Emotional Child Abuse: The Invisible Plague
ButterflyLion replied to ButterflyLion's topic in RECENT TOPICS
The parents I talk about in my post felt that their behavior was desirable. They raised their children to believe that they were lucky to have them as parents. Their father's attitude when speaking to a son might have been something like: "Boy, you'd be lucky if I let you lick my shoes clean." I don't understand it all, but somehow they programed and conditioned their children into believing being beaten until they bled was normal. As a child got old enough to do anything they were expected to assume responsiblies that parents would normally do. They were expected to take care of their parents -
Emotional Child Abuse: The Invisible Plague

From my experience I would say no, some do not. In one case I meet a family that lived about 14 miles away in a rural part of the County where I lived when I was 17. There were 3 girls still at home at the time. I knew something was wrong, but being young myself and not knowledgeable about anything like that I didn't know what. Years later I learned that both of their parents were alcoholics, and the children were abused both physically and emotionally. Later one of the girls became addicted to prescription drugs. She was known to take a handful at at time and died several years ago at age 40 -
Any day of the year you might find me outside filling my birdfeeders. And if the weather is at all friendly I might take a break for a while and sit on a bench with one of my dogs, Dahlia. We both enjoy sitting outside. I also might ask my Mother to pray for me about something specific if I'm feeling oppressed or discouraged. She is 84 and lives alone since my Dad died 8 years ago. She lives in another state, but I talk to her on the phone every day. Since moving to Paulding County I've been searching for Christian friends, but I haven't made any.

I hope more people become aware of this type of abuse. -
Dr. John Townsend and Dr. Henry Cloud co-authored the book, Boundaries: When To Say Yes, How To Say No, To Take Control Of Your Life. Here's a video of Dr. Townsend on the subject: How do you deal with a drama queen without always being a pawn in their games? Kindness: Some people Respond With UNkindness

Yes, I read that thread, too. This was a thread I started last night, and another member posted that her dog is missing. -
I started a thread last night. One post was made by a member concerning her family's lost dog before another member made many unkind remarks. The purpose of the thread was clearly stated: posting prayer requests for animals. I was not asking for opinions. And I understand when things occasionally get off topic. I have made comments before that weren't alwalys completely about a thread's subject heading before. But in this case the op made 8 posts that were all highly critical of what the thread was about. I am using this as a general example and have not mentioned the poster's name on purpose.

Silver Comet Killer Wants Sentence Thrown Out

When I started a thread last evening I though it would be all caring, sharing, posts. Some times p.com gives us a unique view of how someone else can think... -
I did, too; like when a child goes away to camp or college. (I've found though that even after living in GA for years I still feel "homesick" at times for where I used to live; even though I'm suppose to be all grown-up. ) Do you have any idea what caused your eye to get infected? I hope the antibiotics start to work quickly.

Although it's been a while since this was written; unfortunately it is all too true in today's world: Emotional Child Abuse: The Invisible Plague By Susan Jacoby Reader's Digest, February, 1985 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As I was leaving gym one morning, I overheard a mother berating her daughter for refusing to put her face in the water during a toddlers' swim class. "You're such a little coward," she told the sobbing child -- who could not have been more than three years old. "It's the same every week. You always mak

Premarital Classes: Are They Available In Our Area?
ButterflyLion replied to ButterflyLion's topic in RECENT TOPICS
"The Twogether program continues to build a network of providers by seeking faith-based or other community organizations interested in conducting marital skills courses. These organizations, ranging from churches to counseling centers, bring more than just relationship-building insight to their classes." Since I am a Christian going to classes at a church appeals to me. From what I read though in the Twogether program people have other choices. -
What is available in our area? Here's some information on the Texas program: Curriculum for marriage education courses offered through the Twogether in Texas website must run at least eight hours and focus on helping couples develop communication and conflict resolution skills as well as other tools and skills for maintaining a strong relationship. The classes are conducted by organizations and individuals in each community. The Twogether program continues to build a network of providers by seeking faith-based or other community organizations interested in conducting marital skills cou

Is It Appropriate To Wear Any Type Of Clothing To Church?

Different clothing can be distracting to different people. Looking back I wish I had (1) Seen if I could have moved to a different seat (2) Prayed for the Holy Spirit to reveal to her that there are more appropriate things to wear---especially when others are present; including men other than her husband. If I found myself seated behind a woman with a huge hat I would find that distracting, too. I would try to move to another seat if one was available otherwise I might end up with a neck spasm from trying see the pastor when he was speaking. I've seen some churches in the Atlanta area on T -
There's a video of the report, too: Teens Accused In Jewelry Store Robbery Channel 2's Erin Coleman reports. DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -- Douglasville police are on the lookout for four teens who investigators say are part of a larger group that broke into a jewelry store and stole $14,000 worth of merchandise in a matter of seconds. The smash and grab happened at the Arbor Place Mall shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday. Police Chief Chris Womack told Channel 2 Action News reporter Erin Coleman that the teens rushed into the Jeweler’s Touch store, smashed two jewelry cases with hammers an

I was searching for another thread a few minutes ago and saw this one. I would pray for them---that their eyes would be opened to the damage that they are doing to themselves and others. I didn't see them---except in this thread, but I said a prayer for them anyway.

Is It Appropriate To Wear Any Type Of Clothing To Church?
ButterflyLion replied to ButterflyLion's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Is there anything anyone could do to distract you while you're in church? As I said in another post in this thread not everyone comes to church on any given day for the same purpose---or even with any good purpose. In the small town when I used to live a young man came to church one day with a purpose in mind---murder. AND a teenage girl (his former girlfriend) died that day when he brought a gun to church---with a totally different purpose than that of the others that were present that day. -

There is one thing I haven't seen mentioned in this thread. Just because someone enters a building or is a certain environment doesn't always mean that the person is there for a good purpose. We live in a fallen world. The enemy is looking for representation anywhere he can find it. For example, why do people need so much protection online nowdays? Why do some people choose to misuse their abilities to create viruses that infect computers? Why do the airlines need so much security? There are people (and I hope they're all confined somewhere) that would go to a hospital not to be treated---but -
Winning Is Not Everything, It’s The Only Thing

Some like Moses; as described here focus on a lasting "reward." Hebrews 11:24-27 (New International Version 1984, ©1984) 24 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. 25 He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time. 26 He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. 27 By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible. -

Here's a description of how Adam and Eve used fig leaves to cover themselves: Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Genesis 3:7 NIV
