  1. I looked at their menu online. I noticed they had a few vegetarian items: a veggie lovers pizza and a black bean burger. A couple of their salads looked like they would be vegetarian, too. They also had some side vegetables listed.
  2. I know in this situation as it was all you saw was: "Seventy-two killed resisting gun confiscation in Boston!" Maybe that is acceptable on the site linked to but on a site like p.com I don't like being misled into thinking 72 people just died in Boston regarding "gun confiscation."
  3. Did you add the sub title---or did a mod add one? When I saw it this morning there was only the title making it appear to be a current event. I was concerned when I saw it. As a side note I remember a high school teacher who had her students write articles about a certain period in history as if they were a current events. Then they published them in a newspaper style format.
  4. I think posting that title for the thread on p.com is quite different than on the original source. ETA: I noticed a sub title has been added that wasn't there when I saw it early this morning soon after it was posted. When I saw the thread title there was nothing to indicate that what happened wasn't a current event.
  5. That link also has posted what one black employee, a waiter, says on his Facebook page. This quote is just part of it:
  6. I noticed this series of photos titled "Before The Bikini," at the Weather Channel website. It's shows vintage beach wear, much from hundred years ago or so: By the early 1900s, beach resorts were becoming a popular destination. But water activities such as swimming and diving were a burden due to the bulky Victorian-style swimsuits, especially for the women, the magazine reports. Thus, by the 1920s, fitted swimwear that modestly conformed to the body became a part of beach fashion. Susan Sessions Rugh, an American history professor at Brigham Young University, points out that as the years
  7. When we lived outside of Memphis a bank robber on the most wanted list was caught. Later on an investigative TV show it showed him saying "I'm honest ..." He went on to say that he was honest because he didn't rob people just banks. The customer may have viewed your husband as a jerk but he doesn't sound that objective.
  8. That's why I said "If I saw someone simply tell a customer that they needed to be paid for work done I wouldn't see that as negative or being a jerk." I wasn't saying it couldn't be a negative experience---more that it didn't have to be. Some business owners might respond quickly when they feel a customer is trying to take advantage of them and might not feel stressed about the situation and that could show in the interaction with the customer: calmly stating that _____ amount of work requires _____ amount of payment.
  9. If I saw someone simply tell a customer that they needed to be paid for work done I wouldn't see that as negative or being a jerk. Getting paid is just a necessary part of being in business.
  10. That's one of the types of things I was thinking about when I started the thread.
  11. Did you know before that that she liked blackberries? I don't how blackberries are for a dog's diet---if they are healthy or otherwise. I remember being shocked years ago when I learned how dangerous grapes and raisins are to dogs.
  12. Pubby, thanks for your thoughtful response. I clicked on the video. It looks interesting. I plan to watch it later today. I noticed it's about an hour long.
  13. Your posts are full of insults and petty remarks. Enough said.
  14. Glassdogs, suggesting what I should "think" is politely stated overstepping boundaries as is telling me to go somewhere else if I don't like your response is over stepping boundaries. This forum is open to whomever the owner of the site decides---in this case Pubby. I see what you said in this post as closed minded but I recognize some people think that way and I don't aim to control what you think and so on. Your putting the word "think" in quotes also is not lost on me and broadcasts a superior attitude---rather than one open to new ideas and learning. ETA: I feel a certain number of mem
  15. Postman, I'm not sure what that means. I was just thinking about various situations. I don't know if what I said gave a different impression ...
  16. I mentioned Paula Deen but I was really thinking in general and more towards the future with the possibility that law suits and the like might mean so many financial penalties that it wouldn't be profitable for some to own a business---and at what point that would be good or bad.
  17. The Paula Deen situation and some other things have me wondering if someone who is insensitive to others, etc. should and will be able to have a business in the future? I don't think some behavior should be tolerated and there should be consequences. But how far? I mostly resist using labels but should someone who is basely a "jerk" have the freedom to have a business, have employees, etc.? (I even wondered about what term to use here. It's difficult to keep up with what may be unusually offensive without everyone becoming aware.) It seems that understandably many employees who have j
  18. Where I live there are a lot of kids riding bikes. I really like to see them outside being active. That could change with more traffic. Like you I also enjoy quiet. Others in more urban areas may even welcome noise but I think they should live where the noise already is and not take away those rare quiet places left where some of us like to live. I'm also reminded of the terrible traffic jams that happen when some subdivisions have neighborhood wide yard sales. But those only happen on an annual or semi-annual basis and can be planned for in advance. Who would willingly want to deal with t
  19. One question I have is if several neighbors operate businesses like you mention---that generate very much traffic--where do their customers park?
  20. The newer areas are designed with that in mind and maybe some older areas have enough space, too. In residential areas built with single families in mind I have seen a problems with traffic and parking when their usage was expanded. I know when we rented a place on Long Island for several months before moving to Georgia many people had empty apartments in their basements that they had decorated and done a lot of work to that they had once rented. They were no longer able to rent them because changes had been made in zoning because the area was not designed for the added traffic and parking
  21. Pubby, thanks for sharing that. I can only imagine how many emotions his wife must be feeling. I pray that she has support from others and her beliefs will comfort her in many ways. Is the book you mentioned available in print? I'd like to read it. I noticed amazon.com has it in kindle: http://www.amazon.com/After-The-Storm-ebook/dp/B00A6PY8AW/ref=sr_1_30?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1372881445&sr=1-30&keywords=after+the+storm
  22. Do you have enough to eat? LOL Where have you been that you've found the most healthy food? And vegan?
  23. Clear for her. I want regular rain, including that summer rain smell. LOL
  24. Pubby, to me it sounded like "Jesus...man," which I understand probably would bother few and I doubt I would have posted anything about it at another time before the Deen situation became so widespread. Thanks for posting your views and the facts about the show. As I said I just clicked on the video after watching another one posted here and even though I watched the whole thing I was pretty much thinking pretty quickly I want to get news from other sources.
  25. Someone posted another Paula Deen video and I clicked on this one after watching it. At the end one of the news personalities uses Jesus' name in a way that is disrespectful because of my beliefs. I had never watched the show before but apparently it is has a huge audience. I would like to contact them and just tell them it bothered me as a believer. In general I would just not view future videos of theirs. The Paula Deen situation has me thinking though how sensitive should one person be to what offends another. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsiTNlBGI0I
