  1. Move along... Nothing to see here The helicopter was out checking the power lines, unrelated to police activity. It just so happened we had a burglary in progress call in that same area (Hwy 61 at Winndale Rd). One suspect ran into the woods before we arrived. After a brief search of the area that suspect was located and arrested along with the suspect that had remained on scene. All of this happened before any type of Nixle message was needed.
  2. Here is a quote from the article that Dallas-Hiram Patch put up a little while ago. “We asked if they were breaking into [the vehicles]. They said, ‘No, we didn’t break anything. We just pulled on the door handles, and if the door opened, we went through the vehicle,” Acree said. “There is going to be a lot of people out there that don’t know their vehicles were rummaged through because they were left unlocked. So my advice to everyone is to keep always your car locked, and if you have an alarm, set it.” Here is the link to the entire article.
  3. Now that just makes entirely too much sense!!! Unfortunately things are not the way they use to be. We must all do our part to protect our families and our property.
  4. We located a 15 year old juvenile with multiple warrants out of Forsyth County. After a brief foot chase and search, the suspect was located in a sewer drain and arrested.
  5. There should be more of Shane's story at some point today during the noon news broadcast on WSB-TV.
  6. I am just now seeing this topic. The facts are close to being straightened out it seems. Let me add that NO adult at the school (parent, teacher, administrator, etc.) saw the person that the kindergarten students reported to them. However, swift action was taken by the school for the safety of the students and we were contacted. We flooded the area with a number of deputies while another deputy began to interview the children that reported seeing the person. There were several different versions of events and descriptions given by the students. Nothing was found that could confir
  7. Holy Smokes! You mean you guys feel the same "slap in the face" when another chiropractor is arrested as we do when another police officer is arrested? Well, I know exactly how you feel. However, if it makes you feel any better, I am not going to stop using or providing law enforcement services anytime a "bad apple" is identified just like I am not going to quit going to the chiropractor anytime soon!
  8. It is obvious and has been for years that police will be viewed in a negative light by someone every time that force is used. Sometimes it is just a few. Other times, when the use of force is truly questionable, a large group of people may feel negatively about the officer or police as a whole. With that said, the good, law-abiding citizens can rest assured that we as police officers will maintain guard on the line that separates you from the bad in our society. We will continue to protect your safety and respond with force when necessary to accomplish this mission. And then we will
  9. Thank you for posting this. This will be our 3rd year putting this summit on. You will not want to miss the information that is provided; especially if you have children or grandchildren. I hope to see you all there.
  10. Ok, I don't know all of the details or where this has happened. However, I will say that threats are a hard thing for a police officer to act on. Most of the time the threats are not made in the presence of the police officer and there is no "evidence" that the threats were made (i.e. a recording). It's not like an "assault" type call where we show up and someone has a black eye. We can usually look at that person and say, "Yup, they've been hit" (AKA - a clue in the FBI academy). In a case like this, where it is "he said she said", the victim is advised how to obtain an arrest warra
  11. "Pubby" must have lost my cell phone number since I did not get a call to confirm his information. I called and talked to him so he knows I will be giving him a hard time on here. The accident this morning involved a Paulding County Marshal's Bureau officer and vehicle. Both drivers were injured and transported to area hospitals. The Georgia State Patrol will handle the accident investigation due to the involvement of the county vehicle. How the accident occurred will be determined by their investigation and released by GSP when appropriate. The incident this morning at Dobbi
  12. One thing that I don't participate in is back and forth arguments on a thread. I posted a very detailed response and even posted a follow up for some clarification. As I stated earlier, some will agree with the decisions while others will disagree. We respect both opinions. We deal with all complaints on an employee’s use of their issued vehicle on a case by case basis to determine if disciplinary action is required.
  13. The same rules apply that would apply to any other citizen "ride-a-long." "Ride-a-longs" are rare but approved on a case by case basis. The citizen is typically covered by insurance as long as they were approved by the sheriff to be in the vehicle. The insurance is already a substantial amount simply due to the nature of the job we perform and the high probability of damages and injuries that we will see. There has not been an increase because of any citizen ride-a-longs.
  14. There are a number of reasons why you may see deputies dropping off children at schools throughout Paulding County. Rather one would agree or not, we get called out on a regular basis to homes in order to assist with “parenting” issues. There are times were we have to deal with “unruly juvenile” complaints when a child has refused to go to school. In some cases, a deputy may end up transporting that child to school with the parents consent. In other cases, deputies may locate and pick up juveniles attempting to “skip school” in order to hang out with friends. Those juveniles also may be t
  15. The helicopter was cancelled due to very minor injuries. The alleged suspect was located in another county by deputies from our warrants division and taken into custody without incident.
  16. Here is the press release that was sent out earlier. I don't remember any additional information in the letter that was sent out by the school. For Immediate Release Handgun Found on School Grounds Paulding County The Paulding County Sheriff's Office has charged an 11 year old male juvenile with being in possession of a weapon on school grounds after school administrators alerted the sheriff's office that the student was in possession of a handgun. A deputy with the sheriff's school resource office responded to East Paulding Middle School and found the .40 caliber hand
  17. That is strange. I received a copy of the letter from the Board of Education that went home to the parents from the principal of the school explaining what took place and the outcome.
  18. I would like to clarify for everyone that this event is not being organized by the public safety agencies so that the public can come thank us for what we do. This event has been organized by an outside entity known as Paulding Public Safety Appreciation (PPSA), Inc. This group is made up of citizens from the business and civic sectors of our county. The Paulding County Sheriff's Office has hosted an annual Crime and Safety Awareness Day in the past in the Dallas Wal-Mart parking lot. This was a day for public safety agencies to interact with the public in a positive environment and s
  19. The Paulding County Detention Center currently has 16 crews of inmates assigned to work detail jobs outside of the jail. There are several more inmate work detail crews that are assigned to jobs inside the jail. A “crew” consist of anywhere from 1 to 20 inmates depending on the job. The inmate work force is assigned to several different jobs throughout the county in order to provide the labor at a tremendous savings to the taxpayers. Two of the outside work crews are assigned to pick up trash on the county right-of-ways. Another crew is assigned to the Department of Transportation to
  20. I am working with the media to clarify the confusion about the school lockdown. Deputies arrived at the school this morning searching for the student as the buses and cars were arriving to drop kids off. The school was not actually placed on lockdown. The student was located off campus and brought voluntarily to the sheriff's office. The student has been charged and the investigation is continuing.
  21. That is already in the works. There may be other surprises in store that day too.
  22. We have added this event, press release, and printable flyer to our website. Check it out!
  23. For Immediate Release Remembering the Heroes September 11, 2001 (Paulding County, GA) On Saturday, September 11, 2010, the Paulding County Sheriff's Office and the Paulding County Fire Department will hold a ceremony at Mt. Tabor Park honoring the men and women who gave their lives to help others on one unforgettable day, 9/11/2001. On September 11, 2001, thousands of lives were lost throughout the United States as a Terrorist Attack was launched against Americans. There were nearly 3,000 people killed on this day. Hundreds of them were first responders, heroes, runni
