  1. What do you think about my attitude as represented by my topic? What kind of person would I be, if I actually felt that way? Help me understand what many, many, people in Georgia told William T. Sherman, when he marches his troops through Georgia. I really need help here, because I can't believe what Sherman said. Here's his quote: Many and many a person in Georgia asked me why we did not go to South Carolina; and, when I answered that we were en route for that State, the invariable reply was, "Well, if you will make those people feel the utmost severities of war, we will pard
  2. Here in Georgia, is my stomping grounds. I have never been to Illinois. I don't know those people. But, I do know my own people. I love my fellow Georgians. Nevertheless, it's knowing them that counts! I know their good sides, and I know their bad sides. I have been watching morality as thoughts in the Ivy League. I have learned a lot about my way of thinking. I have not had to learn about my fellow Georgians, because they taught me. Being taught is not the same thing as learning for oneself. People who come to Georgia knows only part of what I know about this state. It has not a
  3. I was thinking that there is more water on Earth than anything else on its surface. If the water has to be desalted it can cost from just under $1 to well over $2 to produce one cubic meter (264 gallons) of desalted water from the ocean. That's about as much as two people in the U.S. typically go through in a day at home. But, if that cost can be considered, when trying to get away from gasoline, it's worth considering. Of course, gas is way less than $1.00 a gallon in Arabia, and that would not be feasible there!
  4. You've seen my big building, Subby! I would liked to have talked to you about it. But, if you already have plans, I figure they have been made binding.
  5. "The rich alone use imported articles, and on these alone the whole taxes of the General Government are levied... Our revenues liberated by the discharge of the public debt, and its surplus applied to canals, roads, schools, etc., the farmer will see his government supported, his children educated, and the face of his country made a paradise by the contributions of the rich alone, without his being called on to spend a cent from his earnings."
  6. Thanks for fixing my typo, H h S, and I'm glad you found it funny. I think you needed a little laugh. So, you operate in the real world, instead of generalities? That didn't seem to be what you were doing in reply #23. How do you figure you were doing that?
  7. In life, as in the courthouse, when the competition starts, or when the world starts coming after you, you'd better have yourself a really good strategy and know the rules of the game, or the bad guys will be dividing up what used to be yours. The status-quo can take care of themselves.
  8. The government is necessary because of corruption among people. It's the smartest people who do more damage to this country than a bunch of dumb arses does. This country's most vital resource is its people. When the smartest of us quit utilizing the resources, including the most vital of them, without fully supporting the country's growth, in educating the public, etc., etc., Things will start improving. But, You are right, e_s! What you said makes a lot of sense, sir!
  9. That is indeed good for you, but the blanket statement you made by use of the words only, everybody, and you are going to, is not just about you, and your family. In #23 you said: "As long as the Government is in the middle of this, it will only get worse." How do you Know? "If they had let companies fail, like they should have, it would have been bad for a year or two." Where did you get that understanding? "You are going to see tent cities spring up and food lines (circa 1930's)." I don't know about that. "Crime rates will go up, it's already started." Maybe crime is going
  10. Go back H h S, and read #19 reply. Cash is not being hoarded by the people with money.
  11. Consumers are ready for a little luxury. Despite cutting back in other areas, such as dining, they are showing a clear preference for select high-end apparel brands, such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Burberry. After taking a hit at the height of the recession, sales of luxury goods have rebounded strongly, up 10%-12% last year in the U.S., according to estimates by Telsey Advisory Group, a retail equity research firm. Comparatively, retail sales across the board rose just 6%. "People are willing to pay a premium on something that delivers on luxury," noted Milton Pedraza, the CEO of the
  12. We spend to much time craving the status-quo. I know it has a lot to do with our culture. It's normal practice to stick with tradition. It's customary to have a background like everyone else has around here. But, some of us crave the status quo even when their circumstances have never been sorrier. They do NOT, want change, even change for the better. There is safety in the status-quo. These people are living their own fictional script, and who are you to try to mess with the set up they have. Successful people can't prove anything to them, because they refuse to look at their o
  13. Like, NC, I have a garden. I play scarecrow, myself, and I have a shotgun as well. We do a lot of canning for the winter months, and don't give away much of our produce. I have some family in Buchanan, who has chickens, turkeys, pigs, and cows. I own my home, but there are still taxes to pay. Through the barter system we trade among the family, all we can. some of them being so far away causes gas to have to be purchased. I sell firewood sometimes, and do odd and end work, which may play out. All I can say is that we will survive for as long as possible, and then we will die.
  14. Very good reply, cherokeewoman! Of course, I expected no less from you. You know how to live, where some people have to be told what to do.
  15. http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/.../lifestyles_of_the_rich_and_not031307.p... At least some folks are thriving in this economy. Nordstrom has a waiting list for a Chanel sequined tweed coat with a $9,010 price. Neiman Marcus has sold out in almost every size of Christian Louboutin “Bianca” platform pumps, at $775 a pair. Mercedes-Benz said it sold more cars last month in the United States than it had in any July in five years. Even with the economy in a funk and many Americans pulling back on spending, the rich are again buying designer clothing, luxury cars and about anything tha
  16. I don't like licensed people doing anything for me. If I can't cut a tree down by myself I get some of my friends to help me. A license doesn't guarantee me anything except more money out of my pocket. I am a risk taker, and I've made mistakes, but I want par for anyone's license to charge me more money. If I want to buy insurance I buy some for myself. My home owners policy will pay me if I accidentally drop a tree on my house.
  17. Not everyone is trying to do you harm, like a control freak might be. Some people are just tying to protect their own lives, their own fears, and their own ways of being. But, whether people intend to hurt you, or not, it's all the same to you. You need to make your own decisions, unless you like for other people to run your life. I'm trying to be on your side as I write this. Results is what I am interested in. If A car runs over my foot, it doesn't necessarily mean the driver wanted to hurt me. It's most likely an "accident." They may not have intended to do it, but my foot is crushed j
  18. We don't have to make anyone happy, but ourselves. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is our gift to ourselves, when we become adults. Once we become adults we make good and bad decisions in our lives. But, we can't make our own decisions if we have control freaks wanting to make them for us. A friend of mine was over joyed when her divorce became final. She had worked so hard for such a long time, trying to do what was best in holding her marriage together, but she decided it was time to quit trying to make others happy while she seemed to be very close to the bottom of the
  19. Never allow a corporation, or any business you work for, to have ANYTHING to do with your healthcare insurance. Especially in Georgia (a right to work state). You can be fired for good reason, bad reason, or no reason at all. Who would want their healthcare insurance put into a situation like that?
  20. On the original posters mention of spending. I don't like it. I voted for Obama, and now he is a Republican, or a Democrat In Name Only. He needs to stay away from my Social Security check. Me and My baby boomer friends are coming down on him. I hope somebody runs on an independent ticket in 2012. I just want vote for a Republican, and now Obama can kiss my arse.
  21. I agree! I sure don't care for the Catholic church wanting to do it.
