My personal thesis on the negative effects of ethanol
subby1 replied to subby1's topic in Business NEWS
You're welcome! While these problems keep us busy, I would much rather fix REAL problems, than to have to rebuild someone's carb every single year because of this. It's not fair to the customers, so as long as they follow the simple rules and solutions, this can be avoided. You don't have to travel to AL or Milledgeville and buy E-free gas...just use the stabilizer. And DRAIN the tanks at the end of every season to avoid the scaling problem on the tanks. -

Folks, before you drop a load of money on something like a gas tank for a mower, please check with me first. A used (but still good) tank from me would have cost you around $20. This is in part by the helpful people on pcom who have me come haul their broken mowers off their lots. They get the thing out of their way, and in many cases, it provides good, used parts for my customers. That's why I encourage every one to use a good product like STA-BIL in their gas. I have been using it ever since this began, and all of my equipment starts on the first pull or turn of the key, even after -

From a mechanic's standpoint, as far as gaining more business, this would be in our favor. From a decent man's view (as a small engine mechanic myself) I think it's only FAIR to share this info with the consumer. I may lose some work over it, but I would rather have REAL work than jobs that come in, knowing that the consumer had no idea. BTW, my policy is to educate every customer on the pitfalls before they leave my shop. While I love having their business, it gets worrisome when I have to fix the same machines every year because of this. It's not fair to the customer, but I can't warranty wo -

Marine engine mechanics saw this before we did, by about a year or so. Plus marine engines are a bit more complex, and require more labor, so they are the ones screaming the loudest. Imagine what 5% MORE of this crap will do???? (E-15, coming soon!) -
As with most things, it's always going to be a work in progress. Perfection eludes us all. (I know I heard that somewhere!)

Just this season alone, I am seeing things never seen before....problems resulting from ethanol in outdoor power equipment- PART 1- PROBLEMS WITH ETHANOL 1. Scaling- this ia a problem that is now occurring with the ethanol in today's gasoline. "Scaling" is what we refer to as a film of junk that is lining plastic gas tanks on riding and push mowers. I have used every method known to clean the tanks, yet, as the scaling erodes into the fuel, it sinks to the lowest level- at the carburetor. If I take the gas line off the carb and let it flow out, there's about 1-2 oz of what I call "tea"

If Pubby would allow me....Pcom is in cahoots with google searches. Ergo, when there are topics that could be "gritty", using the password option eliminates the gritty threads from the search. Appearance is everything, and using passwords on certain "touchy" subjects gives REAL pcommers the option to "have it out" with each other without drawing global attention to the negative aspects.

Very touchy subject for me. I tell my own kids (2 girls) that I love them, often, but not to the point that the phrase becomes a ritual. It took me until I was about 40 yrs old to tell my own mom, "I love you". I don't think I have ever told my dad that...why? Because there was never any question that we all loved each other. My father raised me and my brother to shake hands with men, including him. He's always been a man's kind of man. "men shake hands", was his philosophy, and so that's how it was. The ONLY time my dad HUGGED us and said he loved us was when his mother died, and it scared th

I would certainly agree with that! As a dad I finally got tired of pulling my hair out trying to get my wife to allow what was suitable for my kids to wear.

I am not sure if this is handled through the Real Estate Agents, or through the banks that have taken over the homes. But, if anyone could point me in the right direction, I am interested in providing competent and affordable landscaping services to keep the properties nice and groomed, to help raise the value of the homes the agents are trying to sell. I perform good, detailed work, and I have all the equipment necessary to get the jobs done. If anyone in this market would be interested, please call me at 678-315-8794, or PM me, or email me at glennjiles@comcast.net. Thank you. Glenn

AWESOME Riding Mower For Sale - $650 cash (reduced)
subby1 replied to subby1's topic in Business NEWS
Oh yeah...I forgot to put a pic on here! Duh! I would go as low as $650. I have a LOT of time invested in it though, including a newer hood, and other things, so I could only do a cash only deal. Not in financial condition to trade for anything right now. -
Craftsman, Big Boy Riding mower. 17 HP Briggs Turbo Cooled Transaxle, Automatic drive, new blades, carb, all filters, etc. pretty much new everything. Runs like a top, and cuts great. Only missing the hood, which was a little banged up, so I just took it off. It won't hurt the mower at all without it and they can be ordered online if need be. Aside from that, this is a mower that would serve someone well for a very long time. I'll take $450 cash, and that's a steal for this quality of mower. Tires hold air great, and everything is in perfect running condition. $450.....no more pushing,

I was gonna say....I never had to take a class either. However, I was among the "first" of the massive lay-off's due to the housing bubble bursting. It started with residential civil engineers like myself- we were dropping like flies. In fact, we were placed into a category that basically stated, "this field of work basically no longer exists"....to paraphrase. After most of the engineering firms went down, then it was a few months later before it trickled down to the actual construction workers in the field. It was unlike anything I had ever seen in my life (including that "tiny" problem

Similarly, I taught my oldest daughter how to change her oil, and she's watched me do the brakes and other things - she even knows how to repair certain lawn mower engines. But most of all, she KNOWS when there's a problem with her car, she let's ME look at it, and I usually fix it myself...while she watches and helps out.
