AMA Wants to force YOU to be there new guinea pig
Mama Carol replied to pcolafl2002's topic in RECENT TOPICS
The thing is people go to the doctor all the time and ASK for medication that has not been shown to be effective and in many, many cases can be downright dangerous. Why? It's advertised. Or a friend takes it. A celebrity endorses it. Why would the AMA or any other entity need to FORCE anyone to take a medication when there are so many willing guinea pigs, I mean victims. -
Non-Profit Means You Charge Nothing For Products Or Services
Mama Carol replied to Eddie Bennett's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Wrong. Non profit does not mean you don't charge anything for your product or your services. -
The way I understand it, with FB even if you block them from your newsfeed they still pop up with game challenges, likes, etc. Freaked me out when I saw "send a challenge to ..." one day and thought that person was no longer a FB friend. I hadn't seen anything from them in a long, long time and thought I had unfriended them. Turned out I had just turned off the "show in newsfeed".

All the signs in the world won't help stupid drivers drive better. I saw someone sail through the Dallas Highway/Macland Road intersection today. They were on Dallas Highway heading toward 92 and NEVER slowed down. They had a red light, not yellow but RED. FORTUNATELY, the turn lights for Macland had just gone off and the green light had not yet come on. And the person turning left onto Dallas Highway going toward 92 did not turn left on a red light or else they would have been creamed. I hope both drivers bought lottery tickets today because they were the two luckiest people on the

Yes, you and the bookkeeper were talking about that, weren't you? He was merely asking if I was supposed to be there at 10. I think he was wanting me out of the house. I guess we both could use a little time away from each other now and then.
-
Not to mention that a lot of the time ALL the information available to the bookkeeper is an e-mail address. Obviously it makes it difficult to contact someone whose real name you don't know and who you've never met (that you know of). BTW, off topic note to Pubby, thanks for the encouraging words today. I feel much better about things.

I want to cry when I see "challenge Johnny Jacobs" come up when I'm playing Words with Friends. I miss him. Note to Chickadee, I don't mean to say that you should delete your dad's FB account. Even if he's no longer with us, I still consider him a friend. He and I hardly ever interacted on FB but it was comforting to me to know he was there....and on here. And Heather, hugs to you.

Yes and no. I've seen college graduates who couldn't spell cat without two Ts. And who said "seen" instead of "saw". -
AMA Wants to force YOU to be there new guinea pig
Mama Carol replied to pcolafl2002's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Millions of people are being willing guinea pigs every day. Not only that, they PAY for the privilege. Until laws are in place to STOP what drug companies are doing in their marketing efforts, nothing will change. We, as a collective body, will GLADLY swallow pills and undergo tests and procedures when there is NOTHING wrong with us. Taking a pill has become the answer to everything. It isn't, folks. And the AMA is sponsored in large part by the drug companies. As is Congress. -
Many warm thoughts and prayers for Terrie and the family right now. Reading her obituary, I think I may have known her and didn't realize she was Lady Raider's mom.

Shooting at World Changers Church at least one dead
Mama Carol replied to mom2dachs's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I got it, too, Subby. In fact, Stradial and I have shared some PMs about hair curling events in churches, some of which are in the area we all hail from. Heck, they might be some of the same churches. I think my favorite event was the pastor's wife sharing a wine cooler with the allegedly gay leader of the children's ministry. The officers of the church were very anti-alcohol. And very anti-gay. The thing they seemed to like less than either of those was the fact that hubby and I took our mixed race grandchildren to church with us. Proudly, took them to church with us, I migh -
How to handle a family member who is out of line
Mama Carol replied to Mama Carol's topic in RECENT TOPICS
The outside of the house looks fine. It's the inside that has rotted and is falling apart. Outside is brick and has vinyl overhangs and soffits so all that is OK. Roof was replaced about 2 years before my mom passed away, so that's fine, too. Grass is kept cut, too. Nope, nobody has signed off that the estate has been settled. My aunts estate was recently settled and I don't recall signing anything for that either. My sister has lived in her house since the mid-1970s. She has a good job. We're all really stumped about the attachment to the house. I'm pretty sure that she prom -
How to handle a family member who is out of line
Mama Carol replied to Mama Carol's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I simply replied to her that I have had nothing to do with the situation and that she or my brother should talk to my sister if they have a problem with what is going on. I told her that I try to not let things bother me if there is nothing I can do to change them and this is something I refuse to let bother me. Hopefully she will get the idea that it's because I can't do anything to change it. She had also mentioned, both in the latest e-mail and on the phone the other day, an incident following my mom's funeral. Since I was still recovering from the flu at the time I have no memory of -

I'd think a time of NO police activity on Bankhead would be newsworthy. I hate trying to watch the news now. It's all "more at 6" and then at 6 there is nothing about it. -

How to handle a family member who is out of line
Mama Carol replied to Mama Carol's topic in RECENT TOPICS
If what my SIL says is true, my brother refuses to discuss it with her and just says it's up to our sister, which it is. OK, we KNOW for a fact that the heirs thought that as long as my daughter and son in law lived in the house that was the reason my sister didn't sell. They "politely" asked ME to ask her to move. She did. They were thrilled to move back to Austell. But they have lived there for over 4 years and the house still is sitting there unsold. My oldest nephew and his wife lived there for a time while they were in the process of remodeling a house they own. Here's wh -
How to handle a family member who is out of line

Family meeting is not just geographically possible. E-mail meeting might be or conference call but certainly not in person. My brother is 79 and sister in law is 78. They live outside of Orlando. They no longer can travel up here. She was unable to go to her own sister's funeral a few months ago. SIL has a lot of health problems and just simply can't travel now. Brother won't go off and leave her while he comes up here (and I can't fault him for that). I don't "do" conflict within the family. I refuse to play that game. I'd rather have good relations with everyone than argu -
How to handle a family member who is out of line
Mama Carol replied to Mama Carol's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Nope. My SIL joined the family in 2004, prior to my mom's death. In fact, she was there with us through everything from 2003 until my mom passed away in March 2005. In order to file a lawsuit, it would cost as much as any of us would get out of the property. HAD my sister sold it in 2005 or even in 2006, it might have brought $100,000. Now we would be lucky to get half of that. And likely not even half. So, no, it's not worth enough to cause a problem within the family. Nobody wanted to spend money to fix it up because quite honestly even in 2005 it wouldn't have been worth it. W -
I thought he was one of those highly paid, badly needed administrators who kept the county up to date with their reporting to different agencies.

The same reason they tend to make house fires in DeKalb County "breaking news". It's a slow news day. -
The only downside I have seen for Florida is higher property taxes and slightly higher sales tax. Other than that, I'm with you! Did Florida change something in the last few years? It used to be like here in Georgia where if you bought a fresh chicken you paid no sales tax but to buy a rotisserie chicken from the deli you did. We paid the same for gas there two weeks ago what we're paying here now, at LEAST 3 cents less per gallon!

Some stores just show it computed differently. They all have to collect it properly. Some stores show 7% tax, which is everything that is fully taxable and then show 3% which is taxable food. Some just show tax and don't list percentages. I believe Kroger shows just the total tax. Walmart shows 7% tax and 3% tax. You aren't paying 10%, though. You're paying 3% on the food and 7% on everything else. Just the way the registers are set up to show it. And good luck figuring that out!! Been there, done that. It can get VERY confusing. I even had to ask a CPA friend of mine for h

Yeah, I'm really trying to figure out what to say to her that she will remember and "get, knowing about the Alzheimer's. No, my family doesn't look at me as a leader. They do look at me as the one they whine and complain to. I have asked my sister and she just says "when the real estate market gets better". It was pretty darn good in 2005 when our mom passed away! I couldn't agree with you more. My hands are tied. I have less than no say about it. See why I want to move? This issue comes up every year or so. -

For the answer to that, we would have to ask her. Apparently he (my brother) refuses to discuss it as well.
