  1. True to form, pubby can't discuss a topic without insulting them. This is why I have said pubby is one of the most caustic posters on his forum, and that he sets the tone for the rest of us. I didn't insult "them" GD ... I insulted you with a funny insult I thought. Obviously you have no sense of humor even though, (see the quote above of yours that I added) you said you never accepted any scientific theory ... so I brought forward the flat earth theory (or the globe theory that you obviously will never ever accept) and figured you were a prime candidate for its presidency. You don't
  2. talking to you guys is like listening to a broken Bealtes record stuck on the "yea, yea, yea" of she loves you. The reality is that China has made a real gut wrenching commitment to move away from coal production over the next decade and their commitment, to actually begin reducing carbon emissions by 2030 - is their minimum commitment. They aren't dumb and, if you haven't gathered, their primary thrust is going to be with solar. Their commitment is to have 20 percent of their energy generation capacity to come from renewable sources - primarily solar. This article in the Guardian gi
  3. Open burning of what? plants, trees, etc. ... those combustibles were and are part of the current carbon cycle and are renewable sources of energy meaning that in the equation of carbon in the environment, that carbon just changes form (it is captured in the fibers of a growing tree or leaf of grass, it dies, dries and is burned only to be part of the greater equilibrium.) I see from further discussion that you reject theories because you feel they should always be questioned. That is really a stunning statement and I'm overwhelmed with awe at the implications. I don't know whether
  4. Mark Anthony said it best in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar when he said they were all, all, honorable men. pubby
  5. 1940? You do realize that there were v-12 Lincolns and V-16 Cadillacs in 1940. Sherman Tanks and B-17 Bombers, gooney birds (DC-3s) and steam locomotives that filled the skies with carbon from the combustion of coal. Even going back another 100 years, coal, which had become the primary source of heat for cities like London (you couldn't breath in the winter outside because of the air pollution) and the steam engine for running factories, was being mined from Scotland to Pennsylvania. This is the part you guys don't understand. There was a kind of stasis that existed with the burn
  6. blackwhite was a bit of newspeak from the book 1984 and has no racist connotation. Any connotation having to do with race is totally from your pov. Indeed I said they weren't 'corrupt' ... but rather no one has the ability to know the actual facts; and we all are captive of our biases. The leap is recognizing that others experiences inform their biases. That, and if you recall the bit on the globetrotters win record vs. the washington generals (13000+ to 3) one might assume the game might be rigged in favor of the generals. I even noted that children cried the last time the Ge
  7. I think you got blackwhite down, baby. However, for those who may have a glimmer of critical thinking left, review boards and other efforts don't have to be corrupt to be wrong. I mean what does a jury or a judge or even a prosecutor really know about the 'crime' committed? Were they there? Were any of the witnesses really there? What about those witnesses. Don't some of them lie. Which ones tell the truth and which one's lie. You might not be racists or prejudiced against anyone but if you value the job of law enforcement, chances are you believe them just a little more t
  8. Actually, if you took the time to read and had any understanding of the real issues SDN, you'd realize that in the circles of political science and academia, this particular approach to determining the relative positions of the players is actually well respected and amazingly accurate. Hell the guy does this for political leaders throughout the world and bases their positions on particular policy questions ... the same ones that he uses in his questionnaire that you would use. The site has been translated into four languages as well. Hell it is British in origin and they really cou
  9. Being the longest sitting member of the Nebraska legislature, State Sen. Ernie Chambers is an independent representing a particular section of Omaha where this kind of thing happens (and example from the article you posted). So, what do you want, those four police officers re-instated, given raises and medals? Don't you just applaud excessive force, evidence tampering and cover-ups. I get it that this is not your 'experience' ... and I'd be willing to bet that if it was, you would be on your porch with your bushmaster clutching four or five 100-round magazines just hoping the g
  10. That is hogwash: This is much more authoritative. Having taken the test before, I can say that I'm about as libertarian as Ron Paul (maybe a little more libertarian) but I am several blocks left of him. Still, totalitarian is a factor of how high you appear on the chart. This totally independent approach to determining where folks fit into the left-right - bit government/small government matrix makes a lot more sense than taking right wing pundits opinions for gospel. pubby PS: Take the test and I suspect you'll be somewhere to the southeast of Santorum and Obama.
  11. Actually, the pilot, who was locked out of the cockpit, had a code to open the door in the event of an incapacity of the co-pilot. Not being incapacitated, the co-pilot blocked that code, prevented the door being opened and the pilot taking over. It sounds to me like the kind of craziness that comes from a broken heart. You know, like he was in a relationship when he was in pilot training four years ago when he had to stop ... and 'she' left him at the time. He seemed to be fine but when he boarded the plane for the trip back to Germany, there she was on board with her new love and ...
  12. I'm beginning to think you squint because you can't read ... oh you can read. I mean comprehend. I mean from what I gather you call me crazy because I post a story that reports that Cops in Ferguson MO arrived on the scene of an accident and noticing someone was rendering aid to a person bleeding by applying pressure to the wound, ordered them to stop doing so and when they refused, arrested them, ignoring the injured bleeding party and allowing them to bleed as he goes about cuffing the good samaritan, writing writing him a ticket for a offense that no-doubt carries a fine ... and the inj
  13. Where you get this idea that everything is hunky dory is the root of the insanity. Take this passage from the Ferguson MO DOJ report as an example of daily absurdities: Basically, the whole point of the Ferguson PD was to collect money from the people who lived there so the small portion of property owners could avoid an increase in property tax. This policy was endorsed by the city council which typically got money from absentee landlords and business owners to administer the city. The policy was simply to get the money to run the city from fines rather than property or other
  14. I don't think it is a matter of optimism or pessimism Rose ... rather the difference - and it is an enormous one - is in vanity and ambition. I honestly think that the local politicians are not so vain nor ambitious as to think in terms of conquering a county that they can rule with an iron hand, much less a country, continent or world. While I do think, somewhat cynically, that every politician regardless of the party, is out to game the system to a greater or lesser degree, those who have been born and educated here tend to recognize the sovereignty of the people and would never, as you
  15. Suicide ... he could have done that at home. This is mass murder. pubby
  16. I'm going to answer the criticisms by projecting into the future. Yes, in this particular future Glenn Beck is chosen President because of his steel trap unemotional approach to government and 'librals' ... are all off being re-educated in a reactionary cultural renewal. That means of course that librals are being trucked to pick up stuff on the side of the road and even pick cotton and other mundane activities, useful and profitable to some, but totally demeaning. Anyway, Guard Dad is driving down the road and sees one of the re-education buses off in a ditch. There are libral bodie
  17. It is kind of funny but if you've watched "shameless" on showtime, you're familiar with the gentrification and the way those folks work. If your kid got caught for ripping off stuff from cars and was sentenced to five years to serve one with the balance on probation, you might think that is good enough. But some folks think folks who commit a property crime are really, really bad folks who ought to be locked up ... or heck, why not shot. I mean they violated someone's property rights! I know that some of you feel that is the way it ought to be. So does this realtor in DeKalb coun
  18. I finally went and read your 'federalist' opinion piece that actually admits that 2014 was the hottest year on record ... It hem and hawed about the margin of error but said not once that the actual average number taken from their data was the highest on record. It also hemmed and hawed about the use of the term, not of 'on record' but recorded history and then went about suggesting that there was some anecdotal evidence - they grew grapes in England in the days when Caesar and Brutus met in a conservative confab one March 15th. But while it may have swayed you - hell I'm sure it sw
  19. What can I say, I was unarmed, surrounded and they had their hands around their midsections some of the time. Why if I were armed and policeman I could have gotten away with shooting 'em dead pubby
  20. “First they came ....” is a famous statement and provocative poem written by Pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) about the cowardice of German intellectuals[citation needed] following the Nazis' rise to power and the subsequent purging of their chosen targets, group after group. Many variations and adaptations in the spirit of the original have been published in the English language. It deals with themes of persecution, guilt and responsibility. What you guys have to realize is that with the world's largest incarcerated population, with a portion of that incarceration rate due to mis-infor
  21. That is your opinion. Body bags are the fact and anyway you slice it there are too damn many. pubby
  22. that's funny. Yathink's post... though is so horribly off topic it too is funny. ... but a much better example of a straw-man argument. pubby
  23. My point is that I that I don't think a dead body is a satisfactory end to an arrest. I call all of them a screw up. It may be justified but ultimately I feel that body bags in police work are a failure. And I would be as certain to say it is a screw up if the body bag had a badge in it as if it is a civilian. The answer may be new weapons; it may be the insertion of government devices under the skin that can allow a person (a felon) to be tracked and/or incapacitated ... or something other than the body bag. There is a better way and that is up to us to find. pubby
