  1. I vote for after Christmas. Generally, we get the tree up two Sundays before Christmas but it really depends. I haven't been overrun with Christmas spirit since 2001 so even if the tree didn't get put up at all, I'd be fine with it.
  2. My plans on Black Friday are to go some place really, really scary. Yep, the office.
  3. Since the name of the business is not mentioned, just "Hiram Bird Supply store" it does not mention the business name and is therefore allowed. If it said "BirdWatcher's Supply store closing" in the title, it would have to be edited to remove the complete business name. More than likely it would have been edited to say "Hiram bird supply store closing". You know, I have seen this same statement made about once a month. ALWAYS the "real" business name has not been mentioned but someone gets their panties in a wad about it being there.
  4. Were the posts in the Cafe reported and the mods asked to move them? Mods can't be everywhere apparently and neither can Pubby, so they rely on reports from members about mispostings. I myself saw one a few months ago that I thought was in the wrong place. I didn't report it because I figured it would get moved. Two days later, I reported it and it got moved within an hour. Maybe one of the mods saw the post was in the wrong place, too. I have no way of knowing. But I do know that it got moved quickly after I reported it and had languished in the wrong place for two days prior to t
  5. They do, or at least did, have free songs each week. And podcasts available for free. LOVED some of the podcasts.
  6. Advertisers and CMs have protection from what you talk about people picking apart a business.
  7. Maybe you could convince her to buy a commerce membership or become an advertiser. I know she used to be on here and was a very active participant. I think I can speak for almost everyone when I say we would love to have her back on here. So, Oh No, did you go today? Seems I recall it had been rescheduled to this weekend.
  8. If they felt threatened by it, absolutely.
  9. I try to look at the best in people. Guess it's a lot like what I read when my daughter was just a little girl. You get what you expect from kids. Expect the best and that's what you'll get. I do the same with people. I look for the best in them and until I see differently, that's generally what I get from them. I haven't felt I needed to carry a firearm on my person since we owned 25 acres in southern Douglas County. Those 25 acres had more snakes than I cared for. Always carried a firearm on me and my husband always carried one on him out there. Here at home, no need. I don
  10. I REALLY hate to say this but I view the disabled person car tags as a warning label these days. And before anyone jumps on me for that comment, we have three vehicles in this household that have them! You can ask anyone on here who knows me IRL and they will verify that the car I drive has one. I knew someone who had a family member plow into someone, killing both themselves and the other person. The family member was not on medications but was suffering from dementia. As bad as it was to lose their family member, knowing that the person drove without even knowing where they we
  11. Yes, we own firearms and have carry permits. My post didn't say otherwise. I was asking why anyone would feel the need to have one that is THAT accessible. Are they expecting trouble? I'm not. BTW, when I was about 8 or 10 I was able to hit the bullseye in a target with a .22 rifle, every time. Always been a great shot. My dad taught me to handle firearms from an early age. I own N-O-T-H-I-N-G at all that I would be willing to risk my life for. Family is another matter. But if someone kicks in the door, they are more than welcome to anything they want as long as they leave me
  12. Here's my take: I would have no reason to believe that the police busted down my door to serve a warrant of any kind unless they were really, really wrong and had not just the wrong house but the wrong street, which really could happen here since we have "sister" streets. Since I would have no reason to believe that someone else would break down my door, I would cooperate with them and give them the benefit of the doubt. If I confront someone who is armed, police or not, there stands almost a 100% chance that someone, possibly me, will get shot and possibly killed. Cooperation with the per
  13. My husband used to own a truck that was quite similar to what the INS uses. He could drive through and clear out a subdivision. I see people sitting on their porches a lot, especially in certain areas. Wonder if it's the same reason? With us, if we look out the window and have the glass busted out and we get snatched out, whoever does it will be rather tall. Our lowest windows are a good 5 feet off the ground and the upper story is closer to 25. Either way, we still gotta get the gun, so unless they shoot one of us for having the TV remote in our hand, I don't worry too much ab
  14. I really have to ask myself, how it is that these people who tend to get killed by the police in situations such as these have firearms THAT close to them and would have doubt that it really and truly was the police. Can they not look out the window or look at the shirts these guys have on? Do they suspect that if someone breaks down the door like that that they AREN'T the police? Of course, if they are like me and my husband and don't do drugs, don't hang around with people who do and live in a quiet, stable neighborhood, we wouldn't think anyone who breaks down the door, yelling "police"
  15. WHY are these people armed in their own homes? Are they expecting trouble?
  16. My husband is such a light sleeper, they could turn the corner at the top of our street and wake him. No need to wait for them to kick down the door. And me, I'd still be asleep when they left. As long as they don't go through the bedroom. Besides, we don't do that kind of thing. Too dang old to do time.
  17. I just don't understand how you CAN'T know who it is when they shout "police". Even if they don't knock, wouldn't the hoards of police cars out front give it away? I was pretty sure that there were cops in front of my house a few years ago well before they went running through my backyard. In answer to the question from the OP, one never knows what they would do until they are faced with it. That said, I have absolutely, positively no reason to believe that anyone who breaks down my door is NOT the police. Besides, the gun isn't near the door. They would have to wait for me to eve
  18. I took a trip to New Orleans with my mom, my sister, my brother in law and my niece. My mom, my sister and my brother in law all smoked. My brother in law smoked cigars part of the time. We came back through Mobile and went on the USS Alabama and the USS Drum. I have never been so sick in my entire life as I was when I walked off that sub. I'd had two days of cigarette and cigar smoke in the car plus my brother who lived in NO also smoked so I was around FOUR smokers in the house for four days in addition to the two days in the car. The heat in that sub was the straw that broke the camel
  19. An oil and gas rig off the coast of Louisiana was hit by an explosion and fire this morning, leaving at least two crew members missing and possibly as many as 15, Coast Guard officials said. http://news.yahoo.com/least-2-missing-oil-rig-blast-161731520--abc-news-topstories.html
  20. Since I can't use my pet name for him online, I just use hubby or my husband.
  21. Chrome is my first choice. Have you updated it lately? Mine seems to be working fine. I use it at home and in the office. Both seem fine. Don't like IE and seemed like Firefox was slow.
  22. Happy Birthday Beach Bum!! Enjoy 29.
  23. I can't remember the name of mine and the box is upstairs packed away so I can't look. I got it at Best Buy. It was a replacement for the AT&T 2 wire. Ask them at BB and they can help you.
