  1. We live in historic Hiram now. I've been out here in Paulding Co since May of 1992 ...lived in the S. Pauldling area then. Over the last 20 years out here, I've lived just off Hiram Suide and just down from PCHS, and now here. Out of all of them, I like where we are now the best...quiet, convenient to town when I need it, and great police protection just down the road . Oh, I'm in the Hornet's Nest....right here at the elementary school and within a few miles (as the crow flies) from Hiram High.
  2. There is a sign in my yard for this man and a vote on my ballot for him. I have worked with Mr. James and I have all the confidence that there is to be had that Mr. James will work hard and do the best he can for the citizens of Paulding County.
  3. Thanks. It is hard to believe that your oldest and I just hit the 24 yr mark of being out of high school. You can imagine the looks we get when the 26 year old step daughter is home and she, our 18 year old, and our 6 yr old are all calling me mom.
  4. Thank you. I will be calling you. We are planning on driving up there for PIR. I don't want to be held to someone else's schedule (having to catch a plane back home) when it comes to seeing my son after all these weeks of being away from him. I think A school, Power school, and Prototype school will be much easier for all of us because of the communication factor. I'm taking pictures of Everything and pasting them into his letters. That is the best way I can think of to truly keep him apart of life here. Please feel free to share any other advice you have.
  5. Thank you. Congrats to you and your Sailor. I'm waiting on his box now and this his letter telling he his PIR date. I'm expecting it to be Labor Day weekend. From reading on Navyformoms.com, it looks like he will be in a 900 division and thus ship 2. His time in the Band of Gold will go with him into the Navy...lol. Thanks for the advice on where to stay. I need the trip up there to be as budget friendly as I can get it. We've had almost a year to prepare for this and I never dreamed it would be this hard on me. By the time I get students back, he will be half way through....the
  6. As long as it gets out of here in time for the Powder Springs festivites/ fireworks, I'm okay with it. We need the rain.
  7. Thank you. I will never be far from my Hiram Band of Gold. I'm hoping my 1st grader will follow in her brother's footsteps in those regards.
  8. Our son took his Oath this past Monday and arrived later that evening at the Naval Base in Great Lake, IL. He will graduate from boot camp towards the end of Aug./ first of Sept. From there he will begin his Nuke schooling near Charleston, SC. This gives us a whole new perspective on the 4th of July. Thank you to all of the current and retired Service men and women and their families for the sacrifices you make for the freedoms of those that live in this country. GO NAVY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Thank you for doing this for our military personnel. My son leaves for boot camp on July 2 and I'm already understanding how important letters and allowed items from home are.
  10. :clapping::clapping::clapping::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::good::good::good: I could not agree with you more. My brother and brother in law have both been to the Middle East during war times. My brother has let me know that he has had some problems with some of the things he saw while he was over there. This also terrifies the Everything out of me being that my son leaves for Navy Boot Camp in 17 days. I'm praying with all my might that he will be kept on his submarine and out of harms way.
  11. Thank you. This makes Perfect since as to why the quote they gave me over the phone was MUCH cheaper than the one I got online. I told them that we were renting it to go our son's Navy bootcamp graduation. My condolences for your family.
  12. Thanks everyone. We are flying because we want to do a little site seeing while we are up there and I don't want to be held to anyone's schedule except for the Navy's. I have been checking gas prices along our trip to get a decent idea as to what gas is going to cost us. I'm also on navyformoms.com which has a plethera of information regarding hotels to and not to stay in up there in regards to quality, price, and location. Right now, for the 3 of us, I'm looking at a budge of $2000-$2500 which includes Everything....gas,rental car, food, hotel, souvenirs, etc.. If we need to cut
  13. Our son leaves for Navy bootcamp on July 2 and will be graduating around Labor Day weekend. We will not know the exact date until about 3 weeks after he leaves. We are looking at renting a small SUV to drive up and back to Great Lakes, IL. I just have this fear of our vehicle breaking down and us being stuck in a bad situation. If we rent a car, it is a simple phone call and someone brings us another one and we go on our way. I called to today, and got a price of $270.12 with taxes included to rent a small SUV. This includes unlimited milage. This also includes a discount for being a gove
  14. One of my dads live here so there is no need for him to stay with us when he does come to visit, which is not often and we are lucky if he stays more than about 30 min.. My other dad lives in FL and comes to visit about once every 6 months or so. He does stay with us,but he only stays a couple of nights. DH's parents live 3.5 hours away and they visit pretty frequently. When they come over they usually stay a week or so. They will eventually move in with us, so these long visits are kind of a way to get used to all of us living under one roof. I have not been to FL to see that dad in abo
  15. I certainly hope that you didn't take "my capacity." the wrong way. I just know that you don't work at the BOE and you don't know as much as I think many people expect you to know. I meant the phrase with the up most respect. As a teacher in this county, it is nice to have someone like you to answer questions honestly and try to get answers for us as quickly as you do. It is often/sometimes difficult for those of us in the trenches to understand the decisions that are made at the higher levels. I have had a child in this system for the last 13 years and I still have another 12 to go. I
  16. You have Never failed to answer any question that I've had about anything that someone in your capacity could answer...Thank you. I don't have much road frontage, but what I do have gets A LOT of traffic. I'll be by one of the places that you have dropped off signs at and pick one up to put in my yard. Thank you for all you do,
  17. Yes we are and we LOVE our trains. Thank you.
  18. The e mail said something about a fire.
  19. We like it here in the historic area. It is close enough to everything you need, but yet you don't hear all the noise and such from the 4 lane. Being as close as we are, right down from the police dept., we like the extra protection...being that the police are always going in front of our home.
  20. What is near this area? We heard the sirens when were outside and then I came in the house to see an e mail about avoiding the area. Just want to make sure we do. Thanks.
  21. We purchased a home in downtown Hiram this past Sept.. We will get billed for Hiram city and Paulding county taxes?
  22. I have had a child at Hiram High for the last 4 years. I think that is another school that needs to have more than the one road to exit the school from. Just like the NPHS campus, it would be very bad for someone who needed to get an ambulance in or out during dismissal, after a football game, or at a time like graduation. The address of the school is in Hiram so you can get to Hiram High from Hiram.
  23. We had no problem getting out at Hiram's graduation. It probably helped that we parked in the handicapp area, but I was really surprised at how easy it was to get out.. I am not the Proud mom of a Hiram High graduate. My boy has 35 days left at home before he leaves for MEPS and then to boot camp on July 2.
