I worked with a woman that is going through this with her daughter. By the age of 2, her daughter could say less than 20 words and really wasn't interested in learning any new ones. They had her tested and they determined that she had a "serious impairment." BUT, that's not the end of the world, they have been working with a speech language pathologist a couple of times a week since August and they've seen her dramatically improve.

Yep - it's Pubby's world - we just get to visit... Pubby: Gestational age can be determined via traditional noninvasive ultrasound. It's when gestational age is very close to 20 weeks that more measures may have to be taken. As for the risks of my having that 1 in a 1000, my princess is one shot in a million - I took that chance with her and it paid off, so I'm perfectly willing to stand up for those other 1 in a 1,000 babies!

Based on this legislation (if it is enacted) she will have the choice to "terminate" a pregnancy up until 20 weeks in Georgia for any reason that she chooses. If she changes her mind and decides to terminate after that, she will have to find another state within which to accomplish that.

The your wife should take the steps necessary to make sure that she doesn't get pregnant in the first place....

The bill does not take that chance away from her. The bill allows termination after 20 weeks, it has to be done in a hospital or other surgical facility, and has to be done in a way to minimize any pain to both the mother and the child. It took me 14 years to have my one princess - so I can relate to that woman, trust me on that!

My statements are based on what I was told by doctors - I didn't google the information. The perinatal specialists that I saw on a bi-weekly basis throughout my pregnancy told me that until I reached 20 weeks, the baby wasn't considered "viable" - that was their term, not mine. This term was repeated by my OB and each time I had to go to the ER. I first heard my daughter's heartbeat at 10 weeks -- at that point, she was my child and I was willing to do whatever it would take to save her life. No, you're mistaken. I really agree with this legislation and think that it's nice that we're actually updating legislation on this issue based on medical conclusions and not on emotion. I will remember this in November and will vote accordingly, just as I have voted accordingly in the past.

Use the same argument and substitute people on welfare, homeless, elderly, democrats, etc.... Medically speaking, I was told that the princess was viable (a baby) at 20 weeks (and this was 5 years ago). SO, considering the medical opinion of every medical specialist and ER doctor that I saw throughout my pregnancy, if my daughter was deemed "viable" at 20 weeks, then measures should be taken to protect her at that point. This bill clarifies that and requires doctors to take appropriate steps to determine the gestational age of the baby before measures can be taken one way or the other.

Treading very lightly here in order to keep the topic open, but both (according to this legislation) are capable of feeling pain and responding to stimuli (among other things). Who is more valuable therefore is an emotional decision, not a medical one. This bill seeks to protect a baby and to make sure that doctors determine the gestational age of the baby before any measures are taken.

Read the bill - it seeks to protect the baby and still gives doctors the ability to terminate a pregnany in life threatening situations. 20 weeks is the point now at which doctor's will do something to prevent a miscarriage, it just makes sense that it also be the point at which lifesaving measures are taken to protect the baby.

Please read the bill - it does not prevent the termination of a pregnancy in life-threatening situations to the mother or the baby. Wow, people are actually against protecting "viable fetuses" (BABIES) at 20 weeks. The sad part is that during my high-risk pregnancy, I wanted something done to make sure the baby was protected at every single stage (even the earliest weeks), but was told that they wouldn't do anything to stop a miscarriage until I had reached 20 weeks.

Then what are you saying? Most of these "kids" are 17-18 years old. If no one has ever told them that there are serious consequences for destroying someone else's property is wrong by now, chances are they're not going to get it unless the punishment is severe enough to have an impact on them. So, I say expell them, let them get their GEDs.
