Are there ghosts in Paulding? If so, do they write well?
Coppertop's Pop replied to gpatt0n's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I voted today, but unfortunately, I live in Davis' district, so I couldn't vote to re-elect Crowe, Pownall & Collette. however I strongly support these three. Please vote today...Re-elect Pownall, Crowe and Collett. We don't want 737's landing in Paulding County..... -

I'm hoping Crowe, Pownall & Collett coast to victory...if they can stop 737's from landing here, they've got my support. By the way Pubby, the next commercial runway will be in Cobb County (Dobbins). Dobbins is right by the interstate and if you haven't noticed, Paulding has no access to the interstate. Duh.... the long term planners know that too. Make a note of it and check back in 5 years and tell me just how right I was. -

Lowest jobless claims in 48 years
Coppertop's Pop replied to Coppertop's Pop's topic in RECENT TOPICS
The economy is doing better, particularly for minorities, yet the democrats still have a problem with Trump. Black unemployment is the lowest ever recorded, yet the democrats still bash Trump deep and wide. I'd say the black folk are better off under Trump than they ever were under Clinton or Obama. Screw the democrats. -
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/u-weekly-jobless-claims-fall-lowest-level-since-123708205--finance.html WASHINGTON, (Reuters) - New applications for U.S. unemployment benefits dropped to their lowest level in more than 48 years last week, suggesting that March's slowdown in job growth was probably temporary. Initial claims for state unemployment benefits fell 24,000 to a seasonally adjusted 209,000 for the week ended April 21, the lowest level since December 1969, the Labor Department said on Thursday. Data for the prior week was revised to show 1,000 more applications received than previo

Serial Killer caught after 40 years

Excellent news.... -
The 4th Monday in April is recognized as Confederate Memorial Day (although some states recognize April 26th). One of my ancestors was shot by a yankee bullet in the Summer of 1864. He lost a leg in the war, but did manage to live until 1905.

Recently, my brother and I went in halves on a box of cigars to send to my nephew, a Sergeant in the US Army. My brother lives in Newnan and the guys at the cigar shop down there has a wall dedicated to active duty military folks, there are photos of guys puffing on cigars from his shop. Anyways, my brother loves those Arturo Fuente cigars. My nephew said the cigars were a huge hit with his Army buddies.

Are Children Safe Tonny S. Beavers' watch?
Coppertop's Pop replied to DomesticViolenceByProxy's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Judge Beavers is an honorable man, he's been on the bench as Chief Judge here for years. To keep attacking him because you lost your case is fair game. After all, he's a politician and it's ok to be a sore loser... but I'd say his rulings are fair and just. The criminals don't like him, so he must be doing something right! -

I'm hoping we can kick the can down the road a little while longer until I retire and move out of Paulding. At one time I though this was a good place to raise a family, but now up and down the main road, there's junk car lots, tattoo parlors, pawn shops, thrift stores and apartments. The quality of life in this area is ticking downwards. A bus line added to the mix surely wouldn't help bring property values up. (Folks who depend on the bus often can't afford a car, much less a house payment.) Hence more Section 8, more apartments and yes, a higher crime rate.

Big business is pushing for it, so their voice usually quashes the voices of voters. Time to move way up towards Ellijay I guess.

Excellent news for Georgia's economy
Coppertop's Pop replied to Coppertop's Pop's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Georgia's port in Savannah accounts for over 10% of the USA's exports to other countries. I'd say that's excellent news for Georgia, Further. the port is expanding capacity and the inland terminal in Murray County is also good news for Georgia. Stop whining about Trump. -
The Georgia Ports Authority on Tuesday broke ground on one of its largest-ever expansion projects, a new rail hub that officials say will connect the fast-growing Savannah port to Memphis, Chicago and other cities in the Midwest. The $126.7 million Mason Mega Rail Terminal project is expected to eventually take some 200,000 big rig trucks off the state’s freeways – even as container traffic grows – helping to alleviate bottlenecks near the Garden City Terminal and reducing truck traffic on highways across Georgia. The project, which will open its first phase in fall 2019 with completion expec

I'm surprised Pubby hasn't been all over this story. It's a big issue that has a lot of folks talking. Regardless of which side you are on, it will likely be years down the road until the courts get done with it.

https://www.thedallasnewera.com/local-news/2477-pcaa-members-join-mediation-talks-consider-increase-to-legal-budget Paulding County Airport Authority (PCAA) board members joined talks last week characterized by one attorney that could “in theory” lead to an end to all legal actions surrounding proposed commercialization of Paulding’s airport. Lawsuits have, since 2013, effectively stalled development efforts at Silver Comet Field. The Paulding County Airport Authority voted to participate in a mediation session designed to include all plaintiffs or defendants in a series of legal act

On this date in 44 B.C., Roman leader Julius Caesar was stabbed 23 times by a mob of mutinous senators. Caesar showed clearly that he would never restore the republic he had overthrown. He received the senators as a king (not rising from his seat when they entered the room), wanted himself to be crowned, and had himself proclaimed dictator for ever. All this was extremely unrepublican, and Brutus decided that he had to act. Some 60 senators conspired to assassinate the dictator, and Brutus, who was close to Caesar, became one of the leaders of the plot.
