There was a segment on HBO's Real Sports showing many retired players suffering from dementia directly related to multiple concussions and recently, it was announced Alex Karas has dementia. Yes, there inherent risks in contact sports but better treatment of concussions could prevent players from being vegetables, allowing them to have a good quality of life after their playing days.

The part where Zimmerman asks if he should follow Martin while he is running away and is told by the dispatcher "you don't need to do that".

If Zimmerman didn't get out of his vehicle, the incident wouldn't have happened.

Zimmerman was told by the police dispatcher to let the police handle it. Zimmerman was a self-appointed neighborhood watch patrolman. Zimmerman by virtue of getting out of his vehicle and confronting Martin, provoked the confrontation. Any reasonable person should have followed the instructions of the police department.

Had the case been handled properly from the outset, there would be a lot less speculation.
