  1. This is a release the county has put out on the availability of Parker Fibernet's capabilities. Note the bolded text. pubby
  2. No one informed me that the press conference was cancelled - since Mike Jones called it and didn't call it off, I attended and we talked and I took notes for going on an hour. I actually do wish that Cathy and Candi had been there. I'd read the stories that Candi had written but certainly I didn't know the nature of their sources. It appears that Mike Jones had some issues with their interpretations. The issue he raised was how accurate Candi's reporting was. While he provided a goodly amount of information to back up his innocent interpretation, I'm going to have to fact check w
  3. The climate change models do predict more extremes in the weather ... this is pretty extreme, wouldn't you say Stradial. pubby
  4. I think she probably has a point given the composition of the new PCBOC ... I wouldn't say the three who are calling the shots have inspired much trust on my behalf. pubby
  5. If I were Delta with their big fuel tax break, I'd take the high road and say they're 100 percent behind dropping the 'gimmie' if the state will divert the funds to expansion of medicaid. They'd make International headlines with that and who knows, might start a 'trend' where corporations cash in tax breaks to fund more inclusive policy changes. Oh well, I did have some strange dreams last night, didn't I pubby
  6. I think narcissism probably comes close. pubby
  7. Bothers me? Quite the contrary ... I thought John Stuart Mill had it right. pubby
  8. For some reason, I remember you and your cohorts being particularly upset when TP had this John Stuart Mill quote in his signature Although it is not true that all conservatives are stupid people, it is true that most stupid people are conservative. John Stuart Mill I never understood why you and your friends took umbrage ... unless of course you figured you weren't one of the smart conservatives.
  9. Low. I don't know, I'd like faster internet at half the price. Nothing against Comcast except we pay a hellofalot more for it than we should. Oh, and regard the ROW thing. Who do you think has the ROW to begin with and sells access to the power/cable/ phone companies (Answer, the cities and counties ... they just add a tax.) pubby
  10. I've just had some one line up for an editorial on the Pat and Patti Show ... Low. Maybe you want to expand on your hatred for liberals in a stand up. I promise the teleprompter I use has real big letters (and I can make it bigger) so you can read it really easy. I think you'd do wunnerful. pubby
  11. He'll say whatever he thinks will put the perpetual war machine in gear ... Since he and I both agree that some how somewhere some butt head will sneak through the efforts to ID a mass murderer, we both also know that we won't do much until that event happens. Depending on the event - think the rather dramatic display that was 911 - he'll either get his way and we'll again crank up the perpetual war machine as the whole country goes into revenge mode. The likely benefit is that direct intervention with boots on the ground is at best a foolish strategy to protect the homeland. However,
  12. If you were intrigued by this topic, you should view the latest Pat and Patti Show here.
  13. Did you read what I said... I agree it is going to happen. Sending an army to the region to pummel the area is not going to lower the risk. Been there, done that and if that was the answer, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Like I said, come up with another plan besides perpetual war ... oh, and BTW, try to keep it under $200,000,000, not 2,000,000,000,000. pubby
  14. Everyone, left, right and center, already KNOWs that there are all kinds of extremists already killing people in this country. For instance, one might say with relative certainty that alcoholism represents extreme and bizarre behaviors that result in innocent people dying - about 10,000 of them every year in auto-related accidents nationwide. That is a palpable and measurable threat to my mortality. But even then I don't think any rational person would recommend going to the bars on Superbowl Sunday and killing everyone in them because killing some 50 million drinkers would give us a
  15. I don't know about you, but there are numerous missed opportunities for development. One that I think the county is too timid (I think we know why) is to actually activate a new but authorized authority to deal with the county-owned digital or data infrastructure. There is actually a dormant authority kind of like the IBA set up in law to exploit that option. Just to show that there are positive outcomes to such things is a story about Tullahoma, TN ... Here is another link to a story that explores why such efforts are not being undertaken. pubby
  16. Probably for the same reason that Byron De La Beckwith hated Medgar Evers. pubby
  17. Nigel Lane is a prodigious seven year old NASCAR fan. I interviewed him about the excitement he feels going into the new NASCAR season. This is Nigel's NASCAR Report. pubby
  18. Hey, I'm not making excuses. I'm just trying to understand aberrant behaviors. You know, aberrant behaviors like those who act on their hatred like the guy in that killed the student, his girlfriend and his sister for the parking violation. To me, aberrant behavior is aberrant behavior. pubby
  19. But realize that this guy's job was seeing and hearing fellow soldiers spout hate toward his religion regularly and I suspect that was his path to radicalization. pubby
  20. Most consider walking up and meeting someone and asking, "Can I eat you" as an anti-social interaction ... which, in the case of dinosaurs looks a lot like this: Apparently you don't find that distasteful, preferring that interchange to any other kind of social interaction. Who'd have thunk it? pubby
  21. I think you know that I believe the main failing here is that the folks are so cheap they don't think we ought to treat folks fairly. They probably think we can't afford to treat folks fairly. My sincere belief is that if we start by treating folks fair ...it will be not only easier to bring the community together - but the additional cost (if any) becomes an insignificant footnote. The problem is that the idea that if we 'crush' those who object, presumably to keep them in line, will make progress easier when just being just is all most folks want, ask or expect. And you're right
  22. I don't know, I think a fair number of them are pretty outraged. Take the response from Jordan from this Reuters article: The number of Muslim's murdered by ISIS actually exceeds the number of Christians and Jews as they seek to lead mankind back into the middle ages with its frequent barbarism. I know that there is a streak in the American Conservative that says, "hey, we like killing, maiming and murder and we're the best at it" ... but sometimes you have to let others - at least from your perspective - have the fun. It is their fight; really, it is and our direct participation i
  23. While technically only pterodactyl's had any wings at all, I think we can concede that social Darwinist - eat or be eaten - culture where only the strong survive of ancient dinosaurs was the apex of conservative culture. pubby
  24. “Climate change is real and it’s a threat that we want to act on,” Shell Chief Executive Officer Ben van Beurden told the Washington Post in September. “We’re not aligning with the skeptics.” Like I said, dogs ... you just didn't get the memo. pubby PS: I do appreciate you reminding folks of Skyline's sponsorship. If my PC was full of BS, I'd be glad to engage them to pump it out
  25. They aren't here because the anti-growth sentiment in the county in 1990 chastised, threatened and castigated the IBA for having the audacity to build a 'spec building.' I agree, wholeheartedly that we need not one or two spec buildings; but three or four with additional land being bought and set up for more job expansion. But my whole point is you don't get there by chastising, brow-beating, threatening and castigating the leaders in the county for taking these risks. Yet the plain fact and truth of the matter is that the county commissioner who said, "I think we should just tr
