  1. Quite honestly, my daughter doesn't want to take care of other children. She wants to spend as much one-on-one time with her two as she possibly can. Her children are the most precious things to her. She does not want to miss a minute with them. She waited 7 years for Starr and then almost lost her twice. She almost lost Dru once and in fact, thought she had. They live within walking distance to Sweetwater CAMP and have checked there for networking. Not sure if they found anything of help or not. My daughter is making and attempting to sell crafts. She's quite creative.
  2. I think the primary reason they think Georgia is a good state in which to be located is this is where they are from. Some of them are fourth, fifth and even sixth generation residents of Georgia. This is where they were raised, where they have family and where they provide jobs and services or products for others. Why go anywhere else? Might try reading this: http://www.smbiz.com/sbrl001.html#ci It explains corporate tax rates. BTW, I love paying taxes!! It means I have had PROFIT in my business. After all, that's what I'm in business for. Not to lose money. If you
  3. good Lord! The man is NOT elderly. He's 61. And I hope and pray he is found safe and sound. Soon.
  4. I've even given him job leads to no avail. It's just a really tough time to be job hunting. He had a job that he liked pretty well but had a chance to take a better one. He left the old one to take the better job. After three weeks that "better job" closed the doors and he was left unemployed, for almost a year. He eventually went back to the other job but it wasn't fast. He left that to drive the taxi. In the beginning that WAS a better job but then summer hit and for some reason, ridership dropped dramatically and NONE of the drivers were making a living. It never picked up after fal
  5. I haven't done this in quite a while, but I used to make my own dryer sheets. I would take liquid fabric softener and pour a little bit on a wash cloth and toss it in the dryer with the clothes. Now my washer has an automatic dispenser and as long as I have liquid fabric softener, I don't need to make the dryer sheet. And used dryer sheets (like Bounce) are great for cleaning up the dust at the baseboard on laminate floor.
  6. I used Fork in the Road about a year ago. They were in Mableton/Austell at the time but have since moved to Powder Springs. PM me for their number.
  7. Most of the ones I know are S corporations, LLCs or file Schedule C and they all pay a lot of taxes. I know one in particular makes over $120,000 a year. PROFIT. I wish I had their business! I'd gladly pay the taxes. BTW, because they are an LLP (similar to an LLC), each partner pays taxes on that profit.
  8. You know someone who is HIRING? I mean other than the 400 places my SIL has already applied to. His background is construction. Actually, construction "adjacent" (asphalt paving). BTW, TC, my SIL walks an hour to the library to check the want ads and submit applications, as well as hitting all the places he can THREE TIMES a week. He's out there trying to get a job. My daughter has put in a few applications as well. The best they have gotten since he's been out of a job is "maybe". That maybe turned into a no when the company set a hiring and pay freeze. It wasn't much of a job, but i
  9. Actually, I have found that small business is alive and well in spite of the government.
  10. What about all those employees and shareholders who pay taxes on their earnings and wages? Does it magically come out of the sky or are those taxes paid FROM those wages and earnings which come from those Fortune 500 companies?
  11. Never ceases to amaze me at how people think that those who receive government assistance are ALL lazy and unproductive people. Or how people think that if you receive government assistance you should have NO extras like lottery tickets, nights out or anything else. C'mon, realize that these people who receive assistance are people just like you. Yes, there are those who cheat the system but that has been done for decades. Case in point: I know of a family who is receiving Medicaid for the kids in spite of the fact that while the family "income" (from wages) is minimal, and at times
  12. We were told Allied stopping doing business in west Georgia because of the storms of last year (and the flood of 2009, etc).
  13. We had Allied until they stopped doing business in west Georgia. Now we're back with Nationwide. We were with Nationwide for years and years and years until Allied, a division of Nationwide, gave us a better rate. That was in 2009. Now they have dropped everything in this part of Georgia. Interestingly enough, our rate with Nationwide is only slightly more than it was when it was Allied and the car insurance is LESS.
  14. As was pointed out in the article, when "income" is used to determine qualification for assistance, there will be people who have plenty of money coming in through investments or like this person, lottery winnings, but who have little or no "income". I know of several people in the past who received Medicaid or other types of assistance and yet lived in $300,000+ houses and drove brand new cars.
  15. from the number of people who have posted on here that they don't like Aldi for various reasons, why would you think there would be a maddening crowd? Word of warning: DD and I will be there with the little ones around 11:30.
  16. Daughter and I are already making plans for Thursday. We're so excited!! Girl-time with me, her and the little ones. And the little ones get to see something other than downtown Austell.
  17. When did I become a grown up? June 21, 1973 the day my dad passed away at age 63 due to liver cancer. My oldest sister had it right. I aged 10 years that day.
  18. Yes, we always had "Sunday dinner". Usually had other family members come over, too. Not unusual for my sister and her family, from out in Winston, come over TO SMYRNA for Sunday dinner. Even as recently as 2003/2004 we had Sunday dinner at my mom's house. My brother would come down from Blairsville, my sister would come and me and my hubby. When my nephew who lives in Charlotte was in town, he and his wife could come, too. As for me, Sunday is generally a snack supper or something like homemade veggie soup or chili.
  19. As recently as about 15-18 years ago, Powder Springs had that law, too.
  20. LPPT, have you tried Sudafed? The real stuff not the stuff you now get OTC? The one that makes you feel like you're registering as a drug offender? This is the ONLY stuff that works for me. Benadryl just puts me to sleep and Claritin was like taking a drink of water.
  21. Why? I often don't plan what I'm cooking for dinner a day ahead of time, why should I PLAN my alcohol consumption? Sometimes I want a beer. Sometimes I want a margarita. Sometimes I want Kahlua. Sometimes I want rum. Sometimes I want them on Tuesday (which is funny if you know what I do on Tuesday) and sometimes I want them on Sunday. Why should I decide on Saturday that I want rum on Sunday? The point is, if something is legal six days a week it should be legal seven days a week. It's no more or less moral or healthy depending on the day of the week. I'm not restricted to readi
  22. for real!! I remember blue laws. Oldest brother went to the store on Sunday because they needed a few things including toilet tissue. He was not allowed to purchase the TP because it was Sunday. WTH??? IMO, if you can buy it Monday through Saturday, you should be able to buy it on Sunday AND holidays. Retailers don't have to be open or even to sell it if THEY don't want to but it should not be legal six days a week and illegal one day a week. That's
  23. Since you don't register for a particular party in Georgia, thankfully, it's quite interesting when I vote. I may vote for a Libertarian, a Republican, a Democrat or an independent. I have ALWAYS voted for the candidate regardless of party. I guess I'm more of a Libertarian with Republican leanings (at least that is what I posted on my FB profile page). One person who knows me says I'm a Republican but I keep trying to tell that person that I'm more of a Libertarian than Republican.
  24. I got something in the mail with a $5 off coupon. You bet your sweet pippy, I'm gonna use that!
