  1. I have said for years it should be changed on a national basis to either the last Friday or Saturday in October. It is officially a retail holiday and has been since I was a little kid. My son must have ask me why school was not out at least 4 years in a row after it fell on a Friday and then Saturday. As a kid it always started at sundown, meaning trick or treaters are often up pass bed time and people giving out the treats have to get up for work in the morning. I simply think it would be more enjoyable to those that participate to have it on a weekend every year. Of course
  2. If it closes the way the Kmart in Cartersville did don't expect too many bargains. It became very messy and disorganized towards the end. I for one am very tired of stores that price things high to be marked down at some later time. You are never sure when you like something if it will be 1/2 price the next week. I liked the changes at JCPenney, most of their merchandise across the board was more reasonably priced and when I liked something there I bought it because I knew the price would not be cut in 1/2 the week after I purchased it. I guess I am unique because it did not work out f
  3. Cartersville has one this year, go north on 61 go through downtown and straight through the light at 41, I will be on your right where the Kmart use to be.
  4. This time of year it is not unusual to hear the hunters practicing and sighting their rifles. The am shots could be squirrel hunting, but six shots, I don't think so. There is not much you can do if you don't know exactly who is doing it. I hear a lot of shots where I live, definitely not hunting just fooling around. We are still rural here and it is just part of rural life. With that said I would be concerned simply for the fact that 4am shows a blatant disregard of what is appropriate, so who knows what else they will disregard such as safety rules. I would call the S.O the next ti
  5. You never like to see all your plants and flowers shriveled up. The elephant ears always look the worse, one day they are huge majestic plants nothing but stalks now. One of the positives is I can now harvest the sweet potatoes, I am in luck the weather is warming up so curing will be simpler. I was getting worried. The trees have been slow to turn, I wonder what they will look like? maybe brown and shriveled on the top with less color?
  6. Born and raised there I can tell you that this culture is caused by racism taken to the extreme. It is senseless and stupid. If your culture says magnolia trees are beautiful then we say they are ugly and we will cut them down. It really is just that bad.
  7. I think you are over due my friend!!
  8. It was a bit garbled through the purse, but you sounded happy!!! Did you give her a bewbie hug????
  9. Na just a minute or 2 after you first got there. You need to listen to the words when you get on the desk top! I do appreciate that yall spoke fondly of me!!
  10. I love his voice. It is hard to believe that Jim Neighbors was a popular vocalist. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgWunR5SjmI

  12. You crack me up! I see you have rubbed off on Jerry
  13. I am not surprised, when I visit dad, every single night there is a murder in Memphis in the black part of town. The black on black crime there is sickening, I believe the white folks care more about them than they do themselves. They vandalize the business in their neighborhoods until they force them to close. White flight is a way of life. I hate the culture of segregation and hatred that it is still prevalent. I hate having people assume that I am racist and that comes from the whites and the blacks when I am home. There are neighborhoods that are so dangerous that even if you are
  14. Not surprised, I am a frequent flyer to Memphis. I started taking flights with Airtran on a regular basis under 150 round trip. The Memphis airport looked like ghost town. They are pulling out and Northwest is taking over, it is a little more expensive and you can not get a non-stop flight. You can get one for Delta round trip for close to 400. Fed ex is based there. They recently built a parking garage for fed-ex employees bigger than the airport. Memphis was a growing city that because of it's central location became a huge distribution point. Memphis is an example of taking companies an
  15. I think if we addressed the issue of kids having so many emotional problems, we would not have to worry so much about weapons. Nick you and I have discussed before that we need to bring behavioral science into our schools to help those that don't get coping skills at home. Soft skills in the higher grades based on some of the same principals prepare children to enter the work force. I am not for the school taking the place of the parent, much of it would probably support what parents are trying to instill in their children at home. Every one that has raised a teen knows the battle
  16. The picture looks like a mouse to me. Any usb device even a cell phone can have a tiny chip that loads to your computer. They generally won't hurt anything.
  17. I agree, is it just me or do the rules almost sound like prison rules as far as what is considered a weapon? I am surprised they allow them to have forks for lunch. When I was in high school it was nothing to see the boys drive up to school with a full gun rack in their truck. Some would squirrel hunt before school, and wear their cammo all day. I guess it was some type of badge of honor to never use weapons in a fight because there were plenty of them among the boys and even some of the girls. I am sure that there were a few depressed kids but not many. There was also some bu
  18. From Micah Gravely, FB page Georgia's Zero Tolerance does not allow for a common sense judgment call to be made when a student unknowingly, accidentally, and without criminal intent brings a pocket knife or another object that is considered a weapon to school. This could adversely impact the student’s educational opportunities after High School, their eligibility to serve in the Armed Forces, or their ability to get a job after High School. I would like to give Superintendents, Principals, and Board Members more flexibility to make a judgment call based on each individual instance, rather th
  19. I think kids need 2 parents in the home. If he had a father in the home he wouldn't dare. Boys go through a stage where they begin to ask themselves why they should mind someone that does not have the physical ability to force them. I explained to my son the my husband's interference was to save him from a trip to the hospital. If not for his dad my soon would have learned the hard way that my husband was not kidding. Mom should have given him his first and only lesson when he got the first few hairs on his nards and bucked up against her.. It really is the same with girls, you have
  20. I am curious about the little test. I will log out of facebook and my google and see if I get a different answer. I suspect that they are mining for info to customize ads to you.
  21. My husband took to it like a fish to water. Under all that Yankee bluster you really are a steel magnolia. We are not all genteel and pretentious. Most people think of New York city when they think of New York. My husband comes from an upstate, small rural village. They are really no different than small town folks all over the country.
  22. Mine said the same and I was raised in Tn. After living a few years in Ct. I knew I was moving back down south forever. I had lived in SC. so I knew I didn't want to move there and I knew I didn't want to live in West TN again. I had never been to Georgia and for whatever reason I simply picked it, got on a train, came down here, found a home went back up north, packed up and came down here. I think that is why I love Paulding so much, I feel like it was my destiny to be here and be part of this wonderful community. This is home to my children, none have plans or ambitions to leave the are
  23. They won't be sorry going with your agency! The service you gave us was over the top. The difference between policies sometimes is just a few dollars. Service is what is most valuable. Thank you again Curt for going over and above to make sure we are protected!!!
  24. I have been through it and now my mother in law is the same. It is the death before the death. You grieve long before they are gone. Some people experience guilt because of it. My prayers are with you and your family it is so hard. It is best to just accept her as she is now. My grandmother bless her heart got in an altercation at the nursing home, she reverted and would act like she was 5or6 on the play ground. She picked a fight and the other resident was defending themselves, pushed her down, broke her hip. She was dead within a week of the surgery. It was a blessing that she never had
