  1. I think I started hearing about that coming in around 15 years ago.
  2. I started a job in Paulding (not my first but my last) in 1995. When I interviewed for the job, I was told that Lowe's was looking to build a place on 278. IOW, I don't give much credence to "Lowe's is wanting to build". That's been the rumor around here for 20 years....or more!
  3. I think it was on 96 Rock. I can't for the life of me remember the DJs who were canned IMMEDIATELY. I'll think of their names. I actually heard them somewhere else a few years later. Edited to say: A Google search says the DJs were Ross and Wilson (though that doesn't sound right to me) and that it was on Z93. That does sound right but I really thought it was 96 Rock.
  4. I lost a high school friend to ALS a few years ago, as well as an aunt. I agree with you. I hope they NEVER get another job in broadcasting.
  5. What about looking for a job during the six months but if you get one make the new employment start after the six months.
  6. Brings back memories of the early 1980s. Those of you who were around here likely will remember the controversy.
  7. Could have been any number of things. Could have had equipment problems, staffing problems or could have been sold out and they told the people in line it was cancelled. Kinda strange to reschedule later show though so that doesn't sound like a sold out show. That leads one to believe equipment problems. Happened once when I was working at a theater. Something happened to the projector and we had to cancel one showing of the movie.
  8. If I were going to change again, I'd go with Walmart Family Mobile plan. $40 a month, unlimited. Now that we have a landline and my cell phone is rarely used, I don't even need as much call time as I have (1500 minutes). But T-Mobile has some good plans on prepaid plans and prepaid phones. If you don't need a smart phone and just want a basic phone, they have a phone for about $20 with pay by the minute or you can get 1500 minutes for $30 a month. That plan does come with some texts and some (very limited) data. But for $10 a month more you can get the unlimited from Family Mobile. A
  9. I agree with PSD. I'd go with option #2. IT jobs are rapidly filled these days so you're likely to have a new position before the six months is up and not need the severance. But you'd have a job for six months, either way. There is also the good possibility of option #3. Since IT jobs are rapidly filled, and for great wages, you would likely have a job before the three months is up. This would be a great option if you would like a little time to regroup or look for a new place to live or anything else. Never a good idea to burn bridges though so really option #2 is the best sol
  10. For the record, I hate Publix. I'm just saying that the majority of the people I have seen at the one in Powder Springs are from Paulding. Then again, the majority of the people I used to see at the Kroger on Brownsville are from Paulding, too. I have yet to figure out where people from Cobb County shop. I don't get why Publix is so popular. I really don't. I agree that their prices are higher than most other places. I don't agree that nobody shops there. All of them I've ever been to are among the busiest stores around, regardless of the competition they have.
  11. I totally agree with you. REFUSE to buy food at Wally World. Target is waaaaaaaaaaay to expensive (makes Publix look like cheap stuff).
  12. Two Walmarts within just 5 miles. 2 1/2 miles to the closest Kroger, 3 miles to the next closest. West Cobb doesn't get a Kroger and a Publix on every corner like Paulding has. And my point is on Saturday the majority of the cars in the Publix parking lot are from Paulding County. I've seen people I know there. People who live a stone's throw from Aldi, Target and Walmart.
  13. You should try the Publix on Richard Sailors Parkway in Powder Springs on a Saturday. You'd KNOW how they stay in business. Must be all those Paulding county people who shop there.
  14. Food Depot does seem to have good prices on their meat. Wish I had one here. We have a "Food Outlet" and a "Pic n Sav" which are apparently similar. I wasn't impressed with the Pic n Sav.
  15. I don't know about the rest of you, but I've found food is expensive no matter where you go. Someone mentioned 3 boneless skinless chicken breasts for $12. Yeah, that's about right. Meat of any kind is expensive right now. I've actually gotten some pretty good deals on steak and seafood lately (of course, we're 30 miles from the Gulf of Mexico). But chicken and pork are outrageous. And don't get me started on produce!
  16. If you think you're getting a good deal, you are. Simple as that. You might be paying more than you could get items elsewhere but it's what YOU think is happening that matters. I happen to think my time is worth more than saving a few cents or even a dollar or so on an item by going to three or four places. My time and gas is valuable. I will pay MORE to keep from going to certain stores, even if they have lower prices on some items. No, sorry, Cranemac and I weren't separated at birth. I am my dad's only child. And my twin died in utero.
  17. See we can agree. I feel the exact same way about WM food.
  18. When we were still there, I rarely shopped anywhere but Kroger. Once in a while I'd stop by Ingles to pick up roasts when they had them on sale. Haven't darkened the doors of Publix in years except for the one close to the beach two or three times over the month we were there. Haven't been to a Publix in Georgia in probably three years. REFUSE to buy food at Walmart. I won't buy food where I can also buy a TV, tires or sporting goods. When I was in the market for new tires, I tried them all--Kauffmann, D&A, Dallas Tire, Vic Williams, Big 10, Discount. Best deal was at Vic Willi
  19. True. It was too close to West Cobb. That is the ONLY Publix I have ever liked. EVER.
  20. Cortisone is THE best stuff for poison ivy. Are you sure you don't have poison ivy systemically? I feel for you. Been there, done that. I had it all over, including my face about 20 years ago.
  21. I got pretty much the same--nothing. Went shopping today, so I have no more money and I'm exhausted. One of the stores was HOT as blue blazes. They had two fans going and I was standing in the check out sweating like the pig that knew it was dinner. I feel really sorry for the employees in there. It is ALWAYS hot in there.
  22. I agree with you totally!! We downsized tremendously in order to move and it's one of the most freeing feelings ever! We kept enough but not too much (OK, not too too much as we do still have things we need to get rid of). We were in a house about 1850 sq ft with a huge sunroom out back and a 25 x 25 building on a 50 x 50 concrete pad and a half acre lot. The building was pretty much full. We had two cars and a truck. And a "junk" room that at times you couldn't walk in. We now live in a house that according to tax records is 1569 sq ft (and that is bigger than it really is). No b
  23. I seem to be the only one in my neighborhood so far. So much for getting to know the neighbors.
