The Paulding Board of Commissioners met today with a work-session this morning that made up for the snow-day cancellation of the last meeting in February. The commission will meet again next Tuesday for the regular first March meeting. While there were many topics on the agenda as well as a bevy of citizens wishing to speak, the Chairman came back to a constant point of contention in his administration - litter in Paulding and had several of the county staff address this perennial issue. Regulations, we don't need no stinkin Regulations.
gpatt0n replied to CitizenCain's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I happened to see the interview and while it is obvious that their third-party analysis of the product being sold shows it violates the regulations - sometimes by more than 2000 percent, the boxes in the stores all state the product offered was complaint. Seems the regulations are written in such a way that they box-statement asserts the product was made in a plant that is certainly capable of meeting the California standard and implies that the product meets the standard but the regulatory regime doesn't provide for spot checking or independent "government inspections" because the rules, -
It looks to small to be a cat ... but it does look like a black and white kitten with a boston-terrier like markings lurking in the grass a bit ahead of the rooster. The distance, I believe, is distorted (i.e. the cat is bigger and slightly out of focus) because a telephoto lens is being used by the person taking the photo. I.e. I suspect the cat is about five or six feet further away and slightly ahead of the rooster. pubby

CC: This topic, like many others, establishes among a certain group, their belief that property rights are greater and superior to human rights. That wasn't always the understanding of those in the Republican Party. Indeed, its founder, on A. Lincoln, had a decidedly different view on the primacy of human rights vs. property rights. Of course that was said when the idea of slavery - the ability of one person to literally own another person as property - was pretty common; especially in this neck of the woods. The primacy of property rights over human rights, whether it is -
Regulations, we don't need no stinkin Regulations.

I don't think that those of us who recognize the need for regulations favor obtuse or destructive regulation. Indeed, I would say that most of us understand that lax or no regulations tend to reward those who would lie, cheat and steal from consumers by faking compliance with the regulations. The problem with the far right is that in order to use the regulation 'argument' as a polarizing point and vote-swaying tool, they've gone off the deep end calling for deregulation when we all know that left to their own devices, many companies would relish in the idea of poisoning millions if t -
Remember the Texas nurse and her dog hit by Ebola?
gpatt0n replied to Brian's topic in RECENT TOPICS
This is a straight 'workers compensation' case and ought to be handled in a manner similar to any other workers compensation case based on established law. Nurses and other medical personnel study disease and are quite aware of the dangers involved in their professions. They ultimately know there are risks and that if the institution for which they work has a breakdown or exhibits incompetence, then the employee may be due additional compensation. The point is that the travail this nurse endured (and survived) is covered by the risks others in that profession face every day from a my -
BBblah ... I don't think the court documents were news to Ms. Goldman. I do think it was rude to bring the court documents and her history up in the email just as it was rude and sloppy journalism ... that was slipping toward libel for Ms. Goldman to suggest that Mr. Jones was committing fraud. Take what ever side you want but if you're smart you recognize it was a pissing war and that pissing war continues to the detriment of all the citizens of Paulding. While no one has turned their cheek and there are a couple of dozen eyeballs in the pot that takes and eye for an eye, the pl

What we're talking about in terms of the board settings is a feature called reputation points. The 'Like" system replaced that. The previous settings are as they were with premium members supposed to get 10 likes and 10 negs a day. Regular members are supposed to get 5 likes but no negs. How the board interprets and renders that since the upgrade is a new one on me. pubby
-
They changed the system from the + and - to allow only 'likes' ... We had problems in those days with regular members nailing folks they didn't like with negs ... I mean it was a form of gang warfare. When the new board was installed there was some discussion about the rating system vanishing but there wasn't much discussion of the like system so I wasn't aware there was a problem. Let me look at it. pubby

I know we have different views of America. There is one with justice for all based on facts and then there is one where justice depends on who you are. You attack 'liberal logic' ... Consider your conservative logic's handling of the same facts. We have the highest % of people in world in jail/prison in world You assert that more criminals are getting off here (not going to prison) For your logic to be true, the USA - the most Christian nation in the world with more professed Christians than any other on the face of the earth, has, since the election on November 5th, 2008, bec

I don't see it as a case of having to choose. I don't dispute that the person writing the email holds those opinions just as I don't doubt that surepip has also passed his moment of judgment on this administration. They are welcome to their judgments and opinions but that is their judgments and opinion. I'm not there. To reach those judgments, I would have to have more specific evidence of a crime. I'm very much a reasonable doubt type of guy. In the case of the allegation that the company was part of a conspiracy to defraud the county and funnel funds; the evidence shown is so laug

Heck, stradial ... I've been trying to get you on camera for about as long as I've known you. Folks, stradial is a funny guy, conservative but not overtly political nor particularly well connected locally. I'm baffled by the attitude expressed by toxic, although I have to say I don't know who toxic is. I am a bit aware of the user identity and my recollection - I would want to say that I've not reviewed posts - is that this poster is a bit of a wild-card. Given the predictable reaction, I don't know that I would bet the farm on the fact that toxic is 'really a friend' of Mike Jo

I did delay my shopping until about 6:30 and the place was nearly deserted. When the snow started falling, folks hunkered down. pubby

For those interested, I am still working on the report. I do some, come back, make some calls, add, polish, edit ... and all the while planning to put it out when we do the show. I think the weather and Patti's cold, which has delayed the taping of the show until tomorrow afternoon, has added two days to the schedule. As far as semantics of press conference and meeting ... I had in my mind the press conference (of a sort) because I fully expected Candi and Cathy Helms to be there meaning it wasn't an personal interview or meeting. It really wasn't that big a deal in my mind and I'

I think you spoke too soon Mill Creek. That was at 10:30a. There were way more people than usual. The lines for cashiers was three and four shoppers deep and I had to wait five minutes for self-service because t here were four people waiting before me. pubby

Well, satellite, weren't you insistent that this was nothing like a press conference? What I can say is that I was there both as a reporter and as a publisher. It was in the role of publisher that question was posed. I will say that I have disclosed to the person that was asked about, that they were the subject of the question. While they've PM'd me to say that I can disclose it - that is why I came to the topic - I'll leave it to them to PM you directly if they want you to know. That should answer the question, "was it me" for all who are curious. pubby

I am unaware of any one being fired from local government for posting on pcom I disavow that statement without proof. Indeed, it takes a subpoena to get an identity (unless the person has identified themselves on the site or provides their email address... at that point identifying information is public.) or information and I have fought subpoenas before. pubby

I can answer one question this way ... If power goes out in Paulding, PCOM won't go down. The servers that host the site are in a big server farm in Atlanta with redundancies on power out the wazoo. While it would likely went down in a walking dead scenario, a snow storm won't take it down. However, you may be compromised in getting it if comcast lines go down, att lines go down, or your power goes out and you don't have those services because your router or modem went down. (But you could use your cell phone to reach the net and browse if you choose, as long as the towers don't go
