  1. You can thank the federal government for the mandate.
  2. That's true. I think about the cheapest around is 2%.
  3. Seems to me that anyone who considers "thug" to mean urban black male needs to learn the TRUE meaning of the word. To call Trayvon Martin a thug using the true meaning of the word is to call him a common criminal. To use "urban" language it means someone who is going through hard times. Now which one would describe him? IMO, neither unless he truly WAS a common criminal. I guess possession of burglary tools would not make you a common criminal and the kid was only 17 and was not exactly living in poverty so the "hard times" part wouldn't fit him either. Until people understand the me
  4. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about the program in Cobb. It was literally a lifesaver for my youngest daughter. I met some of the staff when my daughter was in the program as well as some of the other patients. If anyone can go there, regardless of county of residence, I would suggest it to the OP. It is a wonderful program and wonderful people.
  5. The non-residential inpatient center is in downtown Austell, not far from Thornton Road and Maxham Road. Unfortunately, I think they only accept Cobb or Douglas County residents through the Cobb/Douglas program. I feel sure Paulding has a similar program. It might be with either Bartow or Polk though. 6. How are these that different than most checking accounts at most banks?
  7. Doesn't surprise me. I've been telling my husband for over a year that I expected Dr. Cabot to retire this year. Guess next month when I come up there I better go by and see him one last time. I've known him for most of my adult life. I think the WORLD of him. He must have just recently made that decision. I talked to the office manager a little over a month ago and requested my records. She didn't mention it and I feel sure she would have if it was known at that time. People who don't go there don't understand that office. It's a solo practice and the three employees have b
  8. Osgood Schlatters. Bet my bottom dollar that's it. Most people, including some doctors, believe only boys can develop this but that's not true, especially in a very active girl. Edited to say she needs to go to a sports med orthopaedist. I recommend Dr. Anthony Cabot. He's in Smyrna but he's one of the best. Please let us know what the doc says.
  9. There's a Save Sun Valley FB page in case you're interested in helping save it.
  10. I know what you mean. I had far more questions than answers. I finally just picked one with the lowest cost.
  11. LR, I think maybe you can only enroll in Part C between October 15 and December 7. I'm NOT sure about that, but seems like that was one reason hubby picked Part D instead of C. He became eligible in September and open enrollment didn't start until later. Have you checked https://mymedicare.gov/
  12. So far, there's me and my next door neighbor. I guess nobody is interested.
  13. Not sure if it would include your husband since the BC/BS includes prescription coverage, but there is a penalty for NOT choosing a drug plan OR a supplement. Be sure to read that. I am not sure where I found that, somewhere in all the hundreds of pages of information I read before choosing the drug plan. The thing is, my husband isn't on any medications on a regular basis (he just likes to keep a prescription of hydrocodone on hand for the times the back pain is really bad). It didn't make sense that we HAD to have choose something or pay a penalty. If I remember correctly, the penalt
  14. Actually, I have. The one on Richard Sailors Parkway in Powder Springs. HATE that store. Feels like a Food Lion. Or worse.
  15. Consider yourself among the fortunate ones. That really is the only way insurance can truly be affordable to anyone. The thing about ours was we had been continuously insured since 1991 and still couldn't find an individual plan that was affordable. Hubby got turned down by three companies because he has spinal stenosis. I had insurance through Humana and then they abruptly dropped me when they got a medical record showing I had been *ADVISED* to donate blood to keep my iron in check. Turned out, I had later been told by that same doctor NOT to donate because my iron was too low. Th
  16. You haven't priced individual health insurance lately, have you? That's about right if you want a plan that doesn't have a huge deductible. And some that do! I got a quote from one of the companies (can't remember which one but it was either BC/BS or Kaiser) and for me and my hubby it was going to be almost $1500 a month for one with anything under a $5000 deductible and ANY prescription coverage. I am very thankful to have found one that offers me truly affordable coverage. But I agree, that's just plain nuts.
  17. The first time it was around $500 or so a month and the second time it was $570 or so . Like I said, a lot cheaper than getting individual coverage. You have to remember the first time was in 2000 and the second time was in 2010 (I think). If both my husband and I had individual policies like my individual policy, we would pay $866 a month. Here, in Florida. In Georgia, we would be paying $1066 a month. As it is, with his Medicare, we're only paying $533 or so a month for the two policies. Mine alone is $433 of that. And yes, that is a pre-existing condition plan.
  18. After MONTHS of comparison, my husband and I picked Humana Walmart prescription plan for him. It's $18.50 a month and it has pretty much the same coverage and co-pays (and deductible) as the other plans. Did you do the little tool to help decide which plan, based on the prescriptions he is currently on? The copays can be a little different depending on the plan. The best I understand the plans, any of them, you have to meet the deductible before it pays anything on a prescription and then you have a co-pay. Until you reach the donut hole and then, well, I'm not sure what happens afte
  19. We have had it twice. Once it was a good deal more than our insurance was already but it was still affordable. We were already paying for my coverage so we just had to pay for his and the service fee. But it wasn't that bad really. Like I said, still affordable. The other time it was EXACTLY what we had been paying. Not one penny different. That time the employer did not go through a third-party administrator. And both times it was cheaper than individual coverage.
  20. For obvious reasons there are times when this would be neither smart nor safe. You're never required to stay anywhere in particular until the divorce is final. I have the impression, having read a lot of BLs posts through the years, that not only is her husband somewhat abusive, that perhaps the home is in his name (or they rent). I also have the impression they don't have children, so theirs should be a quick divorce. I have a friend who just last week obtained a divorce. No children involved. She filed in March (I think) and the divorce was final last week. There was no prop
  21. That makes two of us, Feelip. Planning on turning mine over to a management company this time. Learned my lesson before.
