I had a golden that bloated, had the surgery, the recovery was very, very taxing on our dog, us and our wallets. What got me is that nobody could tell us why. He lived another four years and bloated almost every other day but came through it because when he had the surgery, they tacked his stomach to his rib cage. He had to be put down because of cancer throughout his stomach. They are such goofy, loving dogs and I feel your pain.
