  1. Businesses just pass those taxes along to their customers and clients. Take the medical device tax, part of the ACA. That isn't being paid by the company who purchases the device. It is paid by the end user in the form of increased prices for things like MRIs, CT scans, heart values, etc. You may just look at the bill and think "the charge increased". It increased to pay the tax.
  2. My friend works for Hallmark, too. She has seen lots of her co-workers lose their jobs, too. And has seen her own hours cut. When a paper mill closes it, a small town that depends on the jobs provided by the mill can be devastated. We need to use MORE paper instead of less. Absolutely!!! They have some really nice ones for $1 and some 2 for $1. It's not the amount of money you spend. It's the thought.
  3. My view isn't loyalty to a past employer. It's a loyalty to an industry. An industry that employs a lot of people and pays VERY well. I hate to see anything made of paper being cast aside for electronic versions. It's taking jobs away from people who need them and towns that depend on the employer. I do like gift cards but send them in addition to a card. I have printed out some myself through the years. When you factor in the ink and the card stock, I have to wonder if I'm saving anything though. If stamps would just go down in price, it would make sending a card a lot less "stic
  4. Since I have a friend who is a rep for a card manufacturer and my husband and I made a great living for 20 years in the paper industry, I'll continue to support these jobs. If I give a gift card, too, that's great. I still have all the cards my now-deceased sister gave me through the years. They are all I have left of her.
  5. I'd vote for Jindal in a heartbeat. He's the man! As a side note, the Pres_ent came down to the Mobile area over the summer and was bragging about how many jobs had been created at the Airbus assembly plant. Only problem is the plant hasn't opened yet. Assembly will open in 2015. The company is hiring but only for a few jobs at this point. The group hired includes six engineers, three station managers and one quality manager. They will actually live in Germany for nine months before reporting to work in Mobile. Thus far, this is all the hiring the company has done for that plant.
  6. That's what my husband and I say about our daughter. BTW, I dropped my completed application in the mail this afternoon.
  7. It was 7 pages for me but we aren't covering kids. I think it might be 9 pages for you, since you have two of the four most adorable kids in the world (my grandkids are the other two). If you're not covering the kids, probably 7 pages for you, too.
  8. I printed out the application. Plan to mail it today. I simply gave up on trying to do it through the website.
  9. If it's illegal, it's illegal. If a person is found to be DUI for alcohol, they can be stripped of their driving PRIVILEGE for up to at least a year. Driving is not a right. It's a privilege. Contrary to what most 16 year olds think.
  10. If the man didn't sign anything showing he was accepting responsibility for the charges, I'd think the hospital would have a very difficult time collecting from him. So, if they are trying to collect payment from him it sounds like he agreed to everything, including payment of the bill. Pretty sure hospitals wouldn't do a procedure without informed consent. To do so could cost them accreditation. And likely WOULD cost them that.
  11. How does one force someone to prep for a colonoscopy?
  12. It's at the tunnel entrance, isn't it?
  13. Yes, it does. We do love our naval aviators around here, too.
  14. Why does this not ring true? Yes, I know, a lot of cops are going over the line to make a bust but WHO gave consent for the colonoscopy? Did HE? Someone has to. If it wasn't him, then who did? And if he didn't, I see a lawsuit against the hospital in the future as well. But most likely, the hospital and the county or city will settle out of court for an "undisclosed amount of money", the cops will go to some kind of sensitivity training session and in the future make damn well sure they find something.
  15. they should send the bill to the police department. In fact, if I were him, I'd forward the bill to the PD and tell the hospital they would have to collect from the PD because I wasn't paying them one dime.
  16. I have friends and family in law enforcement and I know they had very difficult jobs to do. However, more and more I see overeager police officers who are going above and beyond, and not in a good way, to make an arrest or to prove someone had drugs when they didn't. I wish my daughter would file charges against the state trooper who pulled her over recently, or at least tell the news media about it. While, thankfully, she didn't have to endure what this man did, she was held without cause, standing on the side of Bankhead Highway. I honestly believe her rights were violated. She wants
  17. Not sure this has been updated in the Atlanta area. The training pilot went home from the hospital today and the student is expected to be released in the next few days.
  18. I saw a FB page for them. If you want, I'll try to find which one. It wasn't through a search for a person on there, so I'll have to find it again.
  19. Glad to hear this. We only have Office Depot here. I hope they go the Max way.
  20. But let someone who really is abusing or neglecting their child enter the system, DFCS won't follow up or if they do, they will call to make an appointment. No surprise visits for truly abusive parents. It's like calling the restaurant the day before to let them know the inspector is coming. Surprise! A 100 in a restaurant that previously couldn't pass an inspection if they paid off the inspector if they showed up unannounced.
  21. I've known people like that, too. Can't get DFCS off their backs and would never abuse or neglect a child. I think heads need to roll in DFCS, from the division chief down to the caseworker(s) who turned their backs on this child. And fire these sorry folks, don't give them promotions.
  22. I've dealt with several real estate agents here in Florida. I didn't recognize a one of them from their pictures. One does have a photo now that looks more like her than the previous one. In fact, we had never met when we went to her office for her to show us houses. I had several flyers that had her picture on them. We had exchanged e-mails for about six weeks before we finally came down to look at houses. She had to introduce herself because I had no clue it was the person in the picture. Yeah, I've seen a few people like that, too. Definitely make a train take a dirt road.
  23. The stadium has ZERO fault. Yes, we all know that an area goes to hell in a handbasket when Sunday alcohol sells starts. Go ahead and blame the conservatives for the meth problem while you're at it.
  24. Buying or selling a house is a very emotional thing for most people. We had to get over that when we were buying. We found a house that would be suitable, though not perfect, and fell in love with it after we moved in. I'd only been it in once before we closed on it. My husband had been in it exactly twice. It wasn't the one I wanted to make an offer on that day. In fact, we almost didn't even see it because I couldn't get my husband to come up here. Finally, the day before we were going back home I told him we were coming to see the house. We saw five that day, this one being the last
