  1. *shrug* so those of us that go to see the actual parade and not get bunches of junk candy shouldn't go? Why not enforce a rule already in place? By the way, Kudos to those passing out candy rather than tossing it! I'm sure it was more difficult, but it does make a difference to those who want to actually SEE the parade. I guess the question is-who are you doing it for and why? The citizens of Dallas or is it to toss out candy? I guess i don't see why they can't enforce an existing rule to make it better for all involved. I understand it must be incredible amounts of work for those setting it u
  2. I know there are ways it can be enforced. Perhaps when each application comes in, it needs to be addressed to the entrant. It may not be an issue for some, but it is for a lot of others. There was an autistic boy beside us who also could't have candy and was as frustrated as we were. It's not just a 'me' problem. The trash issue would be greatly reduced. nobody would be darting in front of floats and there woudln't be a reason for greedy, pushy kids and their parents.
  3. Yeah-East Paulding was fantastic! And, I thought North Paulding did a nice job for its size.
  4. Nobody? I thought they had done this a few years, but maybe not.
  5. We finally gave up and left just as the boy scouts passed. We even watched the chick on the back of one of the sheriff office's 4 wheelers throwing candy. Every single float but one which I believe to be a church threw candy. Yes, kick them out. Yes, it's a safety issue. It needs to be addressed.
  6. But if they were required to pass it out rather than fling it, then that wouldn't be an issue.
  7. I would like to see a major crackdown on candy period. No slinging it from the floats or other entries at all for example. And for a theme what about something like Hope for Christmas or something related to the fact we can come thru adversity like a flood and recession and still thrive.
  8. Yes, and those of us who have kids who cannot have candy would like to be able to watch the parade without being mauled by candy hungry hoarders. Kids being kids need to have manners parade or not. And if the parents are just as bad-why should we expect anything more of the children.
  9. Has anybody gone to the 655 West Christmas deal with Santa they do? What did you think?
  10. Seriously, the trash problem would be greatly reduced if they would just really crack down and make it 'against the rules' to throw candy at all. People will still leave trash behind-just happens in a society who doesn't really care, but if you took candy completely out of the mix, they'd have a lot less mess.
  11. My problem was not with traffic or crowds. My problem was and has always been with bratty inconsiderate kids and their parents. We got to the parade one hour early. We found our 'spot' with some other families on the edge of the curb and put our chairs and blanket down. I finally had to be kinda pushy to the bratty kids and adults that kept pushing and standing right in front of my two just so they could get some candy. Can they not outlaw candy? I ended up telling this one mom and her kid that we'd gladly buy them bags and bags of candy if they would just get out from in front of us and stop
  12. I will call her and let her know..

  15. You should be able to call the county DOT to ask them. I'm sure the areas that flooded in September are flooded again...
  16. I passed along information I was given. Mods-you can shut this thread. There's a reason I hardly post anymore. It's not worth the people who SUCK on here.
  17. Jess575 and I went up to visit Phillip tonight. I was sad. He wasn't even feeling well enough to give me a hard time. Right now, they can't get his blood sugar to level out. It's bouncing from very high to extremely low. I believe Denise planned to go home tonight to get some rest and return early in the am. You can call the number listed above (but the battery on that phone is dead right now) or call Cobb Hospital ask for Phillip Bass's Room 384-A. He's definitely uncomfortable. Right now-I don't know much else. I'm sure something to cheer up Denise and Phillip would be most welcome, but I
  18. I don't know-I hadn't really talked to them in a long time unitl tonight-Jess575 and I are on our way up to Cobb as soon as we can..
  19. Denise just called me--Phillip is in kidney failure at Cobb Hospital Rm 384-A Denise is quite shaken-a number to reach them is 678-654-9447. I have no further information now, other than wanting to do dialysis.
  20. Use 'flour and water clay'-recipe should be able to be found under google for 'homemade playdough' or homemade clay. Use a pizza box bottom (cut off the 'lid') lined with saran wrap (lots of layers=even up the sides and around the bottom) Put a large qt size jar in the center and secure with glue or adhesive. Then use your homemade clay to build a 'cone' all the way to the top. Paint as desired. Put 'dirt' in the bottom of the box and 'plant' trees-use imagination there. Then, pour 3/4-1cup of baking soda into the bottom of the jar. Then, add some drops of red food coloring. The volcano can
