It's like the word, "swum". Does anyone use that word...ever? OK, I just used it but probably for the first time since I learned about swim, swam, and swum back in elementary school.
  9. Bolognese sauce (made with ground Buffalo). It's so good! I've been sampling it every hour for the six hours while it's cooking in crockpot.
  10. My MIL in Maine has made me Fiddleheads and it was pretty good. It grows up North for a few weeks in the Spring. Basically, it's the curly part of a fern before it unfurls itself. When we lived in MA, there was a huge patch gorwing across the street along the river. People were constantly stopping to pick it.
  11. I won a bet over the spelling/pronunciation of "sherbet". My DH says "fustrated" and it makes me giggle. The problem is, the only time he uses the word, is when he's frustrated and peeved off. So it's not exactly the best time for me to be laughing at him. He's tried to pronounce it correctly and it's almost impossible for him. Guess it's that Maine accent coming out of him. He also says "pizzer" instead of "pizza" LOL
  12. Ooooh, that reminds me! Wholefoods/Harry's has a new wine that rivals Charles Shaw (Three Buck Chuck in GA lol). It's called "Three Wishes" and it's pretty good. I buy a case when I go to Harry's instead of making the further trek to Trader Joe's. I wish we could still buy the Three Buck Chuck in the package stores (thanks to a weird GA law. But Trader Joe's found a way to put a stop to it by placing a minimum on orders. It was great while it lasted though.
  13. Go to Ingles on Merchants instead. There's just some creepy people lurking in the parking lot. But other than that, not so bad.
  14. And I LOVE their $2 carwash with a fill up! If you get a Home Depot Fuel Rewards card, every $100 spent at HD, you get .10 off per gallon.
  15. I think I remember reading that one is owned by Germany's richest man, and the other is owned by his brother, Germany's second richest man.
  16. Actually, quite a few are full of unhealthy fats, salts and corn syrups. Read the labels, it's amazing whats in there. Not everyone can eat generic food off the shelf and need other options in their foods i.e. low sodium, low fat, vegetarian, gluten free, low residue, high fiber, no sugar, etc etc. Aldi has very little for that customer. Dairy, produce, and meat isn't necessarily "healthy".
  17. Too bad it wasn't a Trader Joe's instead. But that would never work in the area. If you are trying to eat healthy (low sodium, no HFCS, etc)or on a restricted diet you can forget about shopping at Aldi.
  18. It's been $2.99 at Home Depot for days now. I saw it right after I filled up for $3.15 elsewhere.
  19. I saw it since yeah, it was either GSN or 90210 on the Soap Network. She didn't even get the first question. Her Mom was funny though. It aired originally back in 2007.
  20. I don't see where anyone was advocating that the government step in and take over. Although, I didn't go back and re-read each post. The ads were placed by Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and the stats I posted came from their survey, not the government. I don't advocate the government taking over anything since it is entirely too bloated and incompetent to do so. I want to see parents, adults, teens, and even children educating themselves on a healthy lifestyle. I know a lot of adults who don't know how to read nutritional labels or even know how much sodium or calories they should
  21. That was a great news story! Just voted again. I wish Pubby would make this a sticky, or do some more stories on it as well. But as was said before, I guess Patch is the competition so the schools don't matter when it comes to the dollar. Sad. I don't even have kids, let alone kids in school yet I can see how important this is. It's so close, I hope Felix Familylights can pull through!
  22. Wow, that's GREAT! But now parents have to opt to buy the healthier version.
  23. It was built in 1932 and probably a sh*thole to her standards. If you look at some pics online, the houses on each side of hers are HUGE. Hers looked like shack comparatively. But I'm sure that land is worth $12M and then some.
