The news reminded that for those who think they've done their duty by sending a text message to get money to the red cross that it will take MONTHS for any of that to actually reach Haitians IF it ever does. The money is held by the phone company for a period of time before it's released to the red cross and they may or may not actually use it in Haiti! Just because it's the Red Cross doesn't mean it's the BEST option out there for reaching the Haitians quickly. SOmewhere is a thread listing all kinda other options for giving to other organizations that will get immediately to the relief effor

The longer it holds off-the more likely it is to be snow with temperature drops. Now, in Illinois last night-they got snow. Real snow. Now blowing snow and nobody is traveling today. http://wrc.gettingaroundillinois.com/winterroadconditions/

Petried Forest Painted Desert Mammoth Cave (would do this rather than Clarksville for sure!) Yosemite And actually-there's any number of Nat'l parks all along your route you might want to pick up a visit to. Don't forget national monuments, too. Oh forgot Mt. Lassen/Manzanita Lake and Redwoods -
61/Hart Rd intersection. And, it's always a really good one.

The Night Tree We do a tradition based on a book called 'The Night Tree'. On Christmas Eve day, we spend a few hours making 'nature friendly' ornaments like pinecone birdfeeders, popcorn strands, raisins, dried fruit and such. As dusk falls, we gather up flashlights and bundle up and pack up all that we've made. Then, we go into the woods a bit and find a small pine tree and we decorate it with our 'Christmas for the Animals' decorations and sing a couple of carols. Then we trek back and sing carols on our street, and have hot chocolate and cookies after. If you read the book, it's really

Remember, we left less than an hour in--so I wasn't referring to the WHOLE parade, just the little bit we watched. Just to clear that up.
