  1. The hammer hasn't dropped yet. I'm hoping I've done all the things they need done but even then, moving a 70 GB web site from one server to another over the Internet is no piece of cake. Sure, it will compress down to about 40 gigs ... but you're still talking about a 6 hour transfer before you even get started. gpatton PS: I'm suspecting that we will 'close' the forum during the transfer and upgrade. We don't need new posts being written to the database and the like.
  2. Folks, PCOM is moving to a new server and that move is imminent - i.e. with in the next 24 hours. How long the site will be offline during the process is a guess ... and when we return, we'll have a somewhat different look. Any posts made after you see this may or may not make the cut for inclusion to the new site. See you on the other side. gpatton
  3. I think what you're observing is a lack of confidence in government that stretches from the national and international to the state and local. My understanding is that perfection eludes everyone and everything and progress is incremental and sometimes ugly. Others seem to think that their leader is the picture of perfection - you can tell by the golden aura coming from the furniture, bathroom fixtures and make up - and anyone and anything else is just too, too, to be tolerated. One POV suggests that man can compromise and make the bad better through practicality and pragmatism. Tho
  4. Given the difference in real estate values between then and now, I think there should be a substantial difference. I.e. they got a distressed commercial property when they bought the strip and land ... added the two sound stages ... and because of Paulding's location within the range of locations that don't require overnight or special mileage compensation for those working in the industry, the powers that be thought that a studio would be a good lure for the county. Things were slower but I think that the vision of those folks in the IBA not only shows it was a prudent investment - I
  5. Sheriff’s Office MournsK-9 Verro (Paulding County, GA) It iswith a very heavy heart that we announce thepassing of one of our law enforcement canines, K-9Verro. K-9 Verro was an eight year old BelgianMalinois who was handled by Corporal BrandonKilgore. K-9 Verro and Corporal Kilgore had beenpartners for over seven years while working together inPaulding County. K-9 Verro was a dual purpose lawenforcement canine and was an exceptional member of thePaulding County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit. 7. Mrs G. I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest possibly the font you are somehow defaulting to is missing those characters. In the editing setup, highlight your text and select Arial from the drop down. There are few things more weird than a font that is missing punctuation. I can't imagine anyone pulling such a practical joke on you but it is really kind of twisted to remove punctuation from a font and install it on a machine used by a stickler for punctuation. I mean who would think of doing that? pubby PS: I could also be the result of a failed key on a keyboar
  8. thanks for the heads up. Is it in the meat section at the grocery store or is it in some kind of dry-form and requires mixing? I'm totally ignorant other than I've heard the 'impossible burger' is amazingly good. gpatton
  9. I don't know about the location of this new BK ... but I've heard good things about their meatless 'impossible' burger. I asked at the old one near where the K-mart used to be and they said they didn't have it yet. I'm holding out for one these at my next BK visit. Otherwise, what's the point? pubby
  10. Nothing happened to pubby ... well, I'm going to change my screen name ... but I'm on the board of the new pcom and I'm actively helping move the site on toward its natural purpose - connecting the community. But I'll be 69 this coming October and, while I have no concerning health issues, when Caped Crusader came to me with his plan; it answered some critical questions I had regarding the site. Hey, this is just the best way forward and I'm happy to help it along. Gpatton Damn ... I wish I'd thought of that
  11. Fireworks In Paulding County: What You Should Know (Paulding County, GA) As we all get ready to celebrate our nation’s birthday, many of you will have cookouts, pool parties, maybe catch a baseball game, or even shoot some fireworks. But do you know what the law says about discharging fireworks? What you may not know is that the Georgia General Assembly changed the times on when you can legally ignite fireworks last year. The new law went into effect on July 1, 2018. Now you can legally discharge fireworks in the State of Georgia any day from 10:00 AM unt
  12. Gosh, I need to read pcom earlier in the day to find out important things like this (Talked to Curtis on the phone and failed to deliver a happy birthday wish.) Oh well, perfection eludes me again. pubby
  13. I wonder if asked, if the local authorities would say if this group of criminals were members of a gang? pubby
  14. Avoid 278/92 intersection until Saturday night That is the message that Curtis Carlin came away withafter talking to the folks who are doing the constructionof a new crosswalk scheme at GA 92 and US 278 in Hiram. Carlin said the project supervisor recommended avoidingthis intersection and points east on 278 and south on 92as traffic had already backed up to the Cobb Line at 2:30pon Friday (June 27). Carlin sent me a few more photosfor this story. Construction should be completed bySaturday afternoon, the folks overseeing the scene said. Notably, the area is accessible but consideri
  15. I saw that and wrote it off to logistics surrounding a remote movie shoot. pubby
  16. Get off it dogs... White people have started riots on many occasions. I mean there were tons of jobs and white people were doing them in colonial Boston yet it was a mob that confronted the British soldiers in Boston in 1775. Oh, and when the Red Coats, the enforcers of British rule in colonial America, killed a black man, the whole country up and and lo and behold, there was an organized riot called the American Revolution. Of course some white men have rioted for other reasons, Just over in Marietta just over 100 years ago, the white men, and we're talking community leaders and elect
  17. One of the key takeaways from history is the relation between the French and American people. Without the French, we would probably not won the Revolutionary war. It was only when the Brits lost their largest army at Yorktown, possible because of the French Fleet, that this war was won. Europe's history in the 19th and 20th centuries involved major rivalries between the French and the British and the Germans and the French through the end of WWII ... which literally ended in the total destruction of the continent. Recognizing that costs of war, coupled with alien narratives including
  18. I'm in awe. When I feel bad I can't bring myself to write at all when my brain is buzzing with pain and concerns. In contrast, you write your story eloquently despite the personal travails that must make thinking in complete sentences, much less rationally a challenge. Really, your ability to describe your experience is remarkable given just the arthritis in you hands not to mention the dizziness. Anyway, folks are listening. You are welcome to express your needs, even if it is sympathetic shoulder on which to commiserate. pubby .
  19. I'm closing this topic because it has gotten waaaay toooo personal. I will leave you with the thought of the oath of office duty to faithfully execute the laws of the land with taking one's ball and going home bcause you were 'out' at first and its your ball. (I actually experienced this from a neighbor when growing up ... and we never played ball with him again.) pubby PS: The article in the WAPO was an editorial that basically suggests that the answer to global warming is to create environmentally sustainable micro environments with each community fending for itself. It fails to
  20. The joke: " it is Infrastructure week" pubby
  21. Cain: The 14 points of contact were probably designed for the capacities projected in the future. I think some of the population projections have Paulding with a population of over 300,000 people by 2050. Right now, Paulding has more population than any county in NW GA; about 40,000 than Floyd Co (Rome). The projections show Paulding with 130,000 more residents than Floyd in 30 years. When it comes to building infrastructure - and a tag office is 'infrastructure' - you plan ahead. Another example. In 1990 when we built the present jail, Paulding's old jail could hold
  22. Why be so critical SG? I mean, sure, it probably took two or three days of thinking and running around memos to make the DRIVES acronym official but you're totally discounting the time saved by such acronyms by those who print, read or use the acronym to communicate about it. If you're right and this transition is a total CF, this truncation of the Georgia Driver Record and Integrated Vehicle Enterprise System to DRIVES, will save the citizens literally minutes as they compose their letters of complaint pubby
  23. Gosh, RM ... you do know the mere fact he was considered a sex symbol .... gave millions of less musically talented men .... dare I say it ... hope pubby
