IS ISLAMOPHOBIA ACCELERATING GLOBAL WARMING?
gpatt0n replied to Jamie Weaver's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Gosh, I suppose you would need a working reading comprehension rate of somewhere above the 10th grade to decipher that one. The general thrust is first, academic gobblegook of manner that I'm sure surprised the folks at MIT. The real idea is that because we're islamophobic, we're burning more and more fuel knowing that while there are some Christians and Jews who will suffer when the seas rise ten feet, the displacement of the Muslims in countries from the gulf (Dubai, etc.) to Bangladesh, will be at a rate of 5 or 10 to one. Sinking the coasts will really truck up the Muslims more th -
You don't need to say the word bigotry to bring it up. To wit: If you don't recognize that as a bigoted statement, you'd deaf. Hardly, I'm just amazed at the incidence of tone-deafness on pcom sometimes. pubby

Because of the general confusion and because splitting the topic would add to the confusion, I'm just going to close this topic in an effort to avoid further confusion. pubby -
It is not hatred. It is a reasoned lack of high respect for those who choose to live the life of a the bigot ... even if it is closeted and exhibited by their following a bigot ... or maybe a person playing a bigot. That said, I would only class a little less than 30 percent of those who subscribe to conservatism or republicanism as bigots. Finally, I would class somewhere upwards of 20 percent of Democrats as bigots. Bigotry and small mindedness being pretty much endemic, I think that the percentages of the unaffiliated (party-wise) are probably higher. I would, by definition sugges

We all know the weaknesses of nuclear, solar, wind and even hydro. In the past decade we've moved from coal to gas as we expanded access to domestic natural gas largely through fracking. This is and was considered an interim approach. What we've got to do is leave the majority of known reserves of fossil fuels in the ground. We will continue to use fossil fuels but decreasing their use as we go into the future is a critical need for the sake of our environment. It won't happen overnight but it must certainly happen. There are a variety of possible approaches. The US, along with I thi

We let it happen. We let these jokers con us. Oh, and if you look at the numbers, in those places where you can't walk from one side of a district to another in a day on foot - i.e. the more rural - most of the representatives are Republican. In fact, the vast majority of rural Congressmen are Republican these days. Bottom line, it is our fault, we elected them. pubby

Where, oh where are all the little minds who proclaim the nobility of burning fossil fuels? Maybe they are looking at their 401Ks and wondering how to divest from Exxon Mobile or Halliburton. Nah ... they're not smart enough to do that; they'd rather renew their rants against solyndra ... which failed because the costs of PV dropped faster than expected. Oh, and they will absolutely turn inside out if and when fusion becomes viable due to advances in superconductors which means that smaller, more powerful magnets, are poised to turn this energy source into a viable alternative almost on a

That is what Dick Nixon thought ... and why he stopped pushing rehab and ramped up the war on drugs ... figured he'd get those liberal little bastards who are such smarties smoking their dope. Reagan doubled down on the change but the nations puritans, who have been against any one having fun forever (it used to be against the law to dance, you know.), were on board from the get go. pubby

I know ... and and will agree it often makes sense to give a small businesses a $500 tax break. What doesn't makes sense and may be either stupidity or corruption is how you do it. Basically you don't have to say, "lets cut all corporate taxes for everyone." You can provide some progressiveness to the corporate tax code (as we have to the individual tax code) and, for instance, even provide a $500 across the board tax credit to all businesses. The point is there are ways to provide equitable tax relief to the small, struggling businesses without awarding Koch Industries a $500,0

I'm thinking maybe he doesn't have a secret swastika tatooed on his ass because to most astute observers, he's the real deal when it comes to ubber conservative laffer-based supply-side economics that call for cutting taxes on the wealthy and try to make it up by increasing sales taxes on the poor. pubby PS: You all do know that Koch Industries HQ is in Kansas and the tax cutting of Brownback has been a win fall for the billionaire bros. .

I didn't move it radiohead It is local news and we have a forum for that. BTW: the flyer shows that Ms. Liberty does have a libertarian streak and the flyer copies social media posts that suggest she is intrigued by the profit motive associated with distribution of weed for recreation. I suppose one might, for instance, remain faithful to their wife but be intrigued by the buxom blonde who moved in next door. So, saying it is evidence of her position can only be inferred based on her ideology. pubby PS: Mods ... the tradition has been local politics is in an open forum like -

Have they? I know I didn't set any invisible. I suspect you are checking recent topics and haven't turned the forum on. Is that possible? BTW: I've not seen your posts get mentioned to mods either. pubby PS: It is possible - I know because I've done it - that I write something and think I post it only to discover I didn't complete the process and closed the browser or shut down the computer too soon.

Unless you live off Bankhead Highway in Fulton County, that is not a likely event. Still, I know this type of event is possible and for those who are inclined toward fear, it is a great selling point justifying getting a gun 'for personal protection.' I too hate to see anyone lose a child. Part of my outspokeness comes from the loss of my best friend when I was a kid to such a senseless accident to a gun kept close for personal protection. Your gun safe idea actually does have merit. Indeed, it is possible to make firearms that can be fired only by the owner. The electronics in sma -

People have guns because they've been sold on the idea they provide protection. For them to perform that function, they can't be in a locked vault with a trigger lock and ammunition in another secure location. There is just no way that firearm can be assembled in time to effectively deal with an intruder. If proper care is taken to keep them from kids, they are useless. The point is that if you have children, you probably ought not have loaded guns as they are about 100 times more likely to get a hold of your gun than you are to face an intruder. Fortunately, a tragedy doesn't happe -
President Carter was not a complete and total failure. He was a micro-manager who was ahead of his time on issues from solar power and energy to peace in the middle east. The oil barons, who have distorted the public debate since before Carter and continue to do so - their scientists knew of global warming from the consumption of fossil fuels going back to the 1960s and the threat it posed to their industry - and saw Carter's leadership on energy as an existential threat that had to be crushed. In other words you've been brainwashed. pubby
