See, that's the problem with the 20% POS portion of our population. They create huge headaches for the rest of us. Why should we have to make decisions like this for humans (like I said before, people who aren't productive are like PETS, this is a PET decision)? If they want to be supported like pets, we are going to eventually have to make pet decisions for them. Nature, and our government, intended to take care of elderly people who had put in their years of productivity with government aid. They don't reproduce often. This shouldn't be a problem. Disabled people who can't care for thems

Having a messed up family member is costly. Most families have one: the deadbeat or the addict or the loco one or the mean one or the alcoholic or the pervy one, etc. Even "nice" families usually have a black sheep. Ever watch that show "Intervention"? Family members try to save the messed up one until they have gone broke. At this point, they just need to take her kids away. Save what can be saved. Take her uterus, too, while they are at it.

That's messed up. I'm sure she did it for the grandkids, not the crazy daughter. There are a LOT of grandparents raising kids now. We have lost about a quarter of my generation to slackness/drug addiction/selfishness/craziness. I wonder why.

That's a tough call. You need your job, but he shouldn't prosper. I'm sure situations like this are more common than the rest of us know. I vote let him shut his business down. Human dignity should always be number one. Would a healthcare plan pay your mortgage and bills? That is gonna be one helluva heathcare plan, I guess.

I'm down with green! Yeah, I think you read it correctly, near as I can tell. I cracked up. I'm pretty sure Lucky wouldn't be soused on a church day, so I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt. Ding, ding, ding. She's a tiny blonde! You must have had your second cup of coffee... She's not Solo, though.

Haha. This whole thread was hilarious. So now New Hope is the 'Hood. What are our colors, just so I know?

I'm so sick of hearing that. Everybody that is still employed is GLAD to have a job. Really. Don't think we're not. BUT, just because we are employed and it is tough times, it isn't OK for employers to do whatever they want to do to take advantage of the situation. Jobs are given and worked in good faith. Taking advantage of workers because of a rise in unemployment is employee gouging. It isn't open season on workers. Employers should assume instead that they have retained their best and brightest workers and should do everything the can to make the workers feel appreciated and s

Gawd men are babies.

She has bled them dry and probably embarrassed them greatly. Isn't the home she lost her mother's home? Her dad gave her all the money he had. How terrible that she has destroyed everything they have worked to gain. Parents can't control grown children, so her parents couldn't stop her. Now to be involved with the grandchildren and be around to make sure all the kids are safe, they had to lose everything. Messed up situation. As much as I thought the Jon and Kate Plus 8 people were bouchedags, at least Kate makes sure the kids have a home.

I'm sure this was a dig, but I can't tell because I can't tell what you mean. My post, however, had a point and made sense. I think you might be a little overly sensitive. Especially since you started this thread. That is always a creepy quality in a grown man. I'll let the irony of you trying to call me out (or anyone else) for having a negative attitude, not speaking intelligently, or questioning my level of education slip. I'm going to assume you stopped by for a few after work before you went home and posted your rant. Pretty funny, though.

I don't dislike people on Welfare, even the ones abusing the system. I don't wish they were dead. If they are truly lazy enough to die in the streets, they don't value their own life. That is a choice. THEIR choice. I don't feel responsible for their choices. I am responsible for MY choices and my children's choices until they grown. I didn't give birth to all those folks: I don't want to be their "mother" by feeding, housing, and clothing them. It isn't a criminal act to make people take care of themselves. I think time limits are a fair way to regulate the system. Or money limits. That w

There needs to be some social stigma. Some people have no shame. I like the jumpsuit idea. Huxley at least thought about it more than most Americans do. This is scary: The total cost of all federal assistance programs -- including Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and various welfare programs -- accounts for nearly one-half of all money spent by the federal government. That is a doubling of the percentage that obtained in the 1960s. Source: http://usa.usembassy.de/society-socialsecurity.htm

Who wants to live at home in their 20s? Isn't there partying to do?

They are educating two schools of students in one school. Theoretically it saves 50% of the money they would spend on operating two schools. There must be one school closed for each doing double sessions. They use the elementary building for elementary classes in the morning and middle school classes in the afternoon, same with high school/middle school.

Hardworking people don't receive benefits any longer than they absolutely have to. These folks aren't the problem. If we put limits on the services, it wouldn't harm these people.

I know my posts seem harsh, but I have educated myself on poverty by taking classes and keeping up on the research. Enabling just isn't helping. Welfare isn't a great way of life. If children are raised on the system and are never given any reason not to do better, they won't. We have to fix this if the parents are too sorry to do it. Generational poverty isn't a circumstance, it is a way of life. It isn't OK to raise kids in poverty IF you don't have to. It does some bad things to them. It takes away the sense of security all children should have, life experiences all children should have

She is rich, famous, and beautiful. I think she'll be OK.

Subby's story relates how the system *used to* work, as intended. It was there if you needed it. People only used it as a last resort. There are families now with GENERATIONS on Welfare. That is how we can discern who is abusing the system. If Welfare was your grandmother's "job", and your mom's "job", and you are working on making a baby so it can be your "job", that is a problem. That is Welfare abuse. Maybe Welfare should skip a generation. Why is it considered a cruelty by some to make people take care of themselves? I truly don't get that. Somebody please explain it to me.

Haha. You have to stop posting about this. I usually just go along about my business and stay out of everyone else's. When I got to thinking about people blowing money that is taken from others on vacations, it made me a bit angry. I would at least like EIC to go for an LCD big screen. That has some lasting benefit and will be around when the tan fades... I assume these topics are appearing on Pcom in droves because, a.) NavyEagle doesn't get out enough, or b.) People are getting tired of working harder and not getting the "perks", or c.) Many of us have taken steps to make more money

So what do you get when you lie or cheat or steal, and treat everyone that has ever cared for you like crap? You get the rest of us paying your bills. There is no real consequence for crappy behavior anymore. If you ruin your credit and criminial background and find someone to reproduce with you, you get the all-expense-paid lifestyle. Those people laugh at the rest us. Not as we are leaving for work, they are still asleep, but on our way home when they are rolling out of the house to hang around and do nothing for a bit before they go lay around some more. Enablers are just as at faul

We have free schools. Welfare recipients (not talking about the disabled or people unable to work, just those that could if they wanted) are given vouchers for free day care and, in Georgia, can go to college for free ala HOPE. The federal government has Pell Grants that allow anyone with low income and dependents to go to college for free. If they don't have dependents and aren't disabled then why, WHY, aren't they working? Businesses get tax credits for hiring folks from the Welfare rolls. We already do all that. Should we buy them all a new car if they get a job? Send them on a free vacatio

There is a science to poverty. Anyone who has bothered to seek answers knows "underclass" is condition caused mostly by bad choices. You have it wrong, the "underclass" is perfectly happy with itself... This is America. Even the poorest among us is rich compared to other nations. Why? Because we take care of them MUCH better than many areas of the world. But, giving too much to people takes away their will to do better. I think liberals create more poverty by giving folks a means to have their basic needs met without effort on their part. Why even try if you don't have to? Drugs, poor

nm. Doesn't matter. People can do what they want.

I would think that if I didn't know that I am earning more, paying more taxes, probably ending up with the same amount per month as a person making less money, and I don't get the free vacation. Sucks from my end. Everybody have fun on vacation and drop me a postcard. I'll be here making sure you get a vacation next year... When did it become acceptable to take what you didn't earn? When did that happen? Isn't EIC a newer thing? (I looked, 1975, our generation.) "For tax year 2009, a claimant with one qualifying child can receive a maximum credit of $3,043. A claimant with two qua

Thank you. It is enlightening reading some of y'alls posts. I think I need to pay more attention to my money and how I manage it. Just trying to live within my means isn't enough. No telling how much I am wasting by making uninformed decisions. I don't mind people with kids getting a little extra if it helps them keep their homes and buy things they have been needing all year. I hope Hee Haw is joking about the vacation, but I have a feeling it does happen in some households.
