  1. I've read some of your comments Whitey (Oh, and I know I've pissed you off too Lets see, you disagree with Mike Jones, you disagree with BB. BB is not a county employee. Both are free Americans. The only problem I have is that you seem to imply that you are better than both. Another 'my way or the highway' statement seeking to demean another by suggesting guilt by association. I.e. pubby is a politician and all politicians exist on the dark side. KMWBA I recognize that perfection does not exist anywhere. Never has and never will. Some places are, however, m
  2. Actually Whitey, unless the records obtained from Candi Goldman's FOIA of Jones credit card receipts or some other record directly tied the payment to the online background check, it would be improper to state that the expense was in fact tied to her background. There are multiple ways that information could be known/obtained including from others who knew or have known Candi for a while. And I've received tons of pitches on how to do background checks through businesses offering this service online. Now that is part of the case that Candi has made but it is far from proven.
  3. My reading is that that politicians weren't any more moral before Willie ... Willie was just like them; only better with the hammer. The problem is with our way of selecting political leaders ... across the board. pubby
  4. I'm watching the movie for about the tenth time (over the years). pubby PS: The kiss their ass now so I can kick it later line was from the book, btw. Amazing how things like that become lodged in one's memory.
  5. All the King's Men 1949 version is available on xfinity.tv if you have streampix and can get TCM movies. It is available for free for another 6 days. pubby
  6. Mojo: When I first came here in 1989 - the stories about the reaction to Paulding as the site of the second Atlanta Airport were already legend. Strategically, it is kind of like the Battle of Atlanta. Let me explain. There was Gen. Joseph E. Johnston (Johnston Street in Dallas was named after him) and then there was Gen. John Bell Hood. One was a my way or the highway ball-on win or lose kind of guy. The other was cagier, fought very defensively using basically George Washington's strategy of keeping an army, albeit smaller than the Yankees but still formidable, in the field for th
  7. Since you're talking about Huey... Here's the 'real deal.' pubby PS: In the book at least ... there was a line when Stark was being recruited (he had lost a race and was making a deal to get a party nomination) ... where he said, "I kiss their ass now so I can kick it later."
  8. Look at the growth of the United State of America. It has grown most dramatically and surely during Democratic administrations ... and I can assure you that democratic politicians are usually business friendly. There are many who suggest there is little or no difference between the political parties and there is not a great deal of difference historically. The biggest difference would be characterized by a debate on what constitutes 'usury' ... Old Democrats like I grew up around in Arkansas, believed that anything over 10 percent interest annually was usury and put that into the state's c
  9. And they say pcom has too much drama I think it is going to be an interesting show next week. pubby
  10. Sounds like there is some conflicts going on behind the scenes. I'm shocked, shocked!!! pubby
  11. The PCBOC work session and 2 p.m. Commission meeting - both of which were held on Thursday, are live. The first session lasted 1:24 and the voting session just under 20 minutes. We understand that the motions to remove the IBA and AA members was tabled indefinitely and the motions making appointments were removed from further consideration. We have several unconfirmed reports that indicate that county Administrator Mike Jones has resigned from his position. Those reports do not include an effective date of departure or reasons. We do have a call into the county to ascertain the d
  12. Obviously, this is all news to me. As far as the reason for the resignation; I would suspect that there could have been friction between at least one of the new commissioners as Jones was responsible for laying folks off back in 2009 and one of the new commissioners was among those sent home, if I recall. Now I'm sure there are other things in play in regard the exit including possibly ideological efforts in the form of more surprise ordinances that might further shrink the size of county government. In a conversation with the GOP party chairman, who is foursquare Tea Party, the ulti
  13. Yes, all you need are existing businesses and a business-friendly atmosphere. Going back decades, Paulding had a reputation of not being 'very friendly' ... even hostile. That is why business and commercial property, as a percentage of our tax digest, is 15% whereas Cobb - where McCollum is - sports a business percentage of its tax digest in excess of 55% (and they've got a lot of big houses in East Cobb too.) And, yes, Whitey, all those folks going back all those years that you supported are in part responsible for the unfriendly business atmosphere ... probably because they liste
  14. Surepip: You know and I know that the airport was a perk that was a flex of the muscles of the Paulding establishment under the Shearin Administration. That muscle included being home to Paulding's first Speaker (and first Republican speaker of the Georgia House since reconstruction). It included not just Richardson but also the folks who were on the plane that crashed in February 2008. It was also conceived of in the context of the housing boom and Paulding being in the top 10 fastest growing counties in the USA for more than a decade. The local economy, based on development and homebuildi
  15. Paulding Sheriff Gary Gulledge spoke with the folks at the Paulding Business Association Thursday, relating the trials and tribulations associated with his 25 years with the Paulding County Sheriff's office. Sheriff Gary Gulledge has been employed with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office since 1990. He began his career at the Sheriff’s Office as a jailer and rose through the ranks to the Office of Sheriff on January 1, 2009. Sheriff Gulledge has seen many changes at the Sheriff’s Office and in our county. Sheriff Gulledge is committed to maintaining the professionalism at the Sheriff’s Offi
  16. BTW: The car was barely recognizable because those with the jaws of life pretty much ripped it all apart. No doubt it was a devastating wreck but the driver of the town car survived. pubby
  17. Jones will be speaking to the Paulding Business Association at next month's meeting as the county manager. pubby
  18. I called to let you know I think I've got Melissa a ride. She should be in Mayretta about 8a and will call about 7:30-8:00 in the morning from Nancy. pubby
  19. Let me demonstrate with this 'bit' from 2008 noting the flip-flops. The Daily Show Get More: Daily Show Full Episodes,Indecision Political Humor,The Daily Show on Facebook Really very funny.I think that while Jon Stewart is a very bright and talented guy, the success of those from Colbert to Oliver that he's brought along shows that he'll have a good presenter groomed, ready and with a top-knotch writing team backing the effort. (Don't kid yourself, the daily show is a team effort involving at least a dozen writers.pubby
  20. Dogs, I could say the same for you. Heck, I suspect you won't be happy until a man like this one is blaring from each and every one of the 500+ stations because he's like you, right every time pubby
  21. It is obvious you've never seen the show ... which figures. Yep, figures that you're highly certain and opinionated about things you know nothing about. pubby
  22. I see the elected officials leading this charge as extensions of some of the most conservative thought in this nation ... and likely recruited by those interests. I am not going to defend incompetence anywhere I see it but I see the argument here between the far, far right's agenda of eliminating government and the assertion that the actions taken, while maybe not as prescient as we'd all like, certainly within the mainstream of what we as a people want government to do. I understand that because you know some folks who were against the airport but were for other government actions to pro
  23. I wouldn't say war is eminent. Germany is very much against war. They're waaaaay too close and also there are all those US Army bases still there that are prime targets. pubby
