They were bored. We were the only passengers in the airport at the time.

Every time I hear about the TSA stopping people I think about you. Of course you're going to get stopped with that hip! You would think by now they would have advanced security measures to be able to tell the difference between a weapon and a hip replacement. Or a knee replacement. Or hardware from surgeries. The last time I went to the Douglas County courthouse, I had to empty my purse when I went through the screening. I had an asthma inhaler in a zipper pocket. My purse and my carry-on was swiped for explosives residue at the airport in Appleton, WI. ME! Do I look like a terror

Christmas just hasn't meant the same to me since 2001. I'll likely never forget sitting in the middle of the living room floor on December 23 squalling like a baby while my husband put up the tree and told me I had to go on. I didn't want to celebrate Christmas. I didn't feel like we had much to celebrate. My heart had been broken and then broken again. Putting one foot in front of the other was difficult enough without having to "celebrate" something. While I'm no longer that depressed, Christmas still doesn't hold the meaning for me that it used to. One thing that DOES help is play

I worked in retail for a year or so. Part of my job was to make sure none of our products were shoplifted. It became really easy to tell who was there just to look to see what we had and maybe make price comparisons and who was there with the intent to steal. An innocent person has no reason to run. A guilty person has every reason.

One does not just "forget" to pay for two Blu Ray disc players and then attempt to assault people who try to stop you. This isn't like the guy tried to walk out without paying for a lemon or onion and shook off someone who asked if he paid for them.

Subby made an excellent point about Nick's name, and Subby's name, being on their work and that means THEIR reputation is on the line. It's often easier said than done to hire someone to take over. ESPECIALLY in the situation that Nick, Subby and my husband were/are in. It's not just your business, it's your baby, your life and your future. Sometimes closing a closely run business IS the smart move. Good luck Nick!!

Yep. It is unfortunate. At least now we have gotten the calls down to a minimum number. Probably no more than 4 a week now. We used to get up to a dozen a day. It is better but it's also been two years!

Yep and nope, in that order. They will get some sort of "retirement" package even if it's more like a severance package or like the family, a settlement that they are never to speak of. Even if charges are filed, not likely they will be found guilty. Reckless conduct at most.
-
Here's how I think it will all play out. The family probably had an attorney before they had a funeral planned. The family probably will have a settlement offer from Walmart before they get the guy buried. The settlement offer will include the usual clauses: the family can't discuss it, it's an undisclosed amount. No charges will be filed but the employees will be dismissed, probably with full retirement benefits. NOTHING will be known for a fact other than in a few months there will be a blurb on the news about the settlement. It will come long after most people have forgotten th

I took my laptop and work last time. Just taking my laptop this time. NO WORK!! Not sure what I'll do with myself, though.

Not sure it would qualify as manslaughter. Had the company employees and the security guard been killed, very possibly the shoplifter could be charged. Not sure they can. Especially if security video shows the shoplifter was the aggressor and they were defending themselves. "petty" crime is a lot like "affordable healthcare" or "comfortable living" or liveable wage". It depends on which side of the issue you're on. In the old west, your mode of transportation was a horse. Having that stolen from you was not "petty". BTW, the security guard was a subcontractor. Dollars to don

I can relate to that. I informed my husband last week that I was planning to be at the beach from mid-January to mid-February. I hope he goes, too.
-
Let's not forget the punishment for stealing a horse back in the old west. Punishments change as the priority of the item stolen changes. Zoo, nobody here is saying the guy at Walmart deserved to die for stealing two Blu-Ray players. But until all the evidence is in for this case, anything anyone says is just speculation. Since Wally World is so big on security cameras, I would imagine the entire incident was captured on at least a dozen cameras from at least six different angles.

Really? A college that produced Thurgood Marshall is viewed as "inferior"? (that would be Lincoln University, BTW). One that produced Booker T Washington is "inferior"? (that would be Hampton University, though he is more closely associated with Tuskegee Institute). One that produced George Washington Carver is "inferior"? (that's Tuskegee, BTW). Let's not forget that the earliest predominantly/historically black colleges were in THE SOUTH. Yep, Alabama was one of those states. If the students who entered those colleges came from "inferior" schools, how did they rise to the succes

We fly by the seat of our pants. Seriously. The last time we planned a vacation more than a week in advance was in 2001 when we had to make sure we had no jobs to do during the week that both our service techs (my husband and his employee) would be gone. We planned a corporate meeting for that week and since it was during the summer, we had to make sure we could get the reservation we wanted. Even at that, it was planned about 3 weeks in advance. Last winter we planned to take a month off and go to Florida. The date we would be leaving hinged on when I finished with all the ye

I think former member needs a history refresher. Let me help her. There has always been Sunday liquor sales, if you knew where to buy it. Heck, I was just a little kid with non-drinking parents and even I knew where you could buy liquor on Sunday. In a dry county. I bet Stradial remembers, too, since we both grew up in the same general area and are close to the same age. Many of the predominantly black colleges were started DURING the War Between the States in the Confederate states. Spelman and Tuskegee were both founded in 1881. Hampton was actually founded shortly after t

As someone who is still battling to get our business listing removed from every free listing source in the entire free world and to get all the phone calls stopped that are offering to sell us everything from toner to accounting services (which gets a huge laugh from me), let me give you some advice. Change your phone number, change your e-mail address and if you used your personal address as your business address, just carry a trash bag with you to the mailbox or move. We closed our business in December 2010 (yeppers, two years ago) and even TODAY I got a call wanting me to correct my fr

My daughter was a member of the class in the class action suit against Walmart that was settled a couple of years ago. She got $7 and change. A FULL TIME JOB should put you in the liveable wage bracket. PERIOD. You should not work full time and still qualify for government benefits. I'm well aware that full time and part time wages do not change. I've done payroll for almost 40 years. What Walmart has done is term employees "part-time" so they can get out of having to provide benefits while scheduling the employee "full-time hours". There are PLENTY of items made in the

When Sam Walton was heading up the business, they seemed to have treated their employees better and bought more American made products than they do now. No problem with them paying entry level pay for entry level work. However, when you've been there a year or more and you're still making entry level pay even though you haven't missed a day and you've worked hard the whole time, something is wrong. You should not work full time and still qualify for government assistance. PERIOD. You should be able to get off assistance if you're working 40, 50 or 60 hours a week every week. And

I love that. Agree 1000%. No, 100000%. If you've never worked at Walmart or had a family member who worked at Walmart, you're likely to believe they care about this country and their employees. They care about their bottom line. PERIOD. Yes, because he is male and a manager. Try being female and working at Walmart.
-
No argument there. I expect everything was caught on camera. I know when I go to Walmart, I see cameras all over the parking lot.
-
That's apparently what they did in this situation. It occurred outside in the parking lot.
-
Just POSSIBLE that the guy died from a heart attack or something. He probably never had a thought of getting caught and when he did, he just couldn't handle it and the physical exertion. Just sayin'

If you're not opposed to taking a little drive out to Rockmart, The Avenue on W Elm St has them. They also have Vera Bradley, in case you're interested. Go 278 toward Rockmart. Turn left across from Coots Lake. Stay on that road until you get to the first traffic light. Turn left, about a mile or so down the road on the right. Same shopping center has Hometown Pizza, Bar L Barbecue and Mac's Bakery. LOVE all three of them! And The Avenue.
