Just take an air tank and blow it out good all around the pilot light. If you don't have a air tank use a vacuum cleaner and suck out around the pilot light and where the gas comes out of the pilot light. Hope this helps. Sorry Jonny J I didn't see your post. The C 4 that we used in Viet Nam was white and looked like play dough. It was safe untill you placed a blasting cap inside. You could even burn small amounts to cook with. So you could add food coloring and make it look like play doug. But like you said Mike if he had any doubts about it he should have cleared all of the people out of the building.

Could be the battery cables just need cleaning. Get acid build up on them at the posts. I would check the fuses also.

tranquility you said you worked with fireplaces for years so I have a question for you. My house was built in 1881 .Well when I moved here 30 years ago my house had two fireplaces with the old flat rock chimneys. One was a double chimney between the living room and bed room and the other one was in the kitchen. Both chimneys were open on top with nothing covering the opening in the top. The opening in the top was big enough for me to get down into it but no matter how hard it rained it never ran out of the fireplace into the house. Never could understand how that could be.
