I see the stand your ground poster boy has been arrested.

I'd say the shooter had a really good attorney OR the jury believed him. Like maybe he did feel threatened. Apparently there was a lot more to the story than the guy was "talking" to the girlfriend. Of course, a really good boyfriend would have gotten her out of there. She might not have wanted to go, though. At that point, it wasn't up to him to defend her but he was within his rights to defend himself. -
Wish I'd been able to give you more than one positive on this. And same thing applies to "affordable". What one person finds affordable, another may not.

So it wasn't just me and Mr. Dis who thought that? I thought I understand what she said but I wasn't sure. And I read it about four times. It didn't get clearer. The person who explained it explained it very well. And no offense to the poster. I know sometimes I post things that don't make sense to anyone else. We all do.

As our instructor in the safety course explained, you change one part of the incident, even a tiny portion, and it changes everything. http://www.times-herald.com/local/20131110-Stand-Your-Ground-Suit The man who killed him, Adam Lee Edmondson, claimed self-defense and invoked the stand your ground law — even though Edmondson had been the initial aggressor in two altercations with Johnson, one occurring the night before his death. Edmondson was admittedly drunk, and after spending time at the tavern, went to his truck to retrieve his pistol. He said during his trial that “I got my -
Hey, I didn't understand what she said either and I read it several times. I thought I understood but wasn't sure.

sorry. I'm with Mr. Dis on this. It doesn't make sense.

There. Fixed it for you.

He has found he absolutely loves retail. He had applied at CW Matthews about 18 months and never got a call back. That's when he got the job he has now--well, before the promotion anyway. He doesn't have to worry about the weather knocking him out of work or a fluctuating paycheck. It always seemed to be feast or famine. He'd work 60 or 70 hours a week or the minimum (either 3 or 4 hours) per day. It was never 40 steady hours a week. He would have LOVED to have worked at Matthews. I'll tell him about it but I seriously doubt he would apply now simply because he was found what he

I have no respect for judges or any part of the judicial system in Paulding, so to be polite, I don't care what they say or do. Here are the questions on the Florida concealed carry permit application that would apply to this: Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If your civil rights have been restored, you can get a CCP. Have you had adjudication of guilt withheld or imposition of sentence suspended on a felony charge or a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence? If 3 years has lapsed since probation or other conditions set by the court, you are eligible. Have you been -

"situations" don't disqualify you from having a firearm legally. Convictions do. Besides, anyone who wants a firearm will get one. It's your right. -
You're right. Wages won't rise as long as we have high unemployment because employers think, sometimes mistakenly, that everyone is desperate for a job and will take what is offered. Interesting that we're having this conversation because I've been involved in a conversation with my son in law and a friend of mine about this very same subject.

I agree with you. But the law is the law and it's written to where you really are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law (not a court of public opinion). -
A lot of employers feel everyone is so desperate to have a job that they can pay crappy wages. I'm going today to talk to a prospective employer about pay. The preliminary discussion was this: "with base salary and bonuses, you will make what you quoted as pay". Well, wait a minute. What I quoted as what I wanted for pay was BASE pay, not to include bonuses or commissions and it's almost 50% less than I was making in Georgia AND it's a $1 an hour less than I can go two miles from the house and make for the same job. But these people seem to think I'm desperate for a job (which I'm not

Not going to trust my math this late at night but that comes to something like help for 500,000 employees. Is that correct??? Someone check my math.

Maybe the former assistant manager at the store where my daughter and son in law work can go to Walmart next. Well, once she gets out of jail.
-
My daughter said the store where they work hired someone who couldn't make change. The person was basically a warm body and that qualified them to work there. They lasted a couple of days but that was it.

If you're going to make a real, honest-to-gosh effort to start a business, you need a little bit of money. Business licenses, business cards, transportation. So, yes, I agree you can start a business but you have to be able to finance it, too. And some businesses take a lot more money to finance (you know that yourself). And to be fair, some people who work in those jobs DO have skills just skills in fields where there are no jobs. My son in law is a great example. He has over a decade of experience in paving and smaller heavy equipment operation. Do you know how many paving jobs t

I'm quoting the website. I guess they quoted a homework assignment. By the way, here's a statement he made to Congress back in March. Impressive. Assistant Professor of Economics. I'll hold his opinion in higher esteem than I will almost anyone else who can't tell me what minimum wage is. http://www.help.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/Dube.pdf

The study, “Hidden Cost of Wal-Mart Jobs,” found that the average Wal-Mart worker required $730 in taxpayer-funded healthcare and $1,222 in other forms of assistance, such as food stamps and subsidized housing, to get by. http://www.ilsr.org/new-study-finds-walmarts-miserly-wages-cost-taxpayers/ It apparently adds up to about $900,000 for each Walmart store that is open.

We touched briefly on the Zimmerman situation in our firearms course this past Saturday. And last time I looked, you are presumed innocent until PROVEN guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. As our instructor said, when you shoot someone you must be able to justify your actions. It would seem in the Zimmerman/Martin case it couldn't be proven that the incident didn't happen the way he said it did. That creates a reasonable doubt. Now, had the prosecution been able to PROVE beyond a reasonable doubt that Zimmerman was on top of Martin, the trial would have gone a different direction. Like -
My son in law is a retail store assistant manager for a large chain (not Walmart). He makes $8.00 an hour. My daughter and son in law are considering moving to Florida. He would have to take about a 12 cent an hour pay cut to move and start at the bottom again. She, OTOH, would get a raise. It's really shameful for retailers to pay their employees so little.

All true but it doesn't stop the self appointed judges and jury from Pcom from rendering their verdict even if all they hear is a news report that may or may not be accurate. I don't think "stand your ground" and "self defense" are the same thing. I could be wrong about that so I'll get out my firearms brochure and read on it more. -
We have three houses for sale in the neighborhood. Come on down!! I'm sitting here in shorts and a t-shirt right now. Got the windows open and the fans on. Slept with a ceiling fan on last night.

FYI, Nitro, I got my question answered already so I won't send you a PM after all. I knew you would know the answer though because of your familiarity with firearms.
