  1. You are a tome of knowledge. What do you do for fun? Read ordinances and legislation?
  2. I would like a refund of a little of what I've paid in taxes. When I add it all up, I feel like I spend a good third of my time working for others' benefit. I'm not smart enough to figure out how much I should actually have deducted, so I always file single 0 so I don't get stuck with a big bill at filing time. They keep most of it. Do you think it would be worthwhile to go to an accountant this year to see how much I should have deducted? I would rather keep what I earn during the year than contribute to the US Gov't Robin Hood Account. Especially in these times of furloughs and increase
  3. What replaces the Social Security money you should have put in if you get it all back?
  4. Dang. Yeah, I would rather not know, either. I would love a weeklong Disney adventure. I'm always worried the current year will be the year I have to pay... If Georgia okays same-sex marriage, will you be my wife? We could share a tax break and the yardwork. Yes, this is your official proposal. Let me know...
  5. Because there are pictures of scantily clad women involved.
  6. I hope not. I guess because I don't work in the legal community, I don't view any of the posts as legal advice. I see them as people who have been through really hard times letting others know that life goes on after losing everything and it is possible to begin again. I hope people read every document they get when these situations arise so they are informed of consequences and policies and seek legal counsel if they don't understand them. In that vein, I will offer something constructive: If you are faced with a bad situation and you don't think you need an attorney or don't have mo
  7. I'm not sure why we have a legal disclaimer in this topic. Do we need an attorney to get permission to leave Paulding? Are we truly prisoners and need clemency? I don't think anyone offered legal advice. They were just getting their situations off their chests. Sometimes it helps to vent a little when you are in a tough situation. I'm sorry people are losing their homes. It has to be catastrophic. It must be very hard to talk about, especially when it is insinuated that you are giving other people advice about how to lose their homes. I had a close friend who lost her home about ten ye
  8. What do you think the people who spend all day with your kids should be paid? Minimum wage?
  9. I was just going to complain about all the crap moving in here from Cobb. lol.
  10. Lol. Don't ask. She might tell you. Please don't spread your sunshine in my depressing thread. Thank you.
  11. Many places didn't build on every piece of available land, build too many schools to support without raising taxes, and have industry in line with the number of residents. We have too many people and not enough jobs. There are places that haven't been impacted to this extent. Places with better planning and foresight.
  12. Maybe the market will rebound before you decide. If I knew it would be OK in 5 years, I wouldn't feel so worried. But I don't like how things are going. I hope we can come back from this, but since my house value has decreased about 30%, I have lost faith. I can barely afford my own healthcare and kids and home. I don't want to pay for somebody else's. I know that is bad, but if you make some of us pay too much more, we will have to join them. I don't see the way out. I'm not sure time will fix this mess. How long will I have to wait before I at least even out? I'm getting older. Time
  13. I think some people have to. I'm sure they don't want to. Can you imagine the stress of it? If the bank gets the house back, and they sold it to people who maybe couldn't afford it, they should suck it up. Dirty business they were doing.
  14. I liked it here, too, until I felt trapped here. I don't like to be trapped. I think that's why I will NEVER get remarried. That's another thing. Many people buy a house based on the school district. When they move the lines, you get stuck in the wrong district.
  15. We are raised to think, "Your house is the most important investment you will ever make. As long as you own a house you will be OK." I feel cheated. I think you are being very smart. I would MUCH rather be trapped near the beach.
  16. Lol. You will be the last remaining resident of Paulding that didn't inherit family land.
  17. I think the feeling is spreading. Maybe it is just frustration from the economy, but I can't help but feel like we asked for this housing collapse with all the new construction we allowed in this county. We should have limited more so values would have been mostly retained. There are still places where housing prices held pretty well. It is the boom towns that are suffering the most now. I don't know why they are still building. I don't have a good answer for that. I think I would prefer a little crowding opposed to extra room. I think maybe Paulding has achieved critical mass~ we are as b
  18. I love the people here, but hate that I have lost my butt in the housing market. If my house would sell tomorrow, I'm not sure I wouldn't move. I never thought too hard about leaving until I figured out I can't afford to leave. I know several people who had to just let the bank have their house back so they could look for better living conditions somewhere else. Are you trapped here?
  19. Why are more kids and more teacher jobs a good thing? Why do we want all these schools? That is a lot to support over time. There are empty classrooms in Paulding because many people who moved here have been forced to leave. That means empty houses that won't be sold anytime soon and full houses that wish like hell they could be sold soon. It's never a good idea to build more houses than you have a sufficient industry base to support. People are tired of driving to Atlanta from here. They are moving closer to I-20 and 75 so they don't have to hit all those lights and traffic on 278 a
  20. I send in a check for $20 at the beginning of the year and a note saying I don't allow my child to participate in fundraising campaigns. If everyone did this, maybe they would leave us alone. The only fundraiser I like is the cookie dough sales. those are at least a good bargain. I didn't know about the sports fundraising money. It would be dishonest for a school to spend that money any other way than the reason it was collected. I would keep your eye on this...

    WTH?!?

I think the Poll Troll is hilarious. What a great way to irritate the snot out of everybody. Brilliant. (I voted "NO", let the troll live.)
  22. I was just trying to get your goat. lol. I've had my pay cut enough. It would be OK if we didn't have the huge raise to our insurances (all of them, I have a bunch because I don't expect other citizens to pay for me or my children) at the same time. We don't get paid for summer (all glorious five weeks this year) or time off, our checks get broken into 12 parts instead of 10. Paulding and other counties are paying the price for building too many houses and not having the industry tax base to support the schools needed to educate the students who live in those houses. Now we are broke
  23. I didn't mean student financing. The other poster was going on about what things should be cut in schools. You can't mess with federal tax dollar appropriations or they will take the federal monies away. While discussion helps people air their grievance and vent, I hope everybody realizes the school boards of Georgia are going to do whatever they want to do. I'm sure most already have a plan and are just waiting for the right time to spring it on the public.
  24. You have seven years of college? You should look into school financing more. You have your federal and state dollars confused. Schools can't just spend on what they want/need, a little thing called appropriation calls for specific expenditures. If I wanted to make less money, I would do what you do.
  25. I waited a few days and then I had to ask someone who it was. I hadn't been notified because she doesn't teach my child. But I knew her. For a long time. She was a wonderful person and had a smile that would light up a room. She was good and honest and caring. Delaying posting this lady's name is also delaying all condolences, grieving, and support that may be offered at this time. Many people still don't know she's gone. RIP.
