  1. I don't have a problem with Mike Jones leaving - like I said above, I hardly know the man. The only things I have ever heard about him until I read this thread have been very positive. I never have a problem with anyone making decisions for themselves and what is in their best interests. I haven't seen one person post definitive proof though that he has done anything wrong. All I am seeing thus far is accusations that he possibly ran an illegal background check. I am simply pointing out that some people are obviously confused about what a background check is and what is actually a mat
  2. So.....I have to assume that you have had a personal conversation with Mike as to his reasons for resigning right? I have not so I don't know his reason for resigning. I can speculate with the best of them but that I admit that would simply be pure speculation. I don't really feel the need to talk to Mrs. Breen or David about this matter. If I decide I really want to know, I would get in touch with Mike Jones himself and ask him. If he chose not to disclose the reasons for his resignation to me, I would simply respect that and move on. Unless you are bound by an employment contract, any
  3. I am not smooth talking - I don't do the "smooth talking" thing well even if I wanted to. So you tell me Whitey - why are they leaving? Can you tell me beyond all certainty that it has to do with them being dissatisfied with how David Austin, et al are running things? Let me give you the flip side of what it "could" be. It could be that the "anti" everything people are driving these qualified, educated, leaders away. Could it not? As for the background checks, as I said, it is a common practice to have background checks done on potential employees - happens every day. Therefore, absol
  4. I have heard about this new service but we haven't used it yet. We had it in the Houston, TX area and it was great. $4.99 is in my opinion a very fair price for this service and I look forward to using it soon. Thanks for posting blondie!
  5. Maybe it is as simple as Mike Jones could have been offered a position that was too attractive to pass up. Of course it could be that Pownall and the 2 newly elected Commissioners had already made up their mind that they would vote for him to be dismissed and that he (Mike Jones) did the responsible thing for he and his family and was proactively seeking employment elsewhere. And as far as background checks paid for on his county credit card, I would think there is a strong possibility that these charges were as a result of background checks run on potential county employees. I have gon
  6. Excellent analysis! My sons who are very independent and do not lean conservative or liberal, are very sad about Jon Stewart leaving. They are very impressed with his ability to be objective and fair.
  7. Thank you all for the great advice. Believe it or not, our plans have once again changed. Instead of flying into San Francisco, we are now flying into Reno, NV so that we can go back to Virginia City, NV and Lake Tahoe. My husband fell in love with those two areas a few years ago when we went. Now we are going to be spending a couple of days there and then driving over and up north to Crescent City, CA. We will then take the Pacific Coast Highway down through San Francisco, Los Angeles and then all the way down to San Diego and fly back home from San Diego. Now, the trip is going to
  8. So......who has done this and has helpful tips? Hubby and I are taking this trip right after our son's wedding in September of this year. The wedding is going to be quite a large affair with guests from not only the Southeast but also from the Boston, MA, Washington ,DC area and beyond. Just as soon as the wedding guests depart, we will be leaving for California. We are gonna need some relaxation after this wedding. The plan thus far is for us to fly into San Francisco, rent a convertible and travel south on SR 1. Evidently, the trip is about 655 miles from northern to southern C
  9. Thank you all so very much. I am usually a very sound sleeper but since we have found out there might be this health issue with my grandson, I haven't slept well at all. I am proud to say that I slept like a rock last night. I know it sounds silly to worry so much but that is part of being a parent and grandparent. It didn't help to remember 12 years ago when my precious nephew was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non Hodgkins Lymphoma at the same age my grandson is now - bad, bad memories. Thankfully, my nephew is cancer free and in his first year of being a lawyer. We still hold our breath
  10. I think you did a good job Pat and Patti. Thank you for providing the information about Mrs. Pennebaker - what a wonderful thing for her to do for our community! She and George are both valuable assets to our area. Also, kudos to our Sheriff's Department for taking such a proactive stance in the war against drugs.
  11. Update: We are back and received great news on my grandson! He has to go for a follow up visit in 4 weeks but according to the Doctor, there is most likely no reason that we will not also receive good results at the follow up visit. Dr. Mark Stovraff and his staff at Children's Surgical Associates in Atlanta are wonderful and I was so impressed with the overall visit. Dr. Stovraff spent a lot of time with us and really put ours minds at ease. I have to admit, this situation scared the "beegibees" out of me. Makes you remember to put your priorities in order and how unimportant some
  12. Ran out of likes. Thank you all very much for the prayers and good wishes. Just Thinkin Hard - I hope that it is something like you mentioned.
  13. Been a lot going on in last couple of weeks. My Dad, who had actually become quite stable health wise in the last few weeks, took a sudden turn for the worse last week and is not doing well. Also, one of my precious grandsons has been sick for the last couple of weeks. He is usually very active but has been very tired and lethargic in the past couple of weeks, He also had some very noticeable swollen glands under his chin and neck area. His Pediatrician did an ultrasound on his glands in the head and neck area and they have decided to send him to Children's Surgical Associates in Atla
  14. You do have a soft side don't you stradial? You truly are a ray of sunshine! Hope you have a great day!
  15. Okay so I have to brag on myself. I am dieting and this is the first sweet thing I have eaten in several days. This afternoon I made the Paula Dean recipe pound cake from scratch - it was wonderful! Anyone who knows me well knows that I am an "okay" cook but I am not a baker. Baking requires some science skills - I do not do science well. Here is the finished product (minus a few slices). P. S. Sorry for the upside down picture - I will blame it in the "sugar high".
  16. I agree Kim. I hear all kinds of things when I am out and about; however, I try very hard not to speculate. I have always found our elected officials to be easily accessible and more than willing to answer questions when I have them. In our current technological environment, it makes it even easier to correspond via email. In my older age I have come to really dislike drama and there is no need to place it somewhere where there really isn't any. But.........that's just me and I'm sure others may see this differently and I respect that. Thank you Kim to you and our BOE for all you d
  17. Roasted chicken breasts with potatoes and carrots, corn soufflé, green beans and whole wheat rolls. P..S. Thank you all for posting your menus - great ideas!
  18. No, no, no - you didn't just say that we now have red velvet Oreos. I have done really well on my diet - will not go down the cookie aisle , will not go down the cookie aisle, will not go down the cookie aisle........................................
  19. Thank you Brian! I looked at the site and it does list the ingredients for the half sour pickles. You can also order them for $9.99 a jar. There are a few extra things in their recipe that are not in the other, one of which is bay leaves. I have two bay trees at our house in Florida so I have plenty of bay leaves! Think I will try another batch this weekend using the ingredients listed on the website you provided.
  20. You know, I thought about that when I was making the dressing. I wish I were creative enough to make my own ketchup - maybe I'll try that next. I will let you know how they turned out on Saturday. I have a feeling they are not going to taste as good as Ted's. I love them also. Wonder how Ted's pickles and Appalachian Grille's mushroom soup would taste together.
  21. I don't appreciate being threatened. I have NEVER run a background check on you or anyone else here. I hate to burst your bubble, but I wouldn't waste the money on a background check on you. As far as my Christianity, moral values, etc., you simply are not qualified to make a sound judgment as to that. Have a good day.
  22. Eliminating processed foods from our diet is one of our goals also. If you don't mind passing along tips and recipes, I will do the same. You are right - just takes a couple of extra steps and very little trouble and so much healthier!
  23. A little off topic but I will be in Woodstock the first week of February. Have a date with my beautiful granddaughter to go to Tea Leaves & Thyme Tearoom for tea with Dx McStuffins. Want to join us TP?
  24. Here you go CreativeOne. Very simple ingredients that I know you have on hand as you are a gourmet cook!
