I'm sad about him leaving. I don't often watch him, but I will see clips of the intro portion where he does his commentary on the news. He is a VERY savvy dude. And he is - for a liberal - pretty even-handed with liberals and conservatives, and won't shy away from thumping a liberal for doing something stupid if he thinks they need it. He's just flat-out funny, IMHO. But then, I have always loved the warped, sarcastic humor folks...

My cousin who used to live in Seattle says many of the federal parks in the West now are overrun by drug peeps growing marijuana, etc., and general unsavory types such as 1% bikers, et al. Anybody else heard that?

I've seen as much criticism from the left as I have from the right on the Williams thing. Bill Maher, as well as the journalists who serve overseas in danger zones, have been VERY critical of him. And he cancelled the Letterman appearance. I'm still 55-45 thinking he's gonna skate. But it may depend on whether some other story comes along to get him off the front page. Some wag said Steve Kroft should send Williams a fruit basket on account of the Williams story got the lurid Kroft affair out of the news. My mother said on 9/11 that the happiest person that day was Gary Condit.

How marvy! That trip is on my wish list, only I want to start in San Diego and follow the PCH to the Canada border. I've been to Washington and Oregon and they are LOVELY states but I would like to explore the coastline of both. I could live in Oregon.

Wow...that was a troubling story, but while she may have done it to boost her own image (although oddly enough it didn't strike me that way), her saying all that puts BK in a better light vis a vis her money-grubbing family members' motives. Bless her heart.
