  1. Let's take a look at some big union industries thru history: Coal Miners: Unionized years ago because of conditions and treatment. These unions stayed in place long after their effectiveness. There are miners that make MORE because of unionized wages than the skilled engineers with advanced degrees that keep them safe and in a job. Steel Workers: Unionized years ago because of conditions and treatment. Where had the steel industry gone? Overseas, because worker unions put the companies out of business with high wages and benefits. Auto Workers: Unionized years ago because of
  2. Your original plat might work as long as it is current and has a whole long list of criteria met. I can scan and e-mail you all the criteria sheet if you'd like.
  3. It is costly. You fill out the form, but you also have to have your property surveyed and pay the $250 application fee plus a $50 deposit on the variance signs that have to be posted. I will update my progress.
  4. I am going to apply for a Zoning Variance to be able to keep 6 chickens on my 1.37 acres. Has anyone gone thru this and won? I have support from neighbors and have had my survey done. Just waiting on my plat from the survey.
  5. Here is a link to the bill: http://www1.legis.ga.gov/legis/2007_08/pdf/hb1133.pdf We are looking at several private schools (no debate or comments about this needed) and some schools participate in this and some do not. A couple that use it are explaining it as a dollar for dollar match on your taxes, but when I read it, it seems like it is a credit towards your tax liability and will only reduce taxes owed to zero. Does anyone have any personal experience with this? Thoughts? TIA!
  6. Thanks!! I swear 2 days ago it was the other one! Oh well.....either way, will be taking the boy to see it today!
  7. My husband and son are going for the first time! I saw on the site, that the truck will be at Little Caesar's at 278/61. Here is a link: http://www.monsterjam.com/Events/2012/01/14/Atlanta,_GA/
  8. We have had our own business for the past 9 years. We have tried to grow smart and grow slow. So many small business owners jump in whole hog and don't know what they are getting into. Both my husband and I are very involved in the business and we know the job we expect of our employees and have done the job ourselves. I mainly cook the books now, as well as staying home with our 2 young children. I have a business degree from a pretty decent college (Washington and Jefferson College if anyone wants to Google it). I was a mid-level manager for the company we are now under contract wit
  9. If you decide your child should be able to leave school after finals and send in a note saying so, but are not able to pick them up, PLEASE do yourself, your child, and the public a favor!! Please educate them how to properly walk down a VERY busy state highway, like Hwy. 61! Couple of hints: 1. Walking with traffice is not safe. 2. Walking in groups 3-4 abreast is not safe. 3. Crossing the street on a hill is not safe. This road is busy and is not a place for kids to walk home via! Think parents....THINK! And those that ask, yes, I called the school board and they said
  10. Well, f me and every small business owner! How does GA expect to grow the job base when it is a struggle for small businesses to pay this kind of increase.
  11. I have to agree a little with the questioning of who paid for this police escort for some political and religious pilgrimage thru Paulding Co. I can think of plenty of other things those officers could have been doing around the county besides this!
  12. My husband saw it also and said it was the strangest thing he'd witnessed. Police escorting a white truck with 2 runners in jeans carrying a torch. He said there was a picture in the bed of the truck of maybe Jesus or the Virgin Mary. (Don't ask how he would not be able to tell!!) Interested to hear if anyone else knows what it was all about!
  13. That is what I was wondering: Did you free range them all the time? We have a mobile coop and fence area that is netted. They free range only if we are out. I am still scared something could get in.
  14. It did look bad. Hope all are OK. When are people going to realize, it takes a big truck a lot more room to stop than a car. I don't know the details of the accident, but it looked to me like someone tried to beat the truck while pulling out onto 61. They did not make it before the truck. Everyone gives trucks a hard time, but often it is lack of foresight by other drivers that lead to accidents involving trucks.
  15. Love both these places!! Also (a little further away but awesome) is Glen Ella Springs http://www.glenella.com/ or BeechWood Inn http://www.beechwoodinn.ws/ Enjoy whatever you are able to plan!
  16. Like 2 others: Near Pittsburgh, PA!!! Go Black and Gold (Not yellow, because I grew up with the real Steel Curtian and not the pop song!)
  17. Agree!! I switched to him from a doctor in Woodstock that delivered in Canton thinking closer to home would be better. WRONG! 4 visits was all it took for me to switch back from Dr. Vera. I was never once seen within even 30 minutes of my appointment time. (Now, I understand that his business is a little driven by someone in labor, but all 4 times!?!) My daughter (who was only 9 mo. and strapped in a stroller that hardly fit in the exam room) was not once acknowledged by him. He always seemed to be in too big of a rush to even answer questions.
  18. I know the house in my subdivision has not been cleaned up. I can help, just not sure how to go about it. Do I scrub with bleach or just paint over it with other spray paint or sand? The house is vacant and a person in our neighborhood had been kindly mowing it for well over a year now. He isn't sure about how to fix it either. Let me know!
  19. It isn't my house. The house that was tagged is bank owned. I just fixed the fence so you can't read the tag. I am not sorry I did it. I am sorry that this is happening and no one else seems to think that they should care for the community or neighborhood where they live. Community involvement starts with YOU!
  20. I turned the fence boards around from the tagging done in our subdivision. Here is before and afters: And do you think any of the neighbors that drove in stopped to help the WOMAN out there in the heat doing this alone? Nope!
  21. I nursed both my kids and did a child lead weaning approach. Both weaned a little after about a year. I think 2 is a little old to nurse in public, but that is not for me or a gov't body to decide. Don't you think there are far better things for Forest Park to focus on? Most nursing Mom's I know do not perform any acts of indecancy while nursing! I have seen more skin at some of the High Schools I have deliverd to than I have from a nursing Mom!!!
  22. We can blame the bridge or the sharp turn onto or out of Winndale, but let's be honest: It is all because people drive like idiots! 1. If you turn onto 61 to make a left onto Winndale, take the new bridge and road that were just put thru with our tax $$$$. 2. If you know the turn is tight and know you might have to sit in traffic trying to get out onto 61, plan ahead and leave early so you don't have to be stupid and pull out in front of someone! 3. HANG UP and drive. Put the lipstick back in the purse and apply it when you get to where you are going. Ignore the kids and t
  23. My business is regulated and there are somethings that I feel should be regulated. These "vendors" are driving on our streets and selling to children. I will never let my kids buy from them, but who knows what kind of people these are. Do they have a record? Do they use drugs while driving a converted 1980's van that probably needs maintenance?
  24. It is 8:45 pm. We just had an ice cream truck with it's stupid music blaring come down our street. Really?!?! My kids were put to bed a little while ago and my daughter just called down, "Why that car playing music like that after I go to bed?" She is 3! Even she knows you don't try to sell ice cream after dark!! Are there any county regulations about this kind of thing? All of the vendors we see in our neighborhood look very shady. Is there no business license required to operate an ice cream truck?
