  1. I think that we may have jumped ahead of this by putting out notices about this "hoax" email before many people had a chance to forward the message. Fortunately, a few people forwarded me the email for verification before they sent it to everyone in their address book. This gave me a chance to put the rumors to rest before fear and panic took over. Here is the alert that we sent out. This alert contains the email message that was circulating.
  2. The suspect from the Old Cartersville Rd area was located and arrested earlier today. Deputies will be in the area throughout the evening gathering additional information and possible evidence in the case. The press release that was mentioned above is not related to the Old Cartersville Rd incident.
  3. Emergency personnel were called to the residence in reference to a medical call. They arrived to find the victim deceased. A routine death investigation is being conducted since the death did occur outside of a medical facility. That is not to suggest that there is something "suspicious" about this incident. Death investigations are always conducted as a precaution in deaths that occur outside of a medical facility or medical care. There is no immediate concern for the public's safety in that area as a result of this incident.

  9. UPDATE I spoke to Nixle Technical support a few minutes ago. They advised me that the problem has been fixed. They informed me that they are preparing a mass email to be sent out to explain and apologize for the inconvenience that this caused.
  10. I too was one of the ones receiving all of the notifications for Michigan's weather. I contacted Nixle's customer support over the weekend. They were checking to see what the problem was. I emailed my direct contact person with Nixle this morning. I am waiting to hear back on rather or not the problem was corrected.
  11. I see that this question has already been answered. I will post this additional information for those that are interested. The answer to this question is answered in Chapter 7 of the DDS Driver's Manual under "Traffic signals and signs." I will copy and paste the text below. Traffic Signals and Signs Traffic signals are placed at intersections to control the orderly movement of traffic and to prevent accidents. All drivers, including bicyclists, and pedestrians must obey these signals except when an officer is directing traffic. If a traffic signal is not functioning at an inte

  15. I don't see why he would not be able to sound the siren in any of the vehicles on display. Also, K-9 will be on hand at this event. We have added a few extra static displays to this year's event. One addition is the Blackhawk helicopter that will be on display. Be sure to make your plans to attend this special event to see first hand the equipment and vehicles used by public safety and military officials and the people that operate them.

  18. The Paulding County Sheriff's Office was called to respond to Ragsdale Elementary in reference to a suspicious person. Once deputies arrived, they located the individual and discovered that he was a construction worker that was legally on the property and carrying a measuring tape. Deputies have returned to service.
  19. It is not uncommon for another deputy to provide assistance on a traffic stop. This has unfortunately become a common practice in many areas due to possible dangers that every traffic stop poses. Deputies and police officers are at a disadvantage each and every time they approach a vehicle. There are many unknown factors that play in to each traffic stop. It is very fortunate for everyone involved that you were on your way to your toddler's day care, and you did not ultimately pose a greater threat to the deputies that were involved. It is unfortunate that the deputy does not have a way o
  20. One correction to a typo above.... This is also to clarify some of the other speculations that have been circulating. This complant was made to the Paulding County Sheriff's Office by a private investigator that was hired by one or more of the companies whose "name brand" was involved. That complaint initiated the investigation that ultimately led to an arrest. These types of companies hire private investigators to track down counterfeit goods. They take action by getting the local law enforcement agency involved when they find items that they confirm are counterfeit.... as in
  21. The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office Explorer program provides a community service organization for anyone between the ages of 14-21 interested in a law enforcement career and to allow young men and women to better understand the role of law enforcement in today's society. The Explorer Post also provides members with training and experience in leadership, teamwork and positive self-confidence. By identifying interested youth and exposing them to law enforcement, the Explorers Post is used to attract possible future deputies. Meetings are held every Thursday night from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.
  22. Wow!!!! You folks had me worried for a second. I had to call to make sure that I would still have a job in the morning. I did just talk to Sheriff Gulledge. I can assure all of you that this is indeed only a rumor. There is no such decision being considered. The sheriff has also said that he would not allow layoffs that would jeapordize the overall safety of Paulding County. Gotta love rumors.....

  24. I see this thread has already been answered. This young male and female were visiting my neighbor the other evening when I arrived home from work (in a patrol car and in uniform). Once they finished with my neighbor they came down to my house. Of course, at this point I am curious as to what these people are doing. My wife says that I was pretty rude at first. I considered my demeanor as more defensive and inquisitive as to what they were up to in the neighborhood…not “rude.” The above post is accurate. We are seeing more and more door to door sales taking place. I believe it
