  1. There is the website The Oil Drum where you can engage in these types of discussions with actual real oil industry analysts and folks who work on the ground in the oil industry and get answers that detail what the hell is really going on these days. You may have to go back several pages/weeks in the main postings but some of the information contained on that site is rather in-depth on what's happening with the energy markets on a global scale. Just a forewarning, yes they discuss peak oil on the site in many of the articles, and many are geared toward defining what "peak" oil is, and whet
  2. News reported something on the order of 6,000 lightening strikes in Paulding with this last cell that went through. I think about half of those were within 3 miles of my house. We had quarter size hail and high winds, we're about 2 miles south of downtown Dallas, it's easing off now but this stuff isn't tracking like normal storms it's coming in from the west and then rotating south, and there's more behind it. And for the first time ever we have all our dogs and cats cowering together all around my wife for comfort. And our youngest dog is shaking uncontrollably and panting.
  3. What you can do is call up Nick's Greek-to-Go Restaurant on MLK Jr. Drive in Atlanta. Order a big order and ask him to ship it to you. After which he'll curse you out in both English and Greek and slam down the phone. I mean if you can't enjoy the food you can at least enjoy the atmosphere.
  4. I came down with a 24 hour head cold 2 weeks ago today, ran a fever of 102 for about 12-15 hours, fever broke, then I shared it with the wife, cos I'm a giving sort. Sinus and chest congestion has remained now for about 2 weeks, and is finally seeming to clear up. Only bad thing for me is that it brought back my, what's turning into chronic, inner ear infection so I'm on anti-biotics again for the 3rd time in 8 months.
  5. I ended up having to change format and rename mine to make it work, seems the image is tagged. I've had images I've posted up show an error on other computers but still seen it fine on mine. They do all sorts of crap these days to prevent reposting images so they can get everyone to go to the site so they get those nice pop-ups.
  6. Hmm.. This all I see.. and about to fix mine
  7. Nov 13, 2007 - Governor Sonny Perdue Prays For Rain in Georgia Sep 25. 2009 - Five dead in Georgia flooding; governor declares emergency Seems to be two lessons here: God has a backlog almost 2 years long. and.. Be careful of what you pray for.
  8. This is a famous famous scam known for years that they would do. There was even and entire website setup and devoted to the Sears Strut scam at one time in the late 90's. The thing is that they would withhold your car keys refusing to let you drive the car until you paid them for the new strut or struts. Spent a moment trying to google this up but internet is so diluted with Sears scam pages for all sorts of work my Google-Fu is failing me, but there's even a reference in a early 90's LA Times article how this strut issue ended up being left out of a class action suit settled in 92. So
  9. My only concern is which state all these dope heads are now going to flock to? Possibly the closest one that shares the longest border with Florida? This isn't a fix it's just another pass the buck band-aid.
  10. One Million Dollars? Umm.. looks like controller has been talked about in the conference today.. console specs coming later. Availability starting in April 2012 So you guys are safe for this X-mas. Here's a breakdown from someone who was at the E3 conference today:
  11. First are you sure you can actually get the service, and have you talked to a rep? ATT has no problems with advertising this service in areas where it's unavailable, just because you might have gotten a flyer in the mail saying to "upgrade" to their "new" service for a "deal" does not specifically mean it's available. Second, there's been many complaints about the quality of the HD, if you are upgraded to watching DirecTV in HD, or plan on doing so in the future, then the image quality will be a downgrade going to U-Verse. U-Verse puts internet, IPTV, VOD, and HD services all one bandwi
  12. I think it's just poetic license for the folks who put together the flyover. I don't think that anyone will know exactly how the road will be widened until they are done doing all the Right of Way negotiations and more surveys. Also missing from the site now is the pdf files on how they were going to try to accommodate a "historic" farm area with the widening since the farm spans both sides of the road and the size of the road with the sidewalks and bikepaths along with the sound barriers would eat up a huge chunk of this land regardless. So there were aerial surveys showing a jog in that
  13. No Biggie it seems there's several different versions of this show, Aus, British, etc.. and it gets confusing even to me considering some of his shows have different names in other countries. Also: Yuck!
  14. Gator Guy was scary but I've seen worse slinging hash at the Waffle House at 4am. Also I'm not too partial to gator myself it's got a very odd taste. And I thought tonight was the first Ep for this season as well?
  15. Watching now. Forgot it was coming on tonight and the wife gonna be upset as she just ran out for a milkshake.. but I'll tell her that Ramsay yelled at everyone so she'll be caught up.
  16. Short Answer: The EPA said FU to GA. Long Answer: In the mid 90's the Feds froze highway expansion funds because of air quality problems within the Metro Atlanta Area, of which Paulding county is part of. State roads that were in the planning stages, like 92, got completely chopped off and cycled to the bottom of the to do list. But counties outside the metro area were able to recoup some of those funds for their own projects leading to nice wide state highways out in the middle of nowhere. Bonus: I believe Hwy 61 was also supposed to be widened from I-20 to 278 as a post Hwy 9
  17. Per Dslreports.com via their frontpage news and AT&T forums AT&T has STOPPED putting any more money into DSL / U-Verse projects, they are solely focusing on the Wireless market as a way to deliver broadband to the last mile. Anyone waiting for DSL to show up on their street can forget about it now, and if you're waiting for them to increase speeds on their wired services, that's now a wash too. If I could get a stable enough wireless signal here at the house, LOS tower issues on my end, I'd drop all their services completely and tether my home network to a wireless device that's n
  18. D'oh, yeah it's 6 lanes from Fairburn to Carruth, then it will be 4 lanes from Carruth to Nebo.. The website has changed/updated a lot of info from May 1 of this year, the phase plans weren't even on the site until recently. I just figure the D-ville side will begin in 2015 as it's looking now but not start in Paulding until sometime later. AFAIK from other sources the bulk of the monies will be coming from the State/Federal level, much of it already being secured, but I do know Paulding will still have to put up some matching funds. I wish I had saved the pdf of the high
  19. Has anyone been keeping up with the http://www.gahwy92.com/ website? 20 years after we were told the Highway 92 4-lane would start any day now (okay I know the deal behind why it didn't get a greenlight), the plans have changed and it's now going to be 6 lanes from Carruth Parkway to Fairburn Road complete with sidewalks on both sides with a bike path along with a greenspace median in the middle. I had looked earlier this year and all dates were pertaining to meetings being held last summer, but it's been updated recently for new meetings about the various Right of Ways in Douglas coun
  20. I use my Nexus One android phone and the FBReader app that provides copyright expired books for free via their library network, there's also a Kindle app for the Android OS as well.
  21. I've heard nothing but horror stories about the Hospitals in Cambodia, especially Phnom Phen, this is why I stress having a good insurance while vacationing in SE Asia so that you can be airlifted to Bangkok for any reason. Here is something to read taken from some ex-pat forums
  22. It's even more popular for Aussies, in fact it's gotten so popular that the Australia governmnet is trying to change it's laws to where you cannot receive your pension checks if you choose to retire to SE Asia.
  23. From what I understand Thailand is a fairly "Westernized" country, everyone there can speak understand English, and Bangkok seems to be a city everyone who visits SE Asia falls in love with. Many things are priced in US Dollars and most places will accept dollars instead of having you to change it to Baht. Also you can take a plane from Bangkok over to Cambodia for less than $100 and spend a day or several days seeing Angkor Wat and a few other temples in the area. But I do know that as with any country outside the US there are those who are very poor and many seek to take advantage of "fa
  24. I would like to be friendly and help but I'm on my 3rd bout of having a upper sinus / inner ear infection and he'd probably arrest me for stumbling around as I feel like I'm walking on a crab boat every time I stand up and move around.
