For my 16th birthday (that's been a minute) I told each friend to bring an item in a brown paper bag and not to tell anyone they were bringing it because it was for a suprise for the party and only me and them knew. Course I told this same thing to each person invited. Some of the items they were asked to bring were: 1. One person brought cooked spagetti 2. One person brought shaving creme 3. Me too. Don't remember how old my kids where, but I just tried to be as frank and honest as possible about all of it.

As someone who has worked in a grocery store for 22 years, I will throw out this word of caution. IT'S RETAIL!!!! You WILL work nights, you WILL work weekends, you WILL work holidays. Fourth of July when all your friends are cooking out or going to the lake, guess where you'll be! Christmas Eve as your family gathers together, GUESS WHERE YOU WILL BE!!! Grocery busy is good, honest, and hard work. You can make a good, well paying living doing it, I've been doing it for 22 yrs. But DO NOT go into it thinking you'll get weekends and holidays off. It just doesn't work that way.
