  2. Cedartown, we went there for dinner before Mickey Rooney and his wife appeared at the Cedartown Arena a while back and it was excellent. With the naem we expected Greek food, but except for afew dishes, it was mostly Italian.
  3. I thought you weren't allowed to mention AARP in this part of the country --- only the conservative version. Anyone out there going to the huge AARP event in Orlando Sept. 28 - Oct. 1st? We went to the one in 2000 and it was great --- going this year too.
  4. I was named after Melvyn Douglas --- most other folks spell Melvyn with an "i".
  5. ]We're the proud grandparents of a new grandson named Reed and a new granddaughter named Summer both born today to our son and daughter-in-law in New York. Our first grandchild Sabrina, almost 20 months, living down here with our daughter and son-in-law, and whom we watch regularly, now has two new cousins. Sabrina was not named after the teenage witch, but I wondered where they got the names for the twins, so I googled and saw that Summer and Reed were characters on the teen drama, the O.C. --- I'm sure it's only a coincidence. Interedtingly, it appers that at one point in th

  7. We have had DISH for 7 years and have had no problems and excellent customer service. Last year we upgraded to the HD DVR, which services one HD set and one non-HD set, allows you to record 2 shows at the smae time and watch on either set. Works great. If U-verse ever makes it to our home, that might be the only one I would change to. P.S. If you want a discount coupon for DISH, PM me.

  9. ARTICLE Argh! Atlanta is the crankiest city in the nation. That’s according to a new poll conducted by Sperling’s BestPlaces and was based on a measurement of 11 irritation factors, including pest control, traffic congestion, and heat index, among others. (We just walked across the street for lunch and can attest that the heat index is indeed pretty irritating today.) The survey was commissioned by Edge Shave Zone, who has signed on comedian John Caparulo to help get the word out. Because of his, ahem, sharp wit. Heh. Here’s the whole list. Atlanta, GA Houston, TX

  13. It was out when we got home yesterday afternoon and was in the 90s --- now in the high 80s. Thank goodness we have a 2nd system in the basement that is working. Since we still have a home warranty, we have to wait on them --- won't be here until monday.
  14. Greystone Power's latest Newsletter featured a Dual Fuel Heat Pump where you keep the same Heating System. Uses less energy. Rebates were offered too. If you don't use Greystone, PM me for the article.
  15. COMPUTERWORLD ARTICLE Microsoft is warning that attackers are exploiting a critical unpatched Windows vulnerability using infected USB flash drives. <snip> In a security advisory, Microsoft confirmed what other researchers had been saying for almost a month: Hackers have been exploiting a bug in Windows "shortcut" files, the placeholders typically dropped on the desktop or into the Start menu to represent links to actual files or programs. <snip> According to Microsoft, Windows fails to correctly parse shortcut files, identified by the ".lnk" extension. <snip> Microsof
  16. Pretty heavy in South Paulding now --- been on and off all day.
  17. They did my neighbor's roof on a windy day. They wound up tossing the singles off of the roof and much of it landed on my lawn. I don't know why they had the dumpster there if they weren't going to carry them down and put the shingles in it. Other shingles were blown ito my other neighbor's yard and across the street. I had to talk to the foreman twice --- he was the only one that spoke English --- the first time they cleaned up a bit, but it kept coming. The 2nd time, they actually cleaned it up. Must have thought I was going to call the shriff.
  18. Heavens, On the same day I received 3 distinct mail pieces from Seth Harp, who is running for Insurance Commissioner. Couldn't he save a lot by putting it in one mailing?
  19. Haven't watched for years, but always wondered why the strange couple in the swap would ever volunteer for a show like this? They must get some good compensation.
  20. From today's AJC: Illness kills 8 dogs at Paulding shelter An illness outbreak has led to the deaths of eight dogs and has delayed the Paulding County Animal Shelter’s reopening, a county official said. Instead of opening today, the shelter is now under a 14-day quarantine, Capt. LeAnn Le-holm with the Paulding County Marshal’s Office told the AJC. Hopefully, the shelter will be able to open on July 21, she said. The shelter closed at the end of May for renovations, officials said. Recently, the shelter had started taking in stray animals, Leholm said. One of those
  21. I was on the fence --- we were outdoors doing work on the deck. Was nice to see, but hoping they were doing it safely --- too many accidents with fireworks. Was wondering where it was coming from --- Ingles Parking Lot? empty field?
